For those in the Dragon*Con community who may be interested in the musical side of science fiction and fantasy fandom (and no, I don't mean all the punk-rock and hardcore bands) but may not know, D*C has a robust filk music program once again this year. Overseen by filk czar Robbie Hilliard, the filk track encompasses all four days of the con and includes panels and/or performances featuring Marc Gunn (formerly of the Brobdingnagian Bards), GAFilk chair Rob WynneTom Smith (former D*C filk czar and the World's Fastest Filker™), Alex "The Lone Gunman" BoydPandora Celtica and Yours Truly (cough-shameless-plug-cough) among others. Hey, all! Just wanted to say Hi, hope you have a safe trip to Atlanta this week, and here are my scheduled concerts for Dragon*Con:
  • Friday 8:30 p.m. - Hyatt International South Ballroom
  • Saturday 7:00 p.m. -- Hyatt International South Ballroom
  • Sunday 11:00 a.m. - Hyatt Concourse Stage
  • Sunday 8:30 p.m. - Hyatt International North Ballroom
This schedule is subject to change, and I'm also unofficially on a Babylon 5 panel sometime Sunday. I'll have more updates here, at my own LJ, and at my musicians' table over at the Marriott. Hope to see you there!

Hey, all! Tom here. (If you have no idea who I am, I'm a comedy musician who first attended D*Con in 1994, and has been here every year but one since 2004.) I'm very pleased to be returning to Dragon*Con, to be musical and silly and all that. It's gonna be a heck of a year, what with Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm joining me and Marc Gunn on the crazy side of the aisle. (Still trying to figure out why Jefferson Starship is coming. Oh well.)

Anyway, I just got my schedule for the con -- three shows, all at the International Tower in the Hyatt:
  • Fri 08:30 pm Location: International South - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
  • Sat 07:00 pm Location: International South - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
  • Sun 08:30 pm Location: International North - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
If I know Robby Hilliard, I'll likely also have a set or two down in the Filk Room, just around the corner from the Motor Pool on Hyatt Basement 3, and I'm hoping to get a set or two at the Concourse Stage on Hyatt Basement 1. (The past couple of years, I've also sung at the Awards Banquet during the Sat. 7:00 p.m. slot, but this year they're having country singer Bobby Darren.)

Anyway, I will have new songs, new merch, and who knows all what else goin' on. I'll also have a table over at the musicians' concourse at the Marriott. So please do come by and say Hi. :D

Hey, all! Tom Smith here. As per usual, the musical entertainment at D*C is fast and furious. Okay, maybe relaxed and a little cranky but only because the hot tubs don't dispense beer. Or somethin'.

I'm one of the performers. No, no, not any of the metal bands. No, not the hot guys in kilts. No, definitely not Voltaire. I'm the fat old hippie, come to make you laugh and STEAL YOUR WIMMEN.

If you haven't heard my stuff before you can hear and download lots of it (including a few hours' worth of freebies) at http://www.tomsmithonline.com . And I'm doing a lot this weekend. All events are at the Hyatt:
  • Fri 11:30 a.m. - What Is Filk? (Baker)
  • Fri 1:00 p.m. - Meet and Greet (Baker)
  • Fri 7:00 p.m. - Filk Concert Extravaganza w/Brobdingnagian Bards and Leslie Fish! (Int'l N)
  • Fri 10:00 p.m. - Filk and Cookies (Baker)
  • Sat 7:00 p.m. - Awards Banquet concert (Regency VI-VII)
  • Sat 10:00 p.m. - Concert (Baker)
  • Sun 11:00 a.m. - Concert (Concourse)
  • Sun 10:00 p.m. - Concert w/Leslie Fish (Baker)
I've also got a musician's table at the Marriott, which I'll be at after 3:00 p.m. Friday ('cause of those two back-to-back panels).

I hope you all have a fantastic time this weekend, and if you get the chance, I hope you'll come listen!

Hey, gang! Tom here. For whatever it's worth, I'm returning to Dragon*Con this year. I should have three or four concerts in various locations throughout the Hyatt, a merch table over with the rest of the bands at the Marriott, and goodness knows what else'll be going on. Robby Hilliard, the Filk Track Director, has a lot of cool ideas, and we're gonna have a whole lot of music for you.

(If you happen to not have heard of me or my stuff, click here. I've got an MP3 player program ["Death Sheep Radio"] in the middle of the page, and another page full of free MP3s -- go wild.)

I would dearly love to see Alexander James Adams and SJ Tucker appear at the con next year. Anyone else think this would be the most amazing thing ever?

I was so excited by the changes to the Filk Track in 2009, and I think it would just be unbelievably wonderful to have these two luminaries appear. Can I get a "heck, yeah!"?

I want to publicly thank Robby Hilliard in particular, Regina Kirby, Pat Henry, Heather and Susan, Kat Hibpshman, Emerald Rose, the other sound guys, the security station at the Marriott, and everybody else involved with my five sets at this year's Dragon*Con. Everybody was incredible, and Robby, the head of the Filk Track, was beyond incredible, closing in on godlike. I had a marvelous time, I think my shows all kicked ass, I had great sound, and everything pretty much worked as advertised.

And, thanks to all of you who attended my shows. I hope you liked 'em -- a lot of you certainly seemed to -- and I hope to see you all again next year.

Hey, gang! This is a repost of my schedule, just 'cause we're actually close to the con and all. :) After missing last year, I'm back at D*C, with five count 'em five sets. The pocket program has most of them listed in Filk, rather than Live Concerts, so I thought I'd put them all here for those who care. :) Remember that the musicians' tables are at the Marriott this year, but all of these performances are at the Hyatt.
  • Friday 8:30 p.m., Intl N
  • Saturday, 7:00 p.m., Awards Banquet, Regency VI-VII
  • Saturday 10:00 p.m., Intl N-South
  • Sunday 3:30 p.m., Concourse Stage
  • Sunday, 7:00 p.m., Regency V
It's a little frustrating that the filk concerts are not automatically lumped in with the live concerts, given that [a] we're not dead and [b] if you don't know to look for 'em, you'd hardly know that such excellent performers as Marc Gunn, Pandora Celtica, and the Bedlam Bards are here. The pocket program has all the Filk information on pages 24 and 25, and I heartily recommend you check us out.

Many thanks, and see you at Dragon*Con!
