Since they aren't listed on the DC site, can folks give an idea of what regular rooms cost this year at each of the five host hotels, please and thanks?

Wanted to post this seperately:

Hotel reservation and roommate request posts are still redirected over to [livejournal.com profile] dragonconrooms, which is still in business and still running strong.

General posts and questions about hotels are still fine, but reservation and roomie posts will still be yanked even with this community in open mode.

Thanks everyone.

This might be the first time in about 7 years that I will not be attending Dragoncon. Mainly because of the huge crowds (seems worse every year) especially on Saturday. Even the smaller tracks have lines and overcrowded rooms now and the habitrails on Saturday were extremely dangerously crowded to a standstill last year to the point that is just wasn't even worth going out for me.

I was wondering has anything been done to improve the flow and amount of crowding in the hotels. I dont live that far away from Atlanta and might come down for a few days but last year really felt more like work that pleasure and frustration was the main primary emotion of the week. I was really surprised last year because I thought that moving the vendors out of the Marriott would really help. Dragoncon used to be my favorite event of the year and I hope some day it will again. I just cant see spending the money for that much frustration. That being said I hope everyone has and incredible and most importantly a very safe time! :)

I did a new blog on Dragon Con last night stating that as of today, we are three weeks out from the convention.  I also gave an update what I have been doing.  I also created a convention playlist all about my blogs.

Please be sure to check these out

1.My latest Vlog

http://youtu.be/ltTfrBMKpug

2. My Convention playlist.  I have some stuff from last year's show
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjRiXCMqkcTPy-mVacTXAmbV65iiIG_lW

I am still looking for people to interview for the show.

What would you like to see me cover this year without bother the major panelists?

Hi everyone:

Hi everyone:

I am happy to announce that I will be doing a series of videos at Dragon Con this year for my new video blog,  "Hello World with Miyah Sundermeyer."  Also be sure to check out my first videos premiering this week as I talk about Dragon Con.

If you have an interesting costume or just plain wish to chat,  be sure to look for a girl dressed as Twilight Sparkle with the camera man.

If you want to be a part of the Pinkie Pie Flash mob between the Sheraton and the Hilton,  that is where you will be sure to put your lovely face on camera.

Note that the Pinkie Pie Party will be on Friday August 30th at 5:00 PM in the Marriott on the 10th floor or so planned.  Please stay tuned...

The Hyatt opened up  a block of rooms today due to yesterday being the last day for cancellations. Just letting people know just in case at this very late date someone still needed a room or wanted to change from overflow to host.   I think they said they had approx. 30is rooms available.

*****BUT I have a question about parking , last year I parked at a parking garage at the end of the street from the Hyatt, if you walk out the front it was to the right.  they charged 18 a night.  Does anyone know the name of this garage and / or are they still charging 18 a night or has the rate gone up???   anyone who has knowledge of this garage could you give some info please.
thanks

Hi all,

I read through all the recent tips posted and they were great. I've been to DragonCon the last 4 years and this is my first time staying at a host hotel. Can anyone tell me any tips about the Hilton? I read through some guides I found but anything else would be greatly appreciated. Is there a fridge included? Can I bring a mini cooler/fridge? What else should I know?

Thanks all... see you soon :)

Does anyone know the 2013 Hyatt Passkey link for use tomorrow?
[identity profile] siredgar.livejournal.com
Were there any this year? We've all heard or seen the problems in the past few years that prompted the heightened badge checking. This year I haven't heard of any conflicts, which would be great if true. Anyone?

I discovered a couple of years ago that, for a single $10 monthly subscription fee that could be turned off at any time, Boingo Wireless would get me online in the hotels and airports I was going to be in for Dragon*Con, where I'd otherwise have to pay separately.

Boingo works in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, as well as in the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport and many of the connecting airports I travel through. So, I could pay $78 to the Marriott for six days of Wi-Fi connectivity, plus whatever fees are charged at the Detroit and Atlanta airports during my sojourns there, or I could just pay Boingo $10. Not a tough choice. You should join me. (No, sadly, I don't get any benefit from you signing up from Boingo, other than the warm glow of helping someone save their money for something better than handing it to the Marriott or Hyatt.)

