Hi everyone:

I am happy to announce that I will be doing a series of videos at Dragon Con this year for my new video blog,  "Hello World with Miyah Sundermeyer."  Also be sure to check out my first videos premiering this week as I talk about Dragon Con.

If you have an interesting costume or just plain wish to chat,  be sure to look for a girl dressed as Twilight Sparkle with the camera man.

If you want to be a part of the Pinkie Pie Flash mob between the Sheraton and the Hilton,  that is where you will be sure to put your lovely face on camera.

Note that the Pinkie Pie Party will be on Friday August 30th at 5:00 PM in the Marriott on the 10th floor or so planned.  Please stay tuned...

Just wondering how many folks who are gamers would be interested in something like a flea market/swap meet for gaming stuff at Dragon Con? Nothing to compete with the dealers. Do it after dealer's hours on Friday night and/or Saturday night for 2-4 hours. Most gamers I know, myself included have loads of old gaming stuff that other folks might be interested in. And loads of other gaming conventions have these. I normally take the money I make from my sales and spend it with the dealers, and so do most of the others I know who do it. What would it take to have something like this in the gaming area at Dragon Con? You could charge a slight fee for tables, which would bring in more money for the Con and  gaming. Have it set up for gaming stuff only....not just general sci-fi/fantasy stuff which would be available in the dealer's room I can't be the only one who attends DC that thinks this would be a cool thing.
Who do I need to talk to about setting something like this up? How do I go about contacting them? And is anyone else interested in something like this?
Thanks!

Anyone have a link to this year's gaming guide book yet?

I bought tickets to three gaming sessions this year. Unfortunately, two of the sessions I have signed up for happen during Carrie Fisher's panels. I have decided to forgo the session I am least looking forward to playing in order to see one of CF's panels. My questions are:

Since I have already paid for the ticket can I claim it with my other tickets and give it to someone else to play the session in my stead or are gaming tickets non-transferable.

Any info ya'll can share on this topic would be helpful.

Does anyone  know who the panelist was for the Dungeon Design 101 panel on Sunday?  He was great but I came in late and missed his name.

Thanks!

Now that the schedule grids are out, it's time to see if we can actually nail down a time for the great Dragon Quest IX map-exchanging meet-up! Let's do this thing.

Rambling details under the cut. )
[identity profile] itemri.livejournal.com
The Cosplay.com thread has confirmed that due to crowding concerns, the Saturday 2:00 TF2 meet-up has been moved from the Sailboat Bar to the 10th floor Marriott.

SATURDAY, 2:00, 10TH FLOOR MARRIOTT.

Mighty Boosh meet-up is Friday, Sept 3rd, 5pm on the Marriott Ballroom Level photography area. We will (hopefully) be traveling from this location at 6pm, to GSU- who is hosting a Mighty Boosh documentary "Journey of the Childmen" at 7pm.  Here is a link to the Brittrack LJ post with more info:

Local Atlanta LARP Forest of Doors returns to Dragon*Con again this year with not one, but two unique demo games!

A multi-genre live action roleplaying game, Forest of Doors has been running one, two and three-day events in the Atlanta area since 2006. This year marks the fifth time Forest of Doors will be bringing its particular brand of interactive gaming to Dragon*Con, and we are running two demo games set in the Forest of Doors game world. Each game will take place in a specific setting, independent of the other, and players may participate in one or both games during the convention.

Players may create characters from one of eight different homeworlds: everything from the Dickensian, steampunk realm of Goblin City, to the fantasy 1001 Arabian Nights world of the Desert of Brass, to the whimsical fairies of the Enchanted Glade--and many more!

Please visit the Forest of Doors booth in the gaming concourse area to register for either game, or for more information.

