I want to know how many of you are going to D*C and how many of you are cosplaying this year and what you’re going as. You don’t have to reply to this, you can send me a private message or even an e-mail to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com.
Objective:

Part A: For the ladies:
I’ve been to Dragon*Con the last few years, this will be my.. 4th year I think. May be 3rd. I don’t remember. ANYWAY! I love taking pictures of cosplayers, but there’s always so many, I miss a lot. Especially when I do panels, but I don’t know if I want to do any this year, unless something really catches my attention.

However, this year, I want to shift my focus from taking pictures of just really great costumes, to having an actual theme and I want it to be Female Cosplayers of Dragon*Con. I’m sick of all of us getting shit for being female and dressing up as amazing characters and being grilled over and over again about how much we know about said character and being forced to prove ourselves over and over again because of our love.

Being a fan of video games or comics/graphic novels/manga, anime etc. does not mean we have to know every little detail of every little universe. Unfortunately, there are many who dont’ agree with this.

I'm looking for a multitude of costumes and fandoms, but I really want to aim for video game/comic book cosplays. This is the one area, where as a female, we are given the most attitude.

Even if you're not cosplaying as a comic or video game character and you want to be involved, please, get in touch with me. I will not reject anybody! (kids are also welcome)

Which brings me to

Part B of the Objective: For the guys

I would also like to find some guys who will be attending DC13 who don’t give a shit if a female knows every single detail of a character, game, comic, movie etc. etc. but loves the fact that they (the females) are willing to show their love for something, regardless of the ridicule and crap dealt out by those that are too insecure with themselves to open to the idea that females can be gamers - whether table top, card, RPG, first person, or comic nerds.

If anyone is willing to help out with this, please send an email to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com for more details or any questions you might have. I’m still planning this out, but there’s quite a few things I would like to do with this project.

Just a quick note: I've been getting a lot of responses for this project (yay!), so I have to ask if you want to be a part of this, please don't just post in a comment to someone else. I might miss it, and I don't want to do that.

Also, if you've noticed I haven't checked in with someone yet, please keep chatter to a minimum. Once I've checked in with a person, chat to your hearts content. I just want to make sure everyone who says they want to be a part of this, gets checked in.

Did anyone who got a picture on the green screen think to ask how long it would be before the pictures were emailed out? I know I sure didn't. :)

Ok geeks, last night I accidently put my wifes 15 years of Stargate T-shirt in the dryer.. it is now ruined....  The shirt was purchased at Dragon Con 2 years ago from the Stargate panel people as part of a charity auction.
I don't  know how or if or maybe.. somebody knows something or a dealer/contact etc.. but I need to try to make this right.  If you can help, please message me..

Thanks

David Hewlitt just tweeted that he's not going to be able to make DragonCon!!

Here's his tweet:

dhewlett I am SO sorry to say that thanks to last minute screw-ups (on my end) I've had to bow out of Dragon*Con. I really can't apologize enough!

That sucks, I was really looking forward to meeting him.

No BSG Fleet Party this year?  I can't find it on the panel schedules.

This is my first Dragon*con, so I'm not sure if something like this is already in the works somewhere, but would anyone be interested in doing a Stargate Atlantis or a general Stargate meet-up?

I just finished my first cosplay costume, a Rodney McKay uniform, and I'd love to get some photos with other SG folks! And if something like this has already been organized (and it very well may have been considering that there is a whole Stargate track at the con) any information on that would be greatly appreciated.

The Stargate Multiverse Track is looking to display new and interesting Fanworks in the track room this year. There were a number of awesome things in the Museum last year, but we want to bring in even more, to show how creative Stargate fans can be.

Do you make crafty Stargate-themed items like jewelry or dolls? Use your mad skills to create replicas of props from the multiverse? Make other multimedia fanworks like filk or vids? We're interested in it all!

If you or someone you know makes something cool and Stargate-themed that you want to show off at con this year, drop Melayne an e-mail at melayne[at]sgmultiverse[dot]org.

Just wanted to let any and all interested parties know -- the SGMT 2010 Panel Application is now LIVE!

A few pointers:

1) If you've already discussed leading/helping with an SGMT panel on any forum space, you still need to complete the official application.

2) If you've already organized a potential panel group, only ONE application needs to be submitted via lead contact.

3) Please attempt to self-designate which of our "majors" you feel your panel would fit best, based on focus topic. Our majors for 2010 are: science and technology, literature and philosophy, and social sciences. It IS possible that your panel may become "cross-listed" between two majors before all is said and done, and some panels will be lumped into our "elective pool," since they may be one-shots that don't seem to fit our majors.

4) The more information we have about the panel's tentative format (expert panel, roundtable discussions, moderated Q & A, etc.) and topic, the better! Most of the time, the manner in which a panel is run is MORE important than the content delivered -- meaning that a well-organized panel that stays on track is superior to a track full of information that spans too broad a scope.

5) Panel application deadline is tentatively April 30, 2010. Selected panelists will be informed via e-mail by May 31, 2010.

Best wishes to all applicants -- we look forward to seeing a wide variety of ideas!

We've been busy beavers here at the SGMT office today, and not only is your Panel Application up and running, but the 2010 SGMT Volunteer Application is up and ready as well!

No, we won't turn anyone away. It's only an application in that it's a form you fill out for us, but "Volunteer Form" doesn't sound as friendly... it's more utilitarian, and we're not. 8)

So, even if you've volunteered with us before, PLEASE go over to the new Volunteer Application and fill it out for us!!

All information is collected strictly for our own use, will not be sold or given to any other person or business, and the mailing address is collected so we can send you nifty stuff like demo swag throughout the year. Or maybe a present now and again. Or a blackmail picture we got of you last year in the shower with the jello in the tub. ~look~

But yes, only I, the Volunteer Coordinator, and the Department Head for whatever department you want to volunteer with will see your information, so please please please fill it out completely.

Feel free to check any number of Department boxes, though if you check more than about 4, you might as well just check "General Volunteer" and be done with it.

Cannot WAIT to see you all again!!!!
