I just wanted to thank everyone that participated in the Guinness attempt this year. You all were so patient and kind, and it is very much appreciated. I loved seeing all the outfits and gadgets. You are all so very creative!

I'm still waiting on evidence to be gathered, and once that is done I'll send it all into Guinness. After that, it might be four weeks from when they get the evidence to four months before we hear anything.

Again, thank you all!!

I have a question about the costume contest. It says on the track website that registration forms will be available at the Rebel Legion table, but I see that the form also on the website. Do I have to do anything at the Legion table? Or can I just show up at one of the prejudging sessions with a completed form?

Also, do I have to be at at the prejudging exactly at the start time, or can I drop in any time during the block?

If anyone knows about this, I'd be grateful for the help!

World of Warcraft Costume Contest at 4 PM in the Marriott hotel, rooms A601-A602 (on the same level as the bar – I’m sure
you know where THAT is, right?). Sure, Dragon*Con is full of costumes, everywhere, and there are easily a half dozen costume contests, but this one is just for WoW. Come and see people show off their Azerothian Finery for our celebrity judges and win prizes! ckknight, Oxhorn, and
The Guild’s Robin Thorsen & Amy Okuda will preside.

If you'd like to enter and would like to expedite the contest registration process (contest registration will be taking place in the beginning of the contest time block), you can do so by printing out the sign-up form and filling it out in advance.  Just bring it in with you!  Go here for that:

http://www.dc-mmo.org/2011/08/wow-costume-contest-signup-form/

If you don't want to do that, don't worry, we'll have copies laid out on a table right as you walk into the room for the contest; you'll just have to take the extra time to fill that stuff out on the spot.

Please try to be prompt and arrive in the first 30 minutes of the contest time block.  If you arrive after that point, we cannot guarantee entry into the contest, though you're more than welcome to watch.

If you'd like to know what other WoW-related things we have going on over the course of the weekend, check out this update on our site:

Hi -- I've worked up a Ramona Flowers costume for DC this year and now I think I'll enter the Comic Book Babes Contest.  Is anybody interested in joining me in a group as Kim Pine, Knives Chau, or Envy Adams?

To drive traffic to our fan table, we'd like to organize a "Treasure Hunt" that involves Seeker fans in costume.

Game rules: each cosplay will have a stack of small tickets (similar to those you get at raffles) that they'll hand out to any Dragon*Con attendee that inquires about the Seeker cosplay/takes a photo/etc. Basically, with any interaction, attendees get a ticket.

The cosplay will explain that once you collect 3 tickets, you can redeem a prize at the Seeker fan table. We currently have a couple of dozens Omen Machine hats and playing cards, and other small items. The treasure hunt will last until supplies last.

We're hoping to get at least 15 people in costume to participate. More is even better.

We can also do the same contests we had at past conventions since they were very well received.

So I haven't been to the con in a few years... I don't see the Friday Night Costume Contest listed under "contests" on the official site, is it no longer running? :(

Has there been talk on what, if any, World Record will be attempted this year at D*C? It's happened two years running now, and needs to happen again!

Seriously, though, don't schedule two costumed attempts on the same day...
[identity profile] peacelovefandom.livejournal.com
This bit of news about the world record Star Trek costume attempt by Creation Entertainment in Vegas would seem to imply that Dragon*Con is the current Guinness World Record holder. It seems Creation just got their certificate for their brief time holding the record. Did I miss an official announcement from Dragon*Con about our attempt?
[identity profile] tonyalittegirl.livejournal.com
does anyone know where i could find official pictures? they took pictures of my son for guiness and i can't seem to find them anywhere.  thanks
[identity profile] verdaera.livejournal.com
Does anyone know the results of this? It seems Dragon*Con never posted the results and I'm terribly curious

I know there were a couple of huge gatherings going on, were any of the world records broken during this years Dragon*Con?
like legit verified by Guinness.