The Goblin Market

Date and Time: Saturday, September 4th at 7:00 PM
Cost: $5

The Goblin Warrens, a bustling settlement founded by expatriates from the subterranean steampunk realm of Goblin City, is holding its High Market Day. Part festival, part trade show, and dedicated to commerce and the emergence of new technology, High Market Day is the high point of the year for many Goblins. Players are guests from other worlds or settlements, who have been invited to share in the festivities and present new discoveries of their own. The Warrens can be a dangerous place however, and political scheming, gang warfare and industrial espionage lurk around every corner. Even the most innocent visitor might be caught up in the struggle.

The Gallery of Forgotten Delights

Date and Time: Sunday, September 5th at 7:00 PM
Cost: $5

The civilization of Oun once flourished in the Forest of Doors, producing untold wonders of technomagical ingenuity. Ten thousand years after its demise, the Merchant Prince, a survivor of this once great people, has invited the residents of the Forest of Doors to meet in the ruins of an Ounish gallery to celebrate the cultural achievements of his now-extinct nation. This is the Merchant Prince's first fete in nearly three years, and it promises to be a spectacle of remarkable delights.

Hey all, I registered for the Catan tourney coming up at D*C, and was curious if there are others on the Comm who are going to participate as well?  I'm familiar with the game through playing it with friends, and most recently the ipod app, and am wondering what to expect for the tournament.  Are there standard rules to be aware of?  Any tips or ideas on how these tourneys might differ from just playing with friends?

Just wondering if anyone on here plays Malifaux and would be willing to do a demo. I've been really interested in the game for a while, but no one plays it in my area so I'd love to play a round or two to make sure I understand the rules.

Given the number of gamers at D*C, it's probably safe to assume that at least some of you own the recent Nintendo DS game Dragon Quest IX. One of the features of DQ9 which works much better in Tokyo than in America is the ability to trade special dungeon maps by walking around with the game in "tag mode" and simply being near other players. This is largely a lost cause around here, given our lower population density and the fact that Dragon Quest isn't one of the most popular franchises in the country like it is in Japan.

However, a huge gathering of geeks like D*C provides much better odds. I certainly plan on wandering around the con with my DS in tag mode in my pocket, but I'm wondering if anyone wants to do anything more organized. If there are already any plans for a DQ9 meet-up, I'd love to know about it, and if not then maybe we should start one. Granted it's a bit difficult to plan specifics in advance of the schedule coming out, but it'd at least be good to gauge interest.

I'd particularly love to get my hands on the Masayuki map and the Kawasaki Locker map, which have been passed around the world from Japan and have some fantastic monsters and loot inside, but which I've yet to encounter here in the southeast.

Hi Guys!!

I am very new to posting here on LiveJournal so forgive me if I come across a little boorish :)

I am the director of boardgaming at DragonCon. We sit down in the basement of the Hilton with our strange games.  I just wanted to let everyone know a couple of things:
  1. Once again Dragon Con is offering an all weekend boardgaming pass for $5.  This pass will allow you to check out games from the Dragon Con Library and play with your friends or you can get in on a game and make new friends.  Boardgames is open starting at 9 AM on Friday and we don't close until Noon on Monday.
  2. DragonCon is also pleased to be hosting a North American Catan Championship Qualifier this year.  The winner of this qualifier gets a trip to GenCon Indy in 2011
In addition there are other tournaments being run by Dragon Con that can be found at http://gaming.dragoncon.org

Once again I missed the beginning of Gaming Pre-Registration.  It apparently opened while I was on vacation and a bit out of touch, and I've already missed out on a few events or times that I wanted to participate in.

My question; Is there any notification mechanism in place for the opening of Gaming Pre-Reg? It would be awesome to have an email blast, twitter notification, or even a note on the main DragonCon page.

I'm thinking of participating in the Cheese Grinder event this year, but I was hoping some CG veterans from previous years could answer a few questions before I make a decision. Actually just two, with the possibility for a few more depending on the answers: First, about how much of the con can I expect the Grinder to take up if I do join? Second - sort of related to the first - what kind of time block is the event run in?
