Hello all, I am a published Illustrator/Sketch card artist (see link below for examples of style) looking to fund some of my Dragoncon fun with custom sketch card artwork.

Astound your fellow congoers with professional trading card sized cosplay portrait artwork of yourself!

I also create one of a kind paintings/or drawings of your favorite characters which are a perfect and totally unique place for your prized autographs.

They are sure to impress your favorite celeb when you meet them for their signature (I can leave plenty of room at the bottom for the signature)

They make great conversation pieces when you are standing in those long lines! Each painting or sketch measures 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches and can easily be carried around in a pocket during con.

All cards come in a plastic display holder, like the ones sports cards are displayed in and I charge a very very reasonable rate. I guarantee my work and if your are not satisfied I offer a full refund.

I can either ship or deliver card to you at the con. Feel free to send me an email or reply here on LJ if interested and we can discuss details! Thanks for looking and I hope you all have the best con ever!

You can see my work here

my email contact is john@johnhatton.com or you can leave a comment here on Livejournal.

I want to know how many of you are going to D*C and how many of you are cosplaying this year and what you’re going as. You don’t have to reply to this, you can send me a private message or even an e-mail to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com.
Objective:

Part A: For the ladies:
I’ve been to Dragon*Con the last few years, this will be my.. 4th year I think. May be 3rd. I don’t remember. ANYWAY! I love taking pictures of cosplayers, but there’s always so many, I miss a lot. Especially when I do panels, but I don’t know if I want to do any this year, unless something really catches my attention.

However, this year, I want to shift my focus from taking pictures of just really great costumes, to having an actual theme and I want it to be Female Cosplayers of Dragon*Con. I’m sick of all of us getting shit for being female and dressing up as amazing characters and being grilled over and over again about how much we know about said character and being forced to prove ourselves over and over again because of our love.

Being a fan of video games or comics/graphic novels/manga, anime etc. does not mean we have to know every little detail of every little universe. Unfortunately, there are many who dont’ agree with this.

I'm looking for a multitude of costumes and fandoms, but I really want to aim for video game/comic book cosplays. This is the one area, where as a female, we are given the most attitude.

Even if you're not cosplaying as a comic or video game character and you want to be involved, please, get in touch with me. I will not reject anybody! (kids are also welcome)

Which brings me to

Part B of the Objective: For the guys

I would also like to find some guys who will be attending DC13 who don’t give a shit if a female knows every single detail of a character, game, comic, movie etc. etc. but loves the fact that they (the females) are willing to show their love for something, regardless of the ridicule and crap dealt out by those that are too insecure with themselves to open to the idea that females can be gamers - whether table top, card, RPG, first person, or comic nerds.

If anyone is willing to help out with this, please send an email to HeatherMairiPhotography@gmail.com for more details or any questions you might have. I’m still planning this out, but there’s quite a few things I would like to do with this project.

Just a quick note: I've been getting a lot of responses for this project (yay!), so I have to ask if you want to be a part of this, please don't just post in a comment to someone else. I might miss it, and I don't want to do that.

Also, if you've noticed I haven't checked in with someone yet, please keep chatter to a minimum. Once I've checked in with a person, chat to your hearts content. I just want to make sure everyone who says they want to be a part of this, gets checked in.

Greetings all!

I am the new head minion for the American Sci-Fi Classics track, where clever geeks and awesome guests talk about sci-fi TV and movies from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.We have a new track director this year, the illustrious Joe Crowe. If you've come to the ASFC track before, especially our "Stump the Geeks" panels, you know Joe.

I've been asked by Joe to put out a sneak peak at what you can expect from our new line-up this year:

8 Bits of Awesome
Bring your controllers as we take a loving look back at the golden age of video games. How Pac-Man fever infected everything from music to cartoons.

Manimal & Friends: Quickly Canceled Sci-Fi TV
Some of the most fun sci-fi TV came on two times, then nevermore. We’ll show the love for your favorite one-season wonders and ours (Manimal. Sweet Manimal.)

