The Bella Morte van has just pulled back into town, and before passing out after a whirlwind five days I need to offer one huge public THANK YOU to everyone that helped make my first DragonCon (and my first show as Bella's bass player) such an awesome experience. It was the absolute best possible end to the summer, and all that was needed to make sure that, band or no band, I'm there next year and many to come.

Lastly, I wanted to introduce everyone to a acquaintance that I made while there. A lot of you will recognize him; I believe he gets around every year, but he was kind enough to stop and explain himself to a friend of mine with an iPhone, who was definitely feeling the effects of his company and appreciated the rundown. Observe:

Thank you again, good night, and see you mugs next year.

Hi everyone :)
Just wanted to say that this past con was excellent and met some really awesome people there :)
Volunteers and staff, thank you for all your hard work!

Also, I wanted to see if there were any "Dark Friend/Werewolf" players/participants out there who were interested in reconnecting and making new friends :)
In case you're wondering who I am... )

What is the best way to hunt down someone you met briefly at the convention but failed to exchange info? I've got a first name and the handle he put on his badge. For reasons I can't even explain to myself, I need to find this guy...

There seem to be quite a few posts harping about the bad things that happened this past weekend (egging, notwithstanding - that SHOULD be harped on!).  While I had some bad experiences (missing the Venture Bros. panel, for one) - I wanted to focus on the GOOD things that happened.  Here are just a few favorites from my weekend:

I got to shake hands with Terry GIlliam!
I heard Neil Innis perform "The Ballad of Sir Robin" live
I, literally, ran into Aaron Douglas on an escalator - sorry about that, Chief!
I got to hear Rox from Need Coffee sing karoke - okay, maybe that wasn't "good", but it was funny!
I watched as Doc Hammer nearly had a brain aneyrysm trying to talk about "botox" for one minute without repeating terms/words
I discovered a bunch of great new bands (How I Became the Bomb, WEEP and Spider Lilies)
I, once again, got to hang out with 35,000 fellow geeks, freaks and neredowells!

Thank you DragonCon!  Thank you, fellow geeks!  See you next year!

PS--I sorely missed DragonCon TV this morning

Did anyone get video of when the BSG stars came to the colonial fleet party?  OR really any footage of the party would be awesome!  Naturally I left my camera in the room :(

I have a million examples of coolness during this convention. The geek tribe being willing to band together. It came through in giving directions, taking pictures for each other, turning in found badges, holding this for just a minute while she rearranges her costume, holding doors, physically hauling the wheelchair of a person you don't know up a short flight of stairs when the lift isn't working... and more generally (for the most part) not being jerks. Thank you, thank you all.

I am specifically posting this because I owe a debt. I was $5 short in the Mulgrew/Nimoy/Shatner ticket line, and you loaned it to me. I think your badge name said "Truexana", and it definitely had two pale ribbons on it, but LiveJournal seems to have neither an account named truexana nor truexanna. I ran downstairs to the ATM, but when I got back up you were nowhere to be found.

Thanks again, for everyone who made this a wonderful experience.

Maybe someone on here can help me or some across it?

I've gone through every bit of luggage, talked to all the hotels lost and founds numerous times since Saturday night to now, I left info and inquiry with Dcon Security and lost and found, and even tried to spread the word amongst a few friends, but has anyone come across, know of anyone who has come across a black bodied and green patterned baby Ergo carrier (looks like a backpack carrier can be worn front or back, padded shoulders and waist, might have a few items like diapers or paper cards in the pocket?) Really really desperate to find it and have it returned (this is my most prized and of only two carriers I own and the one I use regularly and constantly, not to mention it was a gift and not a cheap one.
Out of all the things lost and also stolen this weekend this is one of the bigger deal items I am concerned with and most upset about loosing.

Now also if anyone knows the whereabouts of a white Sony Viao laptop (or anything else that was stolen from the celebrity photo room this weekend that be great to(that particular laptop especially, I want my my con photo's and my stuff on the hardrive back thanx.
thought it couldn't hurt to ask on that as well.

I want to say thank you guys for an awesome con. Staff, hotel employees, other con goers, and almost everyone I ran in to was helpful, friendly and nice. I brought my boyfriend and my stepsister for their first time to the con, and kept telling them that everyone was just so amazing. I'm pretty sure they thought I was living in a fantasy world, cause we all know the real world is full of people who are mean, angry, and will go out of their way to be jerks. Once again, congoers came through. I stopped random people for directions when I was lost, and was pointed in the right directions (even by staffers who weren't currently working). People help open elevator doors, and made room for as many people as possible. I had amazing chats with random people while standing in line (for the elevator, for panels, in dealers/exhibitors halls, at the art show, at the food court.. pretty much anywhere). Again and again and again people promoted the idea that the world in general (not just at the con) is a friendly place, that people are helpful, and you can find something in common with most anyone.

