I did a new blog on Dragon Con last night stating that as of today, we are three weeks out from the convention.  I also gave an update what I have been doing.  I also created a convention playlist all about my blogs.

Please be sure to check these out

1.My latest Vlog

http://youtu.be/ltTfrBMKpug

2. My Convention playlist.  I have some stuff from last year's show
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjRiXCMqkcTPy-mVacTXAmbV65iiIG_lW

I am still looking for people to interview for the show.

What would you like to see me cover this year without bother the major panelists?

Ahoy all!

In past years, I've appeared at DragonCon in my role as senior editor of Weird Tales, the world's oldest fantasy/horror/sci-fi magazine. This year, I'm the editor and coauthor of a new book that I'm showcasing at the con: GEEK WISDOM: The Sacred Teachings of Nerd Culture.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy-themed inspirational book, featuring 200 one-page philosophical musings based on the most beloved quotations from geeky films, books, tv shows, comics, etc. ("You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." "So say we all." "Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?" "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." "Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.") There are quotations and references from all our favorite things: Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Marvel and DC Comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, The Powerpuff Girls, ThinkGeek t-shirts...

I'm incredibly proud to have been able to compile this testament to 21st-century nerdity. Several brilliant coauthors helped me create it, including Hugo- and Nebula-nominated novelist N.K. Jemisin ("The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms,") steampunk novelist and blogger Genevieve Valentine ("Mechanique"), movie critic and political commentator Zaki Hasan (The Huffington Post), and indie comics writer and journalist Eric San Juan ("A Year of Hitchcock").

I'll be doing a reading from GEEK WISDOM (with door prizes!) on Sunday at 1pm, in the Hyatt's Edgewood room. Would love to see you all there!

Hi all!  For those who aren't on our Yahoo group or Facebook group (yes we have both, come visit!) I wanted to send out some updates.

American SF Media has a ton of stuff for you all this year!  Our website has been updated with the schedule, and there's also a google version and an ical version for those that want to have it ready at hand!

Just check it out at www.scifitvtrack.com/

I do still need a few panelists too!  I am looking for folks willing to talk about V, Web Series, Smallville, the BSG Universe, Sanctuary, and someone who's read all of the GRRM  - Game of Thrones series, and seen the series (in other words, very familiar with the World as a whole).  Just drop me an email with some idea of who you are and why you are comfortable talking about this stuff.   You can reach me at amscifi@dragoncon.org

My friends are planning to cosplay Richard and MordSith!Kahlan from Legend of the Seeker (for Dragon*Con), as shown in the picture I have included below the cut.  They are looking for help with the collar and chain.  Anyone here have any ideas?  Thanks!

I wasn't aware of George R. R. Martin's "A Game of Thrones" until the HBO series, titled "Game of Thrones," started airing a couple of months ago. It's outstanding and has completely reactivated my medieval fantasy genes.

I haven't seen anything specific to GoT planned yet for DC. Does anyone else have information on planned activities/resources/guests/etc from it?

Hi all,

Looking for some feedback from everyone on fan panels for the track.     American SF Media covers a lot of current American Television, excepting all things Gothic/Vampire and Paranormal/Government.  We also cover current movies as well.

Please put your input on our survey! www.surveymonkey.com/s/HLCPPLM

Thanks!

No BSG Fleet Party this year?  I can't find it on the panel schedules.
[identity profile] goblinmoon.livejournal.com
We all know from everyone else here that this ain't the end of the changes, but here is the first out in public version of the schedule for American SF Media.

We're still covering a lot of your favorite shows, but more movie coverage this year!   We'll be needing panelists too!  Take a look a the website for more info.  www.scifitvtrack.com

This will be my sixth time at Dragon*Con, but now I have a special guest: my non-geek girlfriend. To be fair, she has some geek sympathies/tendencies. She's into Lost and LOTR, and has a pop-culture level of recognition of many things (ie, she could identify Spock, the Joker, or Darth Vader).

I'm planning to spend most of Friday just taking her around the con sight-seeing (I was gonna do it in plainclothes to stay under the radar, but she insisted I wear my Dharma jumpsuit), and we're planning to spend most of the rest of the weekend together, but we don't want to be stuck to each other 24/7. She's also usually not good around groups of people, but Dragon*Con will hopefully transcend "I am nervous around a lot of people" and become "wow, look at all these crazy people" :) And, worst-case scenario, she chills in our room in the Hilton a lot.

With all this in mind, does anyone have recommendations for how I can make this con as fun as possible for her?

Start the clock! Dragon*Con's 2009 BATTLESTAR GALACTICA PARTY, hosted by The Colonial Fleet and American Sci-Fi Media, is almost here and we want you to come join the frakkin' celebration! We're looking to give the show a proper farewell and raise some money for charity, so don't miss out! We are featuring props & items that will benefit the Georgia Chapter of the American Alzheimer’s Association. BSG costumes are highly encouraged - wear your colonial best and come celebrate the weekend with your favorite frakkers! Humans and Cylons welcomed!

The Colonial Fleet is a unique family of "Battlestar Galactica" fans that fondly considers Dragon*Con its home away from home. Come join us on SATURDAY NIGHT at the SHERATON ATLANTA GRAND BALLROOM. Skids up at 2200 HOURS (10 PM)! Only requirement for entry is your Dragon*Con badge.

Still looking for readers! I have access to a copy of Borders of Infinity in Russian, so if there are any Russian speakers who'd like to help out, please let me know!
[identity profile] joyeuse13.livejournal.com
Last call for readers for the Bujold "Lost in Translation" Panel!

The plan is to read from Borders of Infinity, since that was the one I had the easiest time getting hold of in French and Spanish. I'm still rounding it up in German (and if anyone has a copy, or can scan a few pages and email it to me, that would be grand!).

So far we have:

Me reading for French (and English, I guess) :)
[livejournal.com profile] akiko for German
and [livejournal.com profile] fledgist for Spanish

If anyone else wants to participate in other languages, that would be fantastic, although at this point, you'd have to be responsible for rounding up your own translated copies. This turned out to be harder than I thought!

Updated Community List....LJ, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, and other websites )

Needless to say this will be a work in progress all the way to just before the con so keep additions, changes, and deletions coming.

NOTE: Please only give currently active communities and sites. With all the live ones to keep up with, dont have the room for inactive ones whatever the reason may be. Also, please submit in lj comm/URL format as well. I wont be able to keep up the list if I have to go chase down the links or click link properties to get the info.

Thanks everyone.