Agents of S.P.Y.F.I.
Join our double-oh status panelists as they take a look at all things Spy-Fi; movies and TV, serious and spoof -- and the 50th anniversary of a little film containing a guy named Bond, James Bond.

Zombie Night!
Join our zombie experts (do they have PhZs?) to watch an undead movie classic!

Here We Go Again: Sci-Fi Movie Remakes
Remakes, reboots, and re-imaginings. Which ones were good ideas, and which were regrettable regurgitations?

Ahead to the Past! Time Travel in TV and Movies
Talk about classic time travel TV and movies, from Time Tunnel to Voyagers to Back to the Future, as we look to the future, for that is where we will spend the rest of our lives.

And there will be more! We've got Farscape guests! Babylon 5 guests! Games! Contests! We also have a Facebook group, and will be putting out a call for people who want to volunteer to speak on fan panels once the full schedule is released into the wild.

And calling all arty types! We want logos for this track. It has to say "American Sci-Fi Classics" on it. We'd like one 80s-style, and one 70s-style. Send 'em to revolutionsfjoe@gmail.com. We'll sing of your greatness like dwarves!

It's my sad duty to report that legendary fantasy cover artist Darrell K. Sweet passed away this morning. He leaves behind a rich legacy of art gracing more book covers than I can count, a Hugo nomination and numerous other award nominations. Darrell was a guest of the convention back in 2005 and I was fortunate to spend time with him in the WOT track. Unfortunately, he died with his final book cover incomplete. From what I've been told, the cover for A MEMORY OF LIGHT, the final WHEEL OF TIME novel was still in it's early stages when he passed. He was 77.

Is the image that was used on the Dragon*Con 2011 official tee shirt available online anywhere?

I can't find it anywhere including the artist's website.

Thanks,

Kevin

In coordination with the Woodruff Arts Center’s Target Free Thursday program, the High Museum of Art will offer free admission to all walk-up visitors on the first four Thursdays in September (1, 8, 15, and 22). Target free Thursdays aims to introduce families to the educational programming of all the woodruff arts center divisions―Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum of Art and Young Audiences – for free. For each of these thursdays, in addition to free admission, the high will offer expanded toddler Thursday workshops, access to the Greene Family Learning Gallery, special family tours from 4 to 6 p.m. and art-making workshops for teens.

Free admission on these Thursdays is available through day-of, walk-up tickets only; no tickets can be reserved online. Free admission is only applicable for individual visitors. The High is opening 10 a.m. To 8 p.m. On Thursday; last admission tickets are available at 7 p.m.

The High Museum is 1 block from Arts Center (N5) MARTA station, about a 7 minute ride from Peachtree Center (N1) which is located beneath the food court at Dragon*Con. A round trip on MARTA costs $4 plus fifty cents for the ticket if you don't already have a card.

Probably a stupid question, but...how would I go about getting Michael Whelan's autograph? Is there a separate area for artists, like the Walk of Fame? I usually only go to the Walk of Fame, so I'm not familiar with getting artists' and authors' autographs. I was lucky enough to meet Nene Thomas last year in the dealer's room, but that's the first time I've encountered any of the artists. Thanks!

Are there artists out there that would be interested in creating a logo-ish design for the costuming track that involves a dragon and sewing? I would like to talk to them.

Pandorica-inspired artworkThis is an art print from one of my fine art drawings inspired by the dimensional design on the outside of the Pandorica (from the Dr. Who series).

For the next 24 hours, you can download a copy, free: http://eileenmorey.com/fineart/pandorica-4-one-day-download/

It will print on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper at 150 pixels/inch.  The actual artwork does not include the grey border shown here; that's just to define the image in my posts.

I'm expecting to be at Dragon*Con 2011, and you can look for me at the annual ATC (artist trading cards) workshop/panels, and at the zine panel (if we have that again this year).

However, my Guest badge won't say "Aisling" on it, or even "Eileen"... (It's a long story that I usually explain in my art-related panels.)

