I have a question about the costume contest. It says on the track website that registration forms will be available at the Rebel Legion table, but I see that the form also on the website. Do I have to do anything at the Legion table? Or can I just show up at one of the prejudging sessions with a completed form?

Also, do I have to be at at the prejudging exactly at the start time, or can I drop in any time during the block?

If anyone knows about this, I'd be grateful for the help!

I just completed sending the parade section assignment/information emails. I got a few bounces so I'm posting here to get the word out.

If you signed up the parade in the the yahoo group database and did not receive tonight's email, let me know.

If you signed up via email, got a reply from my dc_parade (at) dragoncon.org account but did not receive tonight's email, let me know.

Lots of useful parade information in the email that we definitely want to get to you before con! :)

Thanks!

Hey everyone. This is the first year that my friends and I will be staying on site for the convention instead of commuting from my sister's house in Roswell. I know that the hotels we're in charge for their wireless access, but I was wondering if there were some hot spot alternatives around the con?

I saw the post about Boingo from the 15th of July, but I am not trying to sign up for a service. (Though if it's a cheaper option...it might be worth it)

Some of us have smart phones and date plans so that won't be an issue, however I was hoping that some site-vets might know of some good places to snag some quick wifi access during a quiet hour or two.

Any suggestions or alternatives to paying 20+ dollars for 10 minutes of email checking are appreciated.

Hello! My friends are I are doing a group costume involving hipster versions of known characters. We want to all have PBR cans as props. Obviously, people are buying drinks and walking around with them all the time, but those are usually in nondescript cups, and also inside. Just so we don't run afoul of open container laws or anything, does anyone know if there'd be a problem with us having PBR cans (either unopened or opened-but-empty) on our person inside and just outside the hotels?

I put together a list of possibly helpful places from what I know and Google. I welcome any suggestions others have to change this list. Also, keep in mind that most Atlanta stores are smaller and often have reduced stock. If you're going to get something for a costume, especially if you're unsure if it might be carried at a smaller place, I highly recommend taking a couple minutes to call the store.

The Robert Heinlein Blood Drive at dragon Con last year collected 7200 Units of
blood product from 2900 donors. We hope to increase that this year. WE NEED
YOUR HELP. We need about eight people this year to each donate 4-5 hours to
give out the Heinlein Blood donor ribbons and the t-shirts. e-mail me at

Hey guys, so, I finished reading Homestuck literally a week ago, and while there's not really time for me to put together a costume of any of the trolls or kids, I think I might have the supplies to make a quick Snowman closet cosplay.

Is there anyone else planning to do Homestuck costumes? I would love to get together and bounce and squee and otherwise have a good time of things.

Also (such to not spam the comm with posts), last year I did Daria and stumbled into a photoshoot rather by accident. I'd love for this to happen again, is there anyone planning to go as any character from the show Daria? I figure the best answer is to just all go get pizza some afternoon, and host a low-key photoshoot there.

Thanks!

Ahoy all!

In past years, I've appeared at DragonCon in my role as senior editor of Weird Tales, the world's oldest fantasy/horror/sci-fi magazine. This year, I'm the editor and coauthor of a new book that I'm showcasing at the con: GEEK WISDOM: The Sacred Teachings of Nerd Culture.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy-themed inspirational book, featuring 200 one-page philosophical musings based on the most beloved quotations from geeky films, books, tv shows, comics, etc. ("You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." "So say we all." "Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?" "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." "Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.") There are quotations and references from all our favorite things: Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Marvel and DC Comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, The Powerpuff Girls, ThinkGeek t-shirts...

I'm incredibly proud to have been able to compile this testament to 21st-century nerdity. Several brilliant coauthors helped me create it, including Hugo- and Nebula-nominated novelist N.K. Jemisin ("The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms,") steampunk novelist and blogger Genevieve Valentine ("Mechanique"), movie critic and political commentator Zaki Hasan (The Huffington Post), and indie comics writer and journalist Eric San Juan ("A Year of Hitchcock").

I'll be doing a reading from GEEK WISDOM (with door prizes!) on Sunday at 1pm, in the Hyatt's Edgewood room. Would love to see you all there!

It's now two people who've bailed out of the ride. If I can't find some honorable person who'd be willing to take me from Orlando (Thursday the 1st) and bring be back (Monday the 5th), in exchange for shared gas money and perhaps a meal thrown in, I'll have to go by Greyhound. And I'd rather you guys get the money than them.

If none of you can do this, I'll be resigned to getting a Greyhound ticket Tuesday. It'll cost more, and be more uncomfortable, but I need to get there. If you think you might be able to take me, one large suitcase and one smaller bag, please send an IM to me. Thanks!
