The Stargate programming is now part of the new Military SciFi Media track, which also includes B5, Farscape, and Battlestar Galactica. The comm needs a new tag for this new track, please and thanks.

There also needs to be a tag for the Horror track.

Hi everyone:
As I said before I am working on a series of vlogs on youtube.  Every year I like to do a series of episodes at Dragon Con.  I have been promoting my blogs on twitter and facebook.  I am also starting to promote them on this communities because it revolves around the above.   So here is a link to my latest information on Dragon Con.

A couple months back, there was a post here about gathering up manufacturer's coupons to send to soldiers, to use in their commissaries.  I've put off gathering any as I know they're supposed to be less than 90 days (I think?) past their expiration date.  But with con less than a month away now, I have a pile of junk mail I could go through and look for coupons.  Just curious if this is still happening?  And if so, where I would drop the coupons off, at con?

(Also, is there a charity tag or similar?  I looked for something appropriate for this, but nothing jumped out at me.)

I've had a bit of a Really Bad Day (you know, what usually causes supervillains) every day since Saturday.

The local hub for my ISP got hit by lightning and fried.  I still have no home internet.  They're trying to fix it as fast as they can but no ETA on that.

Meanwhile, my grandmother's left her body and the body hasn't finished noticing yet.

Could someone take over tagging the naked posts for a few days?  I'm not sure how often I'm going to be able to get to an internet cafe for the next week or so, and of all the things to be laying awake worrying about, this is  the one my brain has settled on!  My life and schedule might be chaotic, but apparently what I need to keep organized is the Dragon*Con crowdsourcing.

Thank you kindly, cousins!  There's almost always a couple wanting "ticket/badge transfers" and a minimum of one that needs the "scheduling" tag plus a track tag.  Oh, and two or three awesome bits of news about guests and parties.  And now that it's crunch times, I expect an upswing on "when should I line up Thursday for my badge?" (registration) and some FAQs and a boatload of "for sale"s!

Dragoncon is coming up in 45 days, and this community is about to get super busy, as many of you know. In order to minimize the traffic, I have a couple of suggestions, if I may... even though I'm aware it very well may likely fall upon deaf ears.

1. Before you ask your question, PLEASE check the Dragoncon wiki or the many sites that give Dragoncon tips on Google.

2. If you make a post (or have made a post in the past, you can go back and edit your post with one of the Community tags
*How to Tag a Post

3. You can also search the community page, using the search box there, or the list of tags, to find if your question has been asked.

this will undoubtedly help keep the community down to RELEVANT posts, and keep members from being irritated when the same questions asked over and over and over and over and over.. again. Any if you guys have any other suggestions to help keep things flowing smoothly around here, by all means, add you suggestion :)

Since [livejournal.com profile] alladinsane has recently implemented the awesome feature of tagging posts, I thought I'd give a quick tutorial on how to tag your posts.

What are tags? LJ sez:

Tags are words or short phrases used to organize your journal entries. Add tags to a new entry (or while editing an old entry) by typing the tag name in the Tags field. Separate multiple tags on the same entry with a comma (eg: "pets, rover"). You can also add tags to an old entry that by clicking the icon labeled "TAG" or the "Edit Tags" link on the entry. You can view and manage all your tags at the Tags Management page. More here

Why tag, you ask?

It makes navigating easier. If you want to find all posts in the community about, say, guests, or even if you want to find out something about a particular guest, you can click the tag "guests" on the Community Tag Page, or even just click [livejournal.com profile] dragoncon and look at the left side bar, towards the bottom you'll see the list of tags.

Why tag? Because I know I speak for a lot of us when we say we're tired of people asking the same questions over and over and over and over (and over and over), and not wanting to look through the community's previous posts for the answer before subjecting themselves to the ridicule of some of the vet members. This way, it makes it MUCH more efficient to look through past posts with regards to a particular subject to find your answer.

Now, HOW to tag...

1. Edit your post
2. <-- See that button? Click it.
3. Community tags: By default, only community maintainers can create new tags for the community and community members can add those tags to entries (any entry, doesn't have to be yours)
4. Community maintainers must add new tags to entries before members can see or use them for entries. Meaning, you can only tag the entries with the tags that the community moderator has listed.
5. Maintainers can change community tag settings at the Tags Management page. If you post an entry with new tags, but do not have permission to create new tags or add existing tags, those tags will be removed from your entry.

Got that? Now I know the moderator has the community set to "Moderated" so it takes a while before your post shows. You can go back once it posts and edit it so you can add tags from the community tag list to your entry (or you can add it as you're writing your post). It's really pretty simple.

Be sure to do your part in making things flow a lot more smoothly by tagging posts, so next year we don't have to deal with the onslaught of repeated questions and posts!

P.S. [livejournal.com profile] greenwitch rocks... be sure to check out the community page for her wonderful FAQ and links to all pertinent info as well... feel free to add to enhance the DC community for all!!