The Comic and Pop Arts Alley will be held in Grand Hall East of the Hyatt. There will be many amazing artists and designers exhibiting this year: http://www.atlantacomicsexpo.com/ And for the second year straight, Rivet will also have a booth.

Rivet is a designer vinyl toy store and gallery located in Columbus, Ohio. Take a look at the web site and see what Rivet is all about: http://www.rivetgallery.com

Amanda L. Spayd will have an exclusive Rivet release at Dragon*Con and be at the booth as well.

I hope that you will stop by and visit the booth and the rest of the Comics and Pop Arts Alley during the weekend. If you see any items and have a special request for something to be brought to Atlanta, please feel free to send me an email.

Thanks and see some of you soon!

One day moving help needed at the Dragon*Con office!  Because of a delivery mix-up, the Art Show is going to be extremely short-handed on Friday, July 30 moving the old pegboard system out and the new one into the office.  Short-handed as in there is one person at the moment. The time on Friday is still TBD but if you contact John, Anne, or the Dragon*Con office at the addresses/phone numbers below they can get you all of the information.

This Friday only help does NOT qualify you for a volunteer badge, however the Art Show is also in dire need of help at the Convention as well.  For the convention they need load in/load out crews (ability to lift heavy objects needed), and also help during the convention. Again, please contact one of the addresses/phone number below for more information.

If you can help, please contact John or Anne Pairise at dc_artshow (at) dragoncon (dot) org, or the Dragon*Con office at dragoncon (at) dragoncon (dot) org, or 770-909-0115.

Thanks!
~Cassy Gordon

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me contact an artist from the con. There was an artist on the back wall who was selling a Mucha-styled print of Poison Ivy (along with prints of other female characters). I got a card from him but can't find the bloody thing anywhere! AAAUGGHH!

His group and/or studio is scheduled to be at the Baltimore Comic-Con but he won't be attending. The now missing card had info so that I can get his folks to bring the Poison Ivy piece with them to BCC for me.

Can anyone help a fellow geek out? MTIA.

I bet some of you have seen this picture, so I figured I'd ask in this community. I used to have an image on my hard drive called "The Dragon*Con food pyramid", and in it was the DragonCon logo and a food pyramid labeled something like "food - sugar - caffeine - BOOZE" from top to bottom with pictures corresponding to each one (I know the "sugar" section was a picture of doughnuts). Does anyone have this image and if so can you post it here? I wanted to post it on my facebook

The person who made it originally used to have it on Deviant Art but it looks like s/he has left that site because everything has been deleted from their page. :(

Thank you in advance.

Several people have posted and asked for suggestions on who to see for ink during the con.
I can't give my stronger support to Loki (Shane Defriece).
He is talented and professional. He has traveled quite a bit due to nationwide demand for his skilled needle.
Check out his site: http://inkjinx.com/

His contact info:
call loki to set up an appointment: (678) 891-9291
you can email him here: lokithirteen@yahoo.com
or find him on myspace.com - http://www.myspace.com/loki13

Anyway- he is currently thinking about being out of town for the weekend but if he gets appointments he'll stay here and sling in for all us wonderful freaks and geeks.
You won't be disappointed. He truly is astounding and will take the best of care of you and your art.

The Artist Trading Card Workshop and Swap will be back this year!

What are Artist Trading Cards? Take a piece of paper/cardboard/whatever cut to 2.5"x3.5" (same size as a baseball card), decorate it in any way that you like, put your name and a date on the back, then swap your cards with other artists and collect your own gallery of miniature art. :) They are a great way for people of all skill levels to express themselves. We will have supplies on hand, but we'd also like to encourage people to create cards in advance and bring them to the con. For more information see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards
http://www.atcsforall.com/
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=259.0

On Saturday at 4:00pm in Hanover A-B we will have a workshop with supplies available to make your own cards on the spot. On Sunday at 5:30pm in Hanover A-B we will have another opportunity to show off and swap cards, and if there's time (which there usually is) we'll get the supplies out again and make some more.