I believe the Star Trek gathering took a new title?
[identity profile] kimberworld.livejournal.com
You MUST have a DragonCon membership badge for the Guinness attempt. You will not be permitted into the room unless we see a badge. There will also be no audience. If you're not participating, we cannot allow you into the room.

For superhero and Star Trek attempts:

1. Please be in costume. You will not be permitted to enter the room if you are not in full costume.
a. Does not have to be homemade. Feel free to use store bought. I did.
b. Cross-gender is fine.
c. Don't stress if the color isn't "just right" or a decoration isn't exact. Guinness won't be judging costume abilities.
d. For both attempts, costumes from print, TV, and movies are acceptable.
e. Do NOT make up a superhero or Star Trek costume.

2. Please expect to be in the room until the attempt is over. There is no in-and-out unless it is an emergency (like your back teeth are floating and your bladder is about to explode). We're planning on things to do in the room, so you aren't just being led into a big ballroom with no stimulation.

3. Please listen to staff giving instructions.

4. Be patient, please. We have to get each of you counted individually, and that will take some time.

5. Although we do have a door shut time, please remember that room is limited. Rooms will shut either at the specified time or when we reach capacity. Get there as early as possible!!

6. Magic numbers for Star Trek is 543 and for superhero it is 1,245.

7. The Star Trek attempt will have an expert there to check costumes. My guess is it is more for the non-human races and for outright bad Federation costumes (plain red shirt and jeans/shorts is a no). Again, it is not to judge your abilities, but to make sure those coming into the attempt have the correct costumes (we wouldn't want a Star Wars character coming into the attempt).

8. Please don't ask if this or that character is acceptable for superheroes. If it is "instantly recognizable" as GUINNESS states, then you're good to go. We're hoping to include some information on some of the more obscure characters that are bound to show up, but remember that in the end it is not DragonCon or those in charge of the attempt that have final say in your costume being acceptable. Guinness will review the photos, and if they don't know the character then they won't count it. If we get 1,250 into the room, and there's six characters that appeared in one comic 30 years ago, that will cost us the record. They are not used to people that spend years making costumes, and if you Google other attempts, you will see an ocean of store bought costumes. INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE is our mantra.

9. For Star Trek the costume can be any race and any variation of Federation uniforms as long as they were in print, TV, or movie.

10. Please don't be overly creative with costume tweaks. Unless there was a zombie in Star Trek, don't zombify the costume. Cross-gender is fine, but please, please keep the costumes official.

Door times:

Superhero doors will open at 1:00 (possibly earlier if we can) and will shut at 2:30 or when room is full. Get there as early as you can!! Once the doors are shut, that's it, and no more will be permitted inside. Fire marshal can be pesky about safety.

Star Trek doors will open at 7:30 (earlier if the room is cleared from previous use) and will shut at 9-9:15. Again, the doors could close earlier if the room fills, so get there as soon as you can. It's the same room as the Star Trek party, so not only will there be stuff to do during the event, there will be a party afterward.

If there are any changes or questions, please check with the information booth. Please spread this to the various messages boards for me. There's already been some misinformation on a few boards (so I've been told), and I'm trying to make sure everyone knows the requirements. I can't, however, visit every board, so your help would be most appreciated. :)

Also, if you have questions about the Steampunk photo shoot, direct those to that track. I don't know anything about it. I do know I'll be hanging around to check out the costumes, though. :)

Thank you and see you there!!

Howdy All,
I haven't seen much regarding the Steampunk Guinness attempt at D*C, and the information on the page is still empty. (Though on the schedule)

Is this gonna happen? Are there any more details? Is there life on Mars?

I'm planning my packing and suitcase room is at a premium, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Updated subject with time info. Thanks, all!
PS: If you require Ocular Protection (aka goggles) your attention to my LJ post is appreciated

Does anyone know when and where the Anime Contest is? The site doesnt tell you anything other than come by the room to sign up. Also where is the Left 4 Dead tournament being held? And do you have to pay ahead of time? or just sign up normally?
[identity profile] paidiraiompair.livejournal.com