My blog post on the subject: http://upgrd.com/blogs/trebuchet/boingo-saved-bucks.html

I'm finishing up one of my outfits and there is a possibility it will end up over 8 feet tall. Does anyone know what height the single story areas (entrance to hotels, elevators, habitrails, etc.) are?

No takers yet on my companion ticket on Alaska Airlines for R/T to Dragoncon. Your cost: $350 for the plane ticket.  ALSO will either provide room/share (sharing with just 1 other person) or let you take over the room reservation for a 2 bed room at the Hyatt for Thurs - Sun nights. (Room costs totally separate from the airline ticket price)

Alaska Airline:  Leave Thursday, 8/30 and arrive Atlanta about 4pm,  Leave Atlanta, 9/3 at 5pm and arrive back in Seattle about 8:30 pm.  You do have to be on the same flight as me!

Room only goes with the ticket or I'll release it through Dragonconrooms on Livejournal.  Trying to be fair.

This is the first year I've reserved the hotel room myself, previous times I've stayed with friends who took care of it. I want to get a room on a low floor (good luck, I know ...) so I was wondering, what is the earliest I can check in on Thursday? And do I have to arrange anything with the hotel beforehand? Our schedule is free enough that we can arrive basically whenever we want.
[identity profile] maddantanner.livejournal.com
I'm not completely sure how it is decided WHICH room you get at the Marriott upon check-in. Like, is it possible to say 'Can I get a room that's as high as possible?' or vice versa? I'm assuming it's based on what is available/clean when you get there and are ready to check-in. I'm mainly asking because I'm arriving Thursday (to avoid the Friday madness!!!!) and would love to be able to have a room that's fairly close to the ground (just in case the elevators were annoying and I decided to use the stairs instead) or one that's extremely high up because, if I remember correctly, the elevator bay in the Marriott for the upper levels goes to a smaller number of levels than the other elevators bays, thus the odds for shorter elevator wait times would be increased.

Saw several posts in the mod queue and on Facebook concerning email messages from Passkey concerning Marriott reservations along the lines of this:

Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2012 16:49:36 -0400 (EDT)From: Dragon Con 2012 Reply-To: xxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you for selecting the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for your stay during the Dragon Con Conference.

At this time I am getting ready to cancel all reservations with declined Credit cards, please contact Marriott reservation TODAY July 19th, at 866-469-5475 to update your credit card information are your reservation will be cancel. Once your reservation is canceled it will not be reinstated at the group rate.

So we dont have umpteen different posts on this same subject, I'm going to consolidate things under this master post. If any solution or resolution is found on this matter, I'll update this post and/or post another to get the word out.

If you have a post waiting in the mod queue on this, it'll be rejected but with a message directing you here. This way the discussion will be in one place rather than a dozen.

UPDATE: From the comments and from Facebook, apparently this email was sent out in error; as you could see from the poor grammar on it, it wasnt even finished before it was sent out. I would strongly urge that if you received this mail to go ahead and call and reconfirm your reservations and related charges and make sure all is in order if you havent already done so.

Thanks everyone.

Here's the link to the general con and D*C tips that I update and re-post every year:

(The second list, of suggestions made, will be updated and posted asap.)

As always, please feel free to reply with more helpful tips. :)

Ok, for the past two cons, the hubby and I always stayed at the Hilton Atlanta Airport and it was a cinch to check in and check out.
But for this year's con, we got lucky enough to snag a room at the Westin. Woohoo! I've been wondering about how the check in and check out process goes at the big host hotels. I figure it won't be as smooth as the Hilton Atlanta Airport, so I was hoping ya'll might be able to share your experiences and maybe offer up some tips and tricks for making it as pain-free as possible. All I know about the whole process is that on Monday, we usually see baggage carts piled sky-high in the sidehalls of the Marriott.
I'm especially interested in finding out if it is worth calling the hotel in advance and seeing if we can do an early check-in, or if that is what everyone does and it ends up turning into a nightmare. We live about two hours away from Atlanta, so it's not a huge drive. I would just like to get there earlier than check-in time to relax and take in the pre-con atmosphere and get in for pre-reg at a reasonable time.
Thanks in advance. :)
