Dragon*Con is, among other things, that time of year when internet memes become costumes.  As a habitual last-minute costumer, I was thinking of something fun and easy when something hit my Facebook page.  Behold!  The Grumpy League of America!  And the best thing is, cheap store-bought costumes (plus signs) are actually better for the cartoony look of the meme.  Who's in for some or all of these cats?

Okay, I give up. My Google-fu has failed me. I have searched for hours.

I'm trying to get my hands on a pair of those adorable latex-looking wings you see a gajillion girls wear at the con every year. I know Bast's Garden sells small wings, but a) the Bast's Garden ladies don't seem to sell online right now, and b) I'm looking for a very specific kind of wing, the kind I don't think they sell. They don't splay out to either side; they stick out more towards the back. They're usually pretty small and I THINK they're probably made of latex or rubber.

I found ONE picture of a girl who has a pair:

All she says in her 2-year-old forum post is that she didn't make them herself; she does not say where she bought them.

Does anyone own a pair of wings like that, or know where I can get my hands on some?

Thanks!

Looking for advise/help from someone with experience Hand Laying Facial Hair/Beards. Doing a Ming the Merciless this year and the Fu Manchu beard I ordered just isn't going to cut it.

Using hand laying techniques, Would it be possible to extend my existing Goatee or will existing facial hair need to go all together?? (Not really a problem, It grows back but I would like to keep it if possible)

Any Hair/Makeup/FX people experienced in doing this available for hire on Saturday sometime to come turn a goatee into nice long Fu Manchu??

Costumers!

Okay this has been a sort of long shot for me everywhere I've looked, but I thought I might post here just to check. Is there a costumer here that can sew with retail leather or knows someone who can?

I really hate to do this, but does anyone have any time to take any last minute prop Commissions for this year's con? My friends and I need a few Angel Blades from Supernatural, and we've tried 4 different ways of making them, but none are working out as well as we'd like, and none of us have any skill with resin or wood on that level. We're willing to pay completely for the short notice as well.

More reference pictures )

I keep running into problems with the 3 sided blade, which is why all of mine have horribly messed up.

If anyone can save us, you will be our heroes!!

I am looking to commission a very high quality and accurate Ming Costume for Dragon-con. The costume that I would like made is here:

If any seamstress or Costume Designer is available that can complete this commission before Dragoncon, Please contact me. I will need references and would like to see examples of previous work. I know this will not be cheap and would not want it if it was.

If you might be able to accept this commission or know someone that is qualified to make this for me, Please contact me to discuss timetable and costs. I am based out of Atlanta but will be willing to travel for Measurements and fitting if necessary. Clearly, Time is of the essence here.

So, I hate to do this because I know it's so close to con, but does anyone know of someone who has experience working with fake leather/pleather/pvc? I'm trying to get an Angel Salvadore costume done by dragon*con, and while I have experience sewing, I've never worked with fake leather before and I don't even know where to start.  (suit only)

Unless someone is willing to give me advice on where to purchase and how to work with it (like, do i need an accessory on my sewing machine, special needles, etc?), (and I hate to do this because I've done last minute commissions, and i hate hate hate them) does anyone have time before Dragon*con to be able to do a custom commission? (I'd obviously be willing to pay materials/time/and extra for rush). I would love you forever if you'd be willing to take my on as a customer for this if you have experience in working with these materials and making super-hero costumes.

Hopefully this is community appropriate.. I need a very simple metal symbol made for my Dragon*Con costume. I believe it would just involve bending a piece of metal into place, and it would be something like 3-4 inches long. I'm not looking for fancy metal, just something simple!

If you can do this for me, please send me a message on here :) Examples of your work would be nice if possible. Thanks!

Last year, I seem to recall a few different folks offering makeup application services on an appointment basis. Will anyone be doing so this year?
[identity profile] naomi-de-plume.livejournal.com
It's 85 days to Con and I realize I'm never going to be able to do all the sewing I need to get done. I expected to be able to turn to Etsy's Alchemy and place some orders but it doesn't exist any more. :_( Can anyone recommend a vendor/costume maker/sewing expert who can help? I'd supply the fabric and patterns (already bought 'em) and pay for the labor. Thanks!

Chainmail

Hello!
I wanted to make a costume from Spartacus: Blood and Sand for this year, but have come across a problem. The costume I want to make specifically has the character wearing a chainmail sleeve, which I know I can't make. I've looked around, but can only find chain mail coifs, shirts, and bikinis which are awesome, but are not what I need.

