Want to meet fellow fanfiction-lovers? My friend [livejournal.com profile] mosellegreen  is an Atlanta local and a longtime fan and has decided to host a fanfiction meetup party at her house in the Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw this Sunday. There will be a backyard barbeque, dancing and a vid show. Filking is also welcome if desired.

All listed activities are optional, anyone who wishes to avoid any of them is welcome to hang out elsewhere in the house or yard and avail themselves of provided fannish media or impromptu activities. Costumes welcome! Warning: house contains a cat.

Food and drink will be provided, including vegan-friendly soup and salad, but contributions of any variety are welcome.

All flavors of fanfiction fan are welcome, from slash to het to gen from all fandoms. This party is not limited to D*Con attendees - all are welcome, and local fans will be attending. This is not an adults-only party, so if you have children, feel free to bring them along.

Currently taking suggestions of vids for the vid show.

Fans with disabilities - Mosellegreen's backyard, where most of the festivities will be held, is accessible from the street without the use of steps.

RSVP is appreciated but not required. Please, if you have a vehicle, consider offering to carpool other guests, as this house is not convenient to public transport. Mosellegreen will be happy to ferry guests to and from the convention, but only three seats are open, and these are on a first come first served basis.

Festivities will begin at 2:30pm and let out at 6pm on Sunday in order to give everyone plenty of time to get back for the Masquerade.

Please comment or email me at fitzrose @ email.msn.com and you will be provided with an address and contact details. Will be checking email up until Sunday morning, so don't worry if you notice this post a little late.

ETA: Cancelled due to lack of interest. Only got one RSVP

I know I've seen it posted before but can't locate it...so....can anyone tell me where some liquor stores are within driving distance that aren't crazy expensive and have a good selection...and also a Target and Publix?

Any help would be sweet....thanks!

I want to get the full 4-day pass, but I've not yet gone to a Dragon Con and just found out I will have the time off to go all 4 days. Can I still get a 4-day pass, and if so do I go Thursday night or Friday morning to get one?

I have looked at the DCon website, but can not find the hours.

Thanks

I have decided, for various reasons, to cancel my photos with Froggy. I did not see the cancel by date on their site till today. How much luck will I have getting a refund?

Starbucks

Does anyone know for sure off hand if the Starbucks in the Marriott takes gift cards?

Or can someone direct me to a more direct number to ask them myself?

I thought it might help to have my coffee-money rationed.

Hello, world!

In an ongoing effort to increase our Hyatt bar beer money, Play On Con will be offering a discounted pre-registration price of $20 cash (or we can take a check) at our Dragon*Con promo table this weekend. This is for a full weekend pass to our July 2010 event, which is currently $25 online. It will be going up to $30 on Monday, and it will be $45 at the door, so that’s really over half off. We think this provides you with ample incentive to support our most worthy and urgent cause, and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Also: we'll have free candy.

Also also: we'll have snazzy POC T-shirts (like this) available for $10. Proceeds from these sales, however, may be applied to the sailboat bar in the Marriott.

Come and visit us at our promo table in the Hyatt during normal Dealers Room hours!

Hey, gang! This is a repost of my schedule, just 'cause we're actually close to the con and all. :) After missing last year, I'm back at D*C, with five count 'em five sets. The pocket program has most of them listed in Filk, rather than Live Concerts, so I thought I'd put them all here for those who care. :) Remember that the musicians' tables are at the Marriott this year, but all of these performances are at the Hyatt.
  • Friday 8:30 p.m., Intl N
  • Saturday, 7:00 p.m., Awards Banquet, Regency VI-VII
  • Saturday 10:00 p.m., Intl N-South
  • Sunday 3:30 p.m., Concourse Stage
  • Sunday, 7:00 p.m., Regency V
It's a little frustrating that the filk concerts are not automatically lumped in with the live concerts, given that [a] we're not dead and [b] if you don't know to look for 'em, you'd hardly know that such excellent performers as Marc Gunn, Pandora Celtica, and the Bedlam Bards are here. The pocket program has all the Filk information on pages 24 and 25, and I heartily recommend you check us out.

Many thanks, and see you at Dragon*Con!

A few years ago, all the Marvel characters became Marvel zombies by Friday night. Any chance we can get them all wearing Mickey Mouse ears by the end of the night this year?

Dressing Up for Showing it Off
Burlesque and Vintage Costuming Panel at 7 pm, Friday 4th in M103–105.

