The Alternate History Track Thanks You!!

Thanks to all of you who attended the events we presented this weekend!

First, I'd like to apologize to those who weren't able to attend some of the panels due to the overwhelming response. Since we were just starting out, we were assigned a small room and a fairly small amount of staff.

The Time Travelers' Ball also got assigned a fairly small event space. Further, due to a medical emergency, some of us weren't able to be there managing the line as well as we should have. (Several volunteers stepped up and donated their time and energy to the cause, and I thank them!)

And, although I said it many times this weekend, THANK YOU to all the awesome staff folks...without you, we couldn't have done any of it!

We'll be back again next year with more events as well as others which have already become fan favorites...so, polish up your storytelling skills, pimp out your Nerf Maverick, and come see us in 2010!

I managed to get into the Repo panel and thought it was great. I wanted to get into others, but alas...the lines. Do you think they'll have a bigger room next year?

I'm glad you got into the Repo! panel; there was quite a line for that one, too....and I loved seeing all the awesome costumes!

As for the bigger room issue, my boss (the Director of Fan Tracks) is aware, because he personally observed the lines and the crowded rooms we had for most of our panels. He explained that room size for tracks is based on demand. Since this was our first year and the demand was unknown, we got a 'starter' room. Now that there have been counts, an adjustment will be made next year.

This was the first year of an official fan track that incorporated steampunk (and other things). Repo! was one panel that was part of our track.

Indeed, there has been a strong and increasing steampunk presence at D*C for the last few years. That's why I proposed the track two years ago. I'm pleased that we got the space this year, but I regret that the space was so small. (And responding to your other comment, I'm sorry you and your friends didn't get into the panels. The word has been passed to D*C higher-ups, believe me! (If you have any further concerns and suggestions, please write to me directly--I promise to reply to you!)

More space is the biggest thing. I missed out on both the makers panel and the time traveller's ball because they simply ran out of space. I was very disspointed in that, and I know that most all of my friends also missed out and were unhappy about that. With around 1/3rd of the costumes I saw being steampunk, and with the abundance of steampunk costumes last year, I am surprised to hear that people didn't feel it was big enough to merit a more high profile space.

I know I mentioned this in person, but I just wanted to thank you again for all the hard work that went into this track. I'm glad to here that the Director of Fan Tracks is aware of the space issue, I was wondering if we needed to send polite letters of "Thank you for the Alternate History Track but I would like to request a larger room as I missed X panels and/or the Time Traverlers Ball due to space issues." but it sounds like that is already dealt with.

Like many here, I found it beyond impossible to get into seeing any of the panels or the Time-Traveler's Ball. :( Let us know, please, who to email to request a largest room for the track! And a larger ballroom for the ball!

I only made it to one panel, but what a panel! I greatly enjoyed the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen panel and thought it was one of the best run panels that I attended this year. I hope to see it again next year and to make it to more events on this particular track!

More so, I wish they would give the track larger rooms for everything. So many had to miss out on so much. I'd suggest the Sheraton. Huge rooms for everything. Would be the perfect little self contained setting.

Well, the 'powers that be' definitely observed (first-hand, even) that the assigned room and the ballroom for the TTB were both *way* too small, which should make a difference for next year. I did not have a choice on room size; I was given a 'starter' room because this was the first year for the track.

As for the Sheraton, I actually don't want to be there as it's too far away from the rest of the Con. One of the larger rooms in the Marriott would be nice!
