Hi everyone:
I will be at Dragon Con this year as a regular guest working on my blogs by shooting interviews of regular attendees and of main events.   I am an amateur and I just started doing my blog work last year at Dragon con and I had loads and loads of fun.

What I would like to do is to show you some links of the stuff that I am working on.  If you would like to meet up at the convention to do some blog work with me, please be sure to send me a PM and we will meet.

I want to know how many of you are going to D*C and how many of you are cosplaying this year and what you’re going as. You don’t have to reply to this, you can send me a private message or even an e-mail to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com.
Objective:

Part A: For the ladies:
I’ve been to Dragon*Con the last few years, this will be my.. 4th year I think. May be 3rd. I don’t remember. ANYWAY! I love taking pictures of cosplayers, but there’s always so many, I miss a lot. Especially when I do panels, but I don’t know if I want to do any this year, unless something really catches my attention.

However, this year, I want to shift my focus from taking pictures of just really great costumes, to having an actual theme and I want it to be Female Cosplayers of Dragon*Con. I’m sick of all of us getting shit for being female and dressing up as amazing characters and being grilled over and over again about how much we know about said character and being forced to prove ourselves over and over again because of our love.

Being a fan of video games or comics/graphic novels/manga, anime etc. does not mean we have to know every little detail of every little universe. Unfortunately, there are many who dont’ agree with this.

I'm looking for a multitude of costumes and fandoms, but I really want to aim for video game/comic book cosplays. This is the one area, where as a female, we are given the most attitude.

Even if you're not cosplaying as a comic or video game character and you want to be involved, please, get in touch with me. I will not reject anybody! (kids are also welcome)

Which brings me to

Part B of the Objective: For the guys

I would also like to find some guys who will be attending DC13 who don’t give a shit if a female knows every single detail of a character, game, comic, movie etc. etc. but loves the fact that they (the females) are willing to show their love for something, regardless of the ridicule and crap dealt out by those that are too insecure with themselves to open to the idea that females can be gamers - whether table top, card, RPG, first person, or comic nerds.

If anyone is willing to help out with this, please send an email to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com for more details or any questions you might have. I’m still planning this out, but there’s quite a few things I would like to do with this project.

Just a quick note: I've been getting a lot of responses for this project (yay!), so I have to ask if you want to be a part of this, please don't just post in a comment to someone else. I might miss it, and I don't want to do that.

Also, if you've noticed I haven't checked in with someone yet, please keep chatter to a minimum. Once I've checked in with a person, chat to your hearts content. I just want to make sure everyone who says they want to be a part of this, gets checked in.

Ahoy all!

In past years, I've appeared at DragonCon in my role as senior editor of Weird Tales, the world's oldest fantasy/horror/sci-fi magazine. This year, I'm the editor and coauthor of a new book that I'm showcasing at the con: GEEK WISDOM: The Sacred Teachings of Nerd Culture.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy-themed inspirational book, featuring 200 one-page philosophical musings based on the most beloved quotations from geeky films, books, tv shows, comics, etc. ("You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." "So say we all." "Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?" "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." "Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.") There are quotations and references from all our favorite things: Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Marvel and DC Comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, The Powerpuff Girls, ThinkGeek t-shirts...

I'm incredibly proud to have been able to compile this testament to 21st-century nerdity. Several brilliant coauthors helped me create it, including Hugo- and Nebula-nominated novelist N.K. Jemisin ("The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms,") steampunk novelist and blogger Genevieve Valentine ("Mechanique"), movie critic and political commentator Zaki Hasan (The Huffington Post), and indie comics writer and journalist Eric San Juan ("A Year of Hitchcock").

I'll be doing a reading from GEEK WISDOM (with door prizes!) on Sunday at 1pm, in the Hyatt's Edgewood room. Would love to see you all there!

I have a question about the costume contest. It says on the track website that registration forms will be available at the Rebel Legion table, but I see that the form also on the website. Do I have to do anything at the Legion table? Or can I just show up at one of the prejudging sessions with a completed form?

Also, do I have to be at at the prejudging exactly at the start time, or can I drop in any time during the block?

If anyone knows about this, I'd be grateful for the help!

Hi guys,

I was checking the Star Wars @ DC website (http://www.swatdc.com/) and it says Carrie Fisher will have two panels on Fri/Sun at 10am.

And it got me to thinking-- how early can someone show up for the panel to get a good seat?

If the panel time was earlier-- say 8am-- how early could one show up? And if hers is at ten, are there panels before her or can I show up at like 8am to get a good seat?

My other question is about the Lightsaber training listed on the site. It says it's for kids but what if you're a grown up Padawan (lol)?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all! After some doing, and getting together some free time to actually post the damn playlist - I finally got up the Star Wars Adult Themes Panel at Dragon*Con 2010 on Youtube! It's a hilarious show that has props, giveaways and of course - adult themes. Of course, because of that - keep in mind there is very mature subject matter being discussed and coarse language - so if you're easily offended...you might want to stop here.
Star Wars Adult Themes Panel at Dragon*Con 2010

ALso if you liked that - the panel inspired me (Shaun) to start doing my own podcast: Shauncastic! which deals with all things geeky. It's a weekly wednesday podcast that you can enjoy here: www.shauncastic.com. Have fun!

I don't watch the Today Show, but someone passed this on to me... OMG, Ewoks run amok! Moonwalking! Martinis! Al Roker as Han Solo! WTF? The deviled eggs into spiders tip is pretty funny too.

I thoroughly enjoyed this years D*C* and while I wish I could have been everywhere at once I couldn't.

I noticed a few posts about the Alderaan dance party and I was wondering if anyone had some photos or videos of the event. The previous posts didn't have anything in the comments, but maybe that's because they were looking for more specific stuff. I just wanna see how much fun I missed out on. :)

I am fairly new to this community and I hope I can meet up with some of you guys next year!

Thanks so much!!!!

LOVE!!!

I was wondering if anyone out there in Dragoncon Livejournal land attended the Star Wars Alderaan Party that took pictures or video of the Gold Mandalorian [livejournal.com profile] theaterman007  and the lovely tall blond [profile] wicked_swanndancing  at the party? I saw a lot of flashes and after the party I met someone in the Hyatt that told me they had videoed the whole thing.I didn't take many pictures so I would like some ,if possible. Thanks

I met a nice guy at the Alderaan dance on Saturday night. He was a good swing dancer too. We talked about a lot, but somehow forgot to exchange information. If he happens to see this, I would like to contact him. Since I was dressed in red boots and a long red, white, and blue cape, he should remember.

Now, who wants to refer us a panelist or 12 and/or be on one? Please e-mail broatsey@gmail.com and/or swatdc@dragoncon.org if you know anyone :)