Of course there was the occasional issues like a bunch on non congoers waiting for the elevator and cursing up a storm.  Trying to cross the street between the Hyatt and Marriot, people complaining or asking inappropriate questions at panels, etc

But overall, you people are an awesome bunch.
Thanks for making this con so awesome that before the weekend was over, the boy was asking if we were coming back next year.

Does anyone know what the final numbers were on the Blood Drive this year? Last I heard, we had beat ComicCon 2:1 and possibly set a Guinness World Record.

Thank you

I wish to thank DC Security staffers and the rest of the staff to help make this a great con.  It was a hard con this year, no more DC on a full moon weekend.  But I wish to thank each and everyone of you.  You have help make this one a great con.  Again Thank you all for the great job this year and see you next year.

Thank you!

I want to publicly thank Robby Hilliard in particular, Regina Kirby, Pat Henry, Heather and Susan, Kat Hibpshman, Emerald Rose, the other sound guys, the security station at the Marriott, and everybody else involved with my five sets at this year's Dragon*Con. Everybody was incredible, and Robby, the head of the Filk Track, was beyond incredible, closing in on godlike. I had a marvelous time, I think my shows all kicked ass, I had great sound, and everything pretty much worked as advertised.

And, thanks to all of you who attended my shows. I hope you liked 'em -- a lot of you certainly seemed to -- and I hope to see you all again next year.

Another con is gone....only the memories remain....

You guys worked really hard and made us all look good.

Thank you!

Mine was a combination of pleasure and stress.

It was wonderfull to re-aquaint myself with my 'home'. The stress began when I looked at the schedule and had to plan our Friday and Saturday to a science. I made sacrifices for certain things, yet was lucky enough to acheive much of what I wanted to do.

I decided to locate the art show and take a brief look around after securing Bill Shatners signature on my Boston Legal dvd and a few more on the walk of fame. Shatner was a robotic experience but I blame his handler, that and the fact that it can't ultimately be pleasent signing items for decades of fans and now knowing which one is the axe murder wanting to have his babies. Because we did the art show for about 20 mins and then joined the line to Terry Gilliam for signatures. . they cut us off and we were unable to get near him. . ah well maybe next time.

The sleep I had planned to get .. lol . well enough of that ..

Well, I'm just touching briefly on a few things as we just got back. Ultimately sacrifices were made as they are for everyone.

For those in here that saw me, it was nice to see you, for those that didn't perhaps next time. I was tired for a lot of the con and quite honestly, as much as I did not want to leave, it's nice to be home.

So just how was 'your' experience? :)

Year 2 of the MMORPG track is in the books.  I'd like to take a second to extend my thanks to the DC*MMO staff who busted their butts to make things happen this year.

That said, I'd really appreciate it if any of you out there have some constructive criticism as to how we can do better for next year.  As I said in our wrap up panel on Monday, we did some things right, but we made some mistakes.  We need to learn from those so that next year's MMO track will be even better.

Thanks

Thanks to all of you who attended the events we presented this weekend!

First, I'd like to apologize to those who weren't able to attend some of the panels due to the overwhelming response. Since we were just starting out, we were assigned a small room and a fairly small amount of staff.

The Time Travelers' Ball also got assigned a fairly small event space. Further, due to a medical emergency, some of us weren't able to be there managing the line as well as we should have. (Several volunteers stepped up and donated their time and energy to the cause, and I thank them!)

And, although I said it many times this weekend, THANK YOU to all the awesome staff folks...without you, we couldn't have done any of it!

We'll be back again next year with more events as well as others which have already become fan favorites...so, polish up your storytelling skills, pimp out your Nerf Maverick, and come see us in 2010!

Well another Dragon*Con has come to a close and now it's time to rest and prepare for the con crud and start uploading photos. Before I do that though I have a lot of gratitude to express.

I want to first and foremost give a huge thank you to all of the fans of the Whedon Universe track that share their ideas and input with us throughout the year to help with some of the programming.  Also to those of you that stand in the lines to see your favorite shows or guest you deserve a huge thank you for being patient with us while we get you seated and situated for each of these events.

