I did a new blog on Dragon Con last night stating that as of today, we are three weeks out from the convention.  I also gave an update what I have been doing.  I also created a convention playlist all about my blogs.

Please be sure to check these out

1.My latest Vlog

http://youtu.be/ltTfrBMKpug

2. My Convention playlist.  I have some stuff from last year's show
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjRiXCMqkcTPy-mVacTXAmbV65iiIG_lW

I am still looking for people to interview for the show.

What would you like to see me cover this year without bother the major panelists?

I had a newbie ask me this year where the name Dragon*Con comes from and I couldn't for the life of me find the answer to that question anywhere. Does anyone know the story of how we got that name?

Thanks.

List your packing list here so we can all get tips!

Hi All! Since we're getting into countdown time, I just wanted to promote the Dragon*Con Wiki and solicit contributions for it's entries. Sections that are especially in need of expansion are the pages on the individual hotels, regarding amenities and any tips people have for staying in them (photos of *empty* rooms especially would be nice, if anyone has some.) Especially the overflow hotels page (official or unofficial) And don't forget the epic packing list, which was how the wiki got started in the first place.

Here's a list of pages tagged with needs work if anyone is feeling bored and wishes to throw in $.02

Just two things -- 1) Please don't copy-paste from other websites, as it's uncool to plagiarize -- if you find a good website, link to it, don't copy 2) Please keep the information serious, and safe-for-work. A bit of tongue-in-cheek is okay, but people may be looking for info, not social commentary. Thanks!

We all know of people who aren't the best at being social or playing well with others. So post your "con etiquette" list here, or your favorite.

Dragoncon is coming up in 45 days, and this community is about to get super busy, as many of you know. In order to minimize the traffic, I have a couple of suggestions, if I may... even though I'm aware it very well may likely fall upon deaf ears.

1. Before you ask your question, PLEASE check the Dragoncon wiki or the many sites that give Dragoncon tips on Google.

2. If you make a post (or have made a post in the past, you can go back and edit your post with one of the Community tags
*How to Tag a Post

3. You can also search the community page, using the search box there, or the list of tags, to find if your question has been asked.

this will undoubtedly help keep the community down to RELEVANT posts, and keep members from being irritated when the same questions asked over and over and over and over and over.. again. Any if you guys have any other suggestions to help keep things flowing smoothly around here, by all means, add you suggestion :)

Know of any good restaurants in the neighborhood around the con? Have any advice that you'd want to give first-timers? Want to pimp your programming track or costuming group?

Come contribute to the Dragon*Con Wiki:

http://dragon-con.pbwiki.com/

It started last year as a result of a few posts on packing lists, but has been gradually added to. A full list of all the pages on the Wiki that have been created so far is here, as most of the pages aren't linked yet.

And yes, I'm sorry -- it looks as though PBwiki changed their rules so that you actually have to have a PBwiki account to edit things now, not just log-in with the invite key. Sorry about that.

Make a pledge for how many hats you think our Secretary, Claudia, can make during Dragon*Con. The number she makes will determine the amount you owe.

Claudia will only be knitting during the booth hours
Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10am-7pm
Monday 10am -5pm

Visit Her Jayne Site
to watch her progress.

To Pledge, please email claudia@austinbrowncoats.com.

Remember, your pledge supports Austin Browncoats and our charities!

so, what are the things that people tend to forget to pack for a con? :D any suggestions?

Dragoncon Wiki!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] greenwitch for putting together the wiki. Per [livejournal.com profile] dementia's request, replaced her con guide with the wiki at top of the page and added to the profile page.

Anyone is welcome to edit the pages and add anything they would like (including new pages, adding links to your own photo galleries, other "guides to dragon*con", costuming groups, group events and parties, photoshoots, etc... just keep it within reason, please) The FAQ is a bit cluttered because a lot was copy-pasted from several sources.

You *do* have to log in to edit pages -- either log in using your name, e-mail, and the invite key (which is dragoncon), or create a PBwiki account (you don't actually have to create an account to edit pages.)

As per some comments on the Packing List post from a few days ago, I went ahead and created a PBwiki for D*C (it started withe packing list, but some more pages have been added.) If anyone is so inclined, it would be awesome to have some help with adding information (especially with FAQs regarding registration, autographs, food, etc.) You need a PBwiki account to edit it, but you can use openID. If anyone can think of anything useful to add, feel free.

http://dragon-con.pbwiki.com/

To edit the pages, the invite key is dragoncon.

(And seriously, are there any other existing D*C wikis out there? It seems like a logical thing to have, but I couldn't find any that contained information about attending the con, vs. the history of the con itself...)

This could be a good advice list for veterans and newbies alike, because someone's always going to forget to pack something.

What are the most random and yet very useful items you've found are a good idea to have at con? Things like sewing kits (for costumers, anyway), and something to write contact information on for people you meet are usually standards on the List of Stuff You Will Probably Want To Have, but what about slightly more random?

My first useful thing? Dish soap. If you plan on using hotel glasses (uh, you *have* seen those videos, right? just checking...), coffee makers, or have some other type of reusable beverage containers (like nalgenes or sigg bottles), this could be very useful, especially if you're mixing drinks with sticky juices or sodas. Just get one of those refillable 2oz or 3oz bottles you can get at the drug store for shampoo and fill it from the big bottle in your kitchen, and it's not much of an extra hassle.

Any other creative ideas?

This will be my first DragonCon and only my 3rd or 4th con ever (have done GAFilk twice) and am looking for a "what to expect". Anyone have any advice for the first-timer?
