Does anyone know if they've split up the Sci Fi Fantasy lit track for sure? There was some wording in the "what's new" section that made it sound as if they had...but it's still listed as one track in the fan tracks section. (Oh, and there's also some talk on the Anne McCaffrey FB page about it as well that also makes it sound as if they split the track into separate Sci Fi Lit and Fantasy Lit trackS, but again...I can't find anything on the Dragon*Con site about it.)

Regardless, I also can't seem to find a way to get in touch with the person or people who run the Sci Fi/Fantasy Lit track...their website hasn't been updated since 2010/2011, nor does it have any contact info on it :-/  Google revealed an LJ group for them but no one has posted there since 2011, either...so if anyone has the track director's contact info, or even any general info on what's going on with this, I'd love to hear it :)

Below is the unofficial schedule of academic comics studies and pop culture studies programming at Dragon*Con, organized by the Comics and Popular Arts Conference for 5 years now. There is also a more printable version and a schedule grid

Thank you to everyone, participants, track heads, and attendees, who have made academic programming such a success over the years. If you enjoy what you see this year, I urge you to go to the D*C Mobile App and rate our panels!

DragonCon is the largest gathering of Terry Goodkind and Legend of the Seeker fans in the world, and our chief baddie, Craig Parker (Darken Rahl) is attending!

We have many activities planned, including contests, fan panels, photo shoots, and a group at the costume parade.  The summary below will be updated on an ongoing basis to reflect changes.

Brandon Sanderson's on the guest list this year and I was wondering if anyone else was going to be doing costumes based on his books. I will be wearing my Elantris costume one day and possibly my Mistborn another day (though I've worn that one a couple of times before; it's just I don't have a lot new costumes this year). I would love to meet up

It's my sad duty to report that legendary fantasy cover artist Darrell K. Sweet passed away this morning. He leaves behind a rich legacy of art gracing more book covers than I can count, a Hugo nomination and numerous other award nominations. Darrell was a guest of the convention back in 2005 and I was fortunate to spend time with him in the WOT track. Unfortunately, he died with his final book cover incomplete. From what I've been told, the cover for A MEMORY OF LIGHT, the final WHEEL OF TIME novel was still in it's early stages when he passed. He was 77.

Anyone have contact info for the Sci-Fi/Lit track? I'd like to give some feedback / suggest panels for next year, but I can't find any recent contact info.

Here is a list of all the academic panels at Dragon*Con that have been organized by the Comics and Popular Arts Conference group. This year's programming would not have been possible without my co-organizer, R. Scott Nokes, our Programming Chair, Damien Williams, and our Programming Committee: Dennis LoRusso, Stephanie Noell, Vickie Willis, and Robin Zebrowski. And of course, all of the fantastic track heads.

Ahoy all!

In past years, I've appeared at DragonCon in my role as senior editor of Weird Tales, the world's oldest fantasy/horror/sci-fi magazine. This year, I'm the editor and coauthor of a new book that I'm showcasing at the con: GEEK WISDOM: The Sacred Teachings of Nerd Culture.

It's a sci-fi/fantasy-themed inspirational book, featuring 200 one-page philosophical musings based on the most beloved quotations from geeky films, books, tv shows, comics, etc. ("You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." "So say we all." "Snozzberries? Who ever heard of a snozzberry?" "I have been, and always shall be, your friend." "Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.") There are quotations and references from all our favorite things: Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, Marvel and DC Comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, The Powerpuff Girls, ThinkGeek t-shirts...

I'm incredibly proud to have been able to compile this testament to 21st-century nerdity. Several brilliant coauthors helped me create it, including Hugo- and Nebula-nominated novelist N.K. Jemisin ("The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms,") steampunk novelist and blogger Genevieve Valentine ("Mechanique"), movie critic and political commentator Zaki Hasan (The Huffington Post), and indie comics writer and journalist Eric San Juan ("A Year of Hitchcock").

I'll be doing a reading from GEEK WISDOM (with door prizes!) on Sunday at 1pm, in the Hyatt's Edgewood room. Would love to see you all there!

I've never been to any of the readings. Do the authors ever do signings afterward? I have one of Lackey's collector edition novels that I would love for her to sign. Do authors ever do this? I don't want to be impolite and, seeing as how I've never been to a reading, I'm not sure if there is even an opportunity for this sort of thing.

Thanks y'all. :]

(I'm not entirely sure how to tag this.)

I'd like to do a panel on the use of music in sf and fantasy. I'd ideally like a musician or two to be on the panel. Anyone?

Also, if anyone who is attending DragonCon is, or knows of, a sociologist who is also attending, could you contact me please?