I would also like to thank the Whedon Universe Staff - Melissa, James, Javier, Meg, Megi, and Ziggy for really going above and beyond when it counted the most.  You guys are  truly what makes it all work and I thank you for your efforts year round and at Con.  You definitely live up to the phrase "Hire people smarter than you"

I would also like to thank the Southeastern Browncoats for organizing the Shindig this year.  You guys are made of win!  Thank you Emerald Rose and The Bedlam Bards for playing the Shindig and keeping the 'Verse alive in song!  It was truly a great experience on Saturday Night

A very very very special thanks to DCTV.  You guys keep an anxious crowd very well entertained while we load the rooms (Fang Friends FTW). The Late show is made of win.  I watched every one and it should be a regular thing.  Keep those great ideas flowing!

...and thanks to all of those wonderful and very professional people who manage and organize Dragon*Con who support me and my staff each year with large rooms, tech, crowd control, security, water,  and all of the very important details that make us look like seasoned professionals.

I managed to capture some of the fun we had on TwitPic this weekend and you can go here to see it.

Thanks again to everyone that was a part of the track.  Hope to see you all again next year in 2010.

This here's a crosspost from [livejournal.com profile] weyrfest, but what better opportunity to thank people AND pimp my community? ;>

It's another Dragon*Con come and gone. Crazy, how the year before seems to take forever, and then, before you know it, Labor Day weekend is over. I hope everyone had safe journeys home -- and that no one else caught my cold!

I want to thank everyone for making this year's Weyrfest (known to your Pocket Guide as Anne McCaffrey's Pern) another great success. We're so thrilled to have such a loyal group of friends, and grateful for every new one we make. Whether you were new to our track or an old hat at this whole D*C thing, thank you so very much for your attendance, suggestions, and support (and for all the laughs!).

A BIG thank you is due to my staff: Angel Adams, my vivacious (and curvaceous!) Second, who put in 33 hours over the course of the weekend (and those are just the ones we logged); Susan "Garfield" Martin, who kept Todd in coffee and sugar-starved staffers in peanut butter crackers; Robert "Mom, Dad -- I'm Gaelic" Raney, new to us but not at all new to Cons (and who probably got more kisses from me this weekend than my own boyfriend); Nicole Kosoris, who helped us out for a second year, and who may in fact be sharing my cold (OMG SO SORRY Nicole); and Diana Blount, who contributed time and beautiful hand-painted dragon statues (and to whom I also owe another OMG SO SORRY, having accidentally decapitated one of the aforementioned statues). Almost everything that makes Weyrfest go well is due directly to the hard (and completely unpaid) work of these people, at the expense of their time and dollars, and you would be absolutely right to send them bags and bags of love letters and marriage proposals.

Huge props to our guests: Todd "I Love It When Cat Hits Me" McCaffrey, Jody Lynn Nye, Bill Fawcett, S.M. Stirling, Toni Weisskopf, Katherine Kurtz, Scott MacMillan, Chelsea Quin Yarbro, Janny Wurts, and Don Maitz. We had so much fun hearing your stories and learning about what makes you tick. (Extra kudos to Katherine and Scott for joining us, unscheduled, for Delphic Oracle!) Please do these folks a favor: visit their websites, buy their books, and hang their art on your walls. (I bought a mug from Janny! Now y'all go and follow my good example.) Please come back to us next year!

Much love and gratitude to our raffle prize donors and discounters: The Golden Cockerel, for offering us a great discount on their exquisite handmade wooden eggs; Mike Freeman and Tania Opland, for sending FOUR new albums, including two copies of their brand new Harper Hall CD, "Sunset's Gold," and two copies of Tania's new solo album; Andrea at The Copper Dragon, for donating a $50 gift certificate for our costume contest; Laurie "Shalyn" Hicks of The Dragon's Jewels, for donating two more of her incredible beaded dragons, in addition to two embroidered pouches and two beautiful embroidered book covers; Pixie Garcia and Wildside Press, for giving us BUNCHES of brand new copies of Anne's books; and Sarah "Aranel" Jones, for sending along daggers, books, and a pattern for my Steampunk Leia corset. ;>

Finally, a big round of applause for Celtic folk rockers Emerald Rose, who was only scheduled to play for us for half an hour on Sunday, but who generously indulged us for a full TWO HOURS with their unsurpassed talent and wit. We hope everyone bought their CDs -- and if you didn't, you still can via their website or iTunes. Watch this space for video clips from their performance (provided YouTube cooperates with me)!

Please, please, PLEASE visit our community, [livejournal.com profile] weyrfest, to post your pictures, videos, stories, and suggestions. We'd love to know what you liked, what didn't really work, and what you want to see for next year. Only 359 days left! ;>

See you all then!