Dragon*Con Cabaret
Come see Big City Burlesque & Vaudeville at the Dragon*Con Cabaret with Stormy Knight, Scarlett Letter, Cherry Pitx, Jahara Phoenix and more at Midnight, Saturday, 5th at the Hyatt International Ballroom. Be sure to arrive early for the line. The Fire Marshall turned people away last year.

BCB&V and Guests Merch at the Marriott
I'm not exactly sure where, but we're excited about the change of location. I'm hoping we'll have more traffic. We are selling lots of stockings (fishnets, seamed, etc.), burlesque aprons and BCB&V T-shrits. We'll also be auctioning an autographed, multi-photo frame with photos of the girls in their pink ribbons for breast cancer. I am selling three beautiful jewelry pieces (rhinestone/crystal necklaces with matching earrings) and opera length gloves (I think they're 16" to 18" – I looked at the packaging this morning, but I cannot remember now). I'm not sure what else the other girls are bringing. I hear New Orleans Jon has even made his own merch – what he's bringing is a surprise to you and me. We'll have plenty of goods for you to rifle :D

I know that since Nimoy cancelled his panel on Saturday, neither of them will be doing any Q&As that day. But will they both still be meeting fans on the walk of fame? We were planning on coming Saturday so we could see them both, but if that's not possible I'd rather save the money and go sunday, when I know Nimoy has a panel. Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Last time for the big reminder: Georgia prohibits retail alcohol sales on Sunday, including beer and wine!. If you have sunday drinking plans, be sure to stock up before Sunday since you want be able to get any alcohol on Sunday.
(Can still buy drinks in bars and restaurants).

And as usual my own shameless plug: Please visit the folk at the Holistic Design booth...they're the ones who make it possible for me to come to D*C every year...come by and love them with money! I'll be working the booth 1-4 Friday and 10-1 Mon...other times TBD.

And of course will be staggering around at night in the big Guinness hat.

And of course the numbers:

This time in 2008 the community had 3114 members.
Today the community stands at 3860 members!
Increase of about 24%.

Thank you again everyone and have a great Dragoncon!

Hair Help?

Sep. 2nd, 2009 02:09 pm
[identity profile] lilly-rose.livejournal.com
I realize this is cutting it a bit close, but I thought I'd at least try.

Last Spring, I had a (thankfully) benign brain tumor removed. I still have the scar, and it's making it difficult for me to do anything to my own hair. Sooo...

Is there anyone out there who does hair and would be willing to do mine on Saturday morning? Any time before 11:15 is good for me. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price if you so desire. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that looks either vaguely Edwardian or 1940s, keeps the hair out of my face, and lasts through Saturday. E-mail me at LillyElizabeth @ gmail.com if interested to discuss cost, materials I need to provide, location etc.

Thank you!

Hi everyone,

A long time ago, some friends and I came up with a list of DragonCon survival tips for our gaming club. It's been a long time since they saw the light of day, so I thought I would get them out, dust them off and show to you again to make your DC experience a better one.

So, I had some time on my hands today, and went over to the hotels.  I found the walkways between the Hyatt & Mariott (I remembered this from going every year but noticed it now seems easier and shorter than ever after the construction was over.) and the Mariott & Hilton.  If the glass doors to the Mariott from the Food Court are open all weekend, you walk from the Hyatt to the Hilton in less than 5 minutes without going outside.  The new Hilton walkway is awesome!  Anyone wondering, I believe the walkway from the Hyatt to the Mariott leads to the top floor, and then you need go down 2 floors for the walkway to the Hilton.

On a side note, I inquired with the bellhops at the Hyatt and Mariott if I could leave things with them during the con even though I do not have a room there.  I was surprised that they offered this to me without having a room.  So, I was wondering if anyone dropped off and picked up things with the hotel bell staff before.  I've never done it before and wondered what tipping is customary.  Do you tip when you leave things with them, pick things up, or both.  That may decide for me if I can afford to do that or not.

The free iphone and ipod Touch application "livecon" now includes the schedule for Dragoncon. It is available from iTunes here:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=301311093&mt=8

I have quickly looked it over and it looks OK, but there have been changes made since this schedule was first distributed, so please double check with the Daily Dragon and the printed guides before heading out.

A lot of hard work was done by Brendan Ragan, the app writer, to make this happen. He would like to work more closely with the convention organizers in the future, and he can be reached at support@livecon.net