I was wondering then, if anyone here knew some particular place online where I could buy a chain mail sleeve, or if anyone works with or knows someone who works with chainmail who they could put me in touch with.

Thanks in advance! :D

Ok fellow geeks and peeps, your humble narrator is appealing to the masses.

Does anyone have a link or a recommendation for a costume manufacturor, preferably small scale and personal that could produce custom costume peices and props?  This is for personal cosplay, details given privately.  I am looking for professional grade and would expect no less from the talent of such fine people.

Link me, talk to me, message me please.

Thanks

Before I forget my brainstorm at Dragon*Con this year, I'd like to get in touch with an experienced costume designer who can do vacuum formed armor pieces for a costume project that popped into my skull during the convention this weekend.

I honestly have no idea how long these things might take, so I'm asking early to get an idea of how bad this is going to be or even if it is possible.  I am a complete noob at costuming, but this was one of those "oh, if that could be done, it would be SO cool!" ideas.

If you're interested, or know someone who might be, please contact me through the DC*MMO website.

Wigs
- Natural colors

- Pre-styled character specific wigs and accessories

Makeup

Also, we will be offering makeover services from the fabulous Nicole Paige Brooks (of RuPaul's Drag Race: Season 2 ).  Full makeovers are $69.95 and include eyelashes.  Eye makeup only (also includes lashes) is $34.95.  To book an appointment, please email orders@godsavethequeenfashions.com with the subject line DRAGON*CON MAKEOVER.  We are happy to offer price breaks to those booking multiple appointments.

Makeover services are not limited to a specific gender.  Men, women, aliens, we can make all of you beautiful!  We are however, limited to natural and glamor makeup only.  We are not equipped for special fx or full bodypaint.  We CAN do glamor makeup on top of painted faces however (think Hellgirl, She Hulk, or other painted characters).

We will be taking PRE-ORDERS for the next few weeks.  If there is an item you absolutely must have (a wig, specific type of makeup, etc.) we can have it ready for you to pick up at the con.  This is a great way to save on shipping.  To arrange a pre-order, email orders@godsavethequeenfashions.com with the subject line DRAGON*CON PRE-ORDER.

A few examples of our current pre-orders...

- Leon Kennedy Wig
- She Hulk Wig
- Katy Perry Wig
- Poison Ivy Wig

Lastly, already prepped for Dragon*Con this year?  During the rest of the year when we're not at Dragon*Con, we make custom costumes!  Come look through our portfolio and talk to us about having a custom costume or wig styled for next year!  We will be offering special discounts for custom commissions!

Thanks for looking, and see you at the con!

I'm planning a costume... I say "planning", but really I mean "dreaming about".

It's basically a red leather bodysuit (Mord Sith from the Sword of Truth series). But this is ambitious for me. I've never done anything more than generic sexy vampire. I need some random advice.

It doesn't have to be leather; it just has to look like it. I am aware of the heat issue; I'm an Atlanta native, and your puny sun and humidity do not frighten me. It can be the Legend of the Seeker version, or straight out of the books.

What I suppose would be really helpful is if anyone knows someone who does custom corsets/costumes/leatherwork in the Atlanta area or not too far away (or who does really good work and can work from measurements, I suppose). I am not above paying someone to make this for me! lol

Or, if anyone has done a similar costume, how did you go about it? Any tips?

Hair Help?

I realize this is cutting it a bit close, but I thought I'd at least try.

Last Spring, I had a (thankfully) benign brain tumor removed. I still have the scar, and it's making it difficult for me to do anything to my own hair. Sooo...

Is there anyone out there who does hair and would be willing to do mine on Saturday morning? Any time before 11:15 is good for me. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price if you so desire. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that looks either vaguely Edwardian or 1940s, keeps the hair out of my face, and lasts through Saturday. E-mail me at LillyElizabeth @ gmail.com if interested to discuss cost, materials I need to provide, location etc.

Thank you!

I've recently started jogging, and I'm a hardcore geek. I like Simon Pegg as an actor and would LOVE to get an Erectile Dysfunction t-shirt for before, during or after Con. Anybody have any useful (besides: google /amazon / e-bay) leads?

Does anyone know if anyone provides airbrushing services at Dragon?
I really want to do an Orion Slave girl but I don't have access to an airbrush kit or compressor.
