So the Hyatt is going from volunteers to go to the omni to moving you without any say to the Omni, anyone else getting phone calls like this?

A co-worker of mine just got this call today, moving her from the Hyatt to the Omni, like it or not. Since we're local, she told them to stick their reservation and canceled the whole thing.

We were moved to the Omni but we are going to the Westin. The Hyatt has really messed up big time! I'm done with them! Years of staying with them and this is what we get: passed along to a hotel that isn't comparable.

The Hyatt will be hearing from me and I hope from all of you too. Not just the Regency Atlanta but all kinds of people nationally including the CEO.

My list also includes (but is not limited to) the fallowing people:

Thanks for all those contacts. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and just for added fun I am going to contact the AG in Georgia and the home state of Hyatt. I am also going to try and get the contact info for the CEO & CFO. Do you know if any of the local Atlanta news stations have an "on your side" team?

Are they giving the deposit back at least? Its my fear they dont and use it towards 2012 reservation ie the free night I keep hearing about.

I haven't yet, but you'll hear me if I do. I work in the Hyatt until 4 every morning. No way I'm schlepping all the way to the Omni after that.

FYI double check your reservations. I went online to make sure my reservation was still intact and noticed my room rate is no longer the D*Con has increased to $200. Yet I log into PassKey and see it is stll the con rate. Too weird.

Mine does this too - I hadn't checked the Hyatt site itself before, so it could be that it just doesn't reflect con rate?

I understand why everyone is upset but I don't think complaining is going to do anything. There is nothing that can be helped, the constuction ran late and they are trying to do the best they can under a crappy situation. If it wasn't dragon*con it would be a big deal. I personally think the hotel is doing their best to accomidate everyone. I could be ALOT worse. They could have just said sorry, your room isn't going to be ready and we are canceling your reservation. That happened at one of the overflow hotels 2 years ago.

It's everyone's right to not stay at the Omni and like an earlier poster said the Westin still has some rooms. I also do believe they are giving the deposit back if you choose to not move to the Omni and make reservations else where. But I personally give props to them for going out of their way to help find accommodations. Accommodations in which they lose money.

The issue is that the Hyatt makes ALOT of money off of Dragon*con. So considering that they should be compensating more then they are (like paying for your WHOLE stay at the omni) They should also be considering other hotels. The westin still had rooms why aren't they moving people there instead of half a mile away. It's just CRAZY.

Really not impressed with this, and worrying a little that they'll switch me and I won't know as I live in the UK. I'm not at home during the day to answer the phone (hopefully the time difference will help with that), and everytime they've 'sent' and e-mail, it's never turned up. I can't view the booking online and the passkey site is showing old information anyway.

I too would really like to know when they've moved everyone out so I can stop worrying. I don't want to fly out Wednesday to find myself without a hotel (the Omni is not a suitable replacement by any means).

As of this morning at 10:30AM EST, the Westin is showing up on www.hotwire.com (3.5* Down Town with 90% approval rating) at $81 a night for a double or a quad. This is about as good as it gets. How do I know it's the Westin?

It matches every icon reported on Betterbidding.com, a tool I have been using for many years.
3.5* Westin Peachtree Plaza (previously 4*)
Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Business
http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=641&

It matches the 90% approval rating reported.
http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=128264&

It matches this 3 circle Trip Advisor approval rating as reported just before the booking page of Hotwire, when you click on details. It also has the correct number of reviews on Tripadvisor. Hotwire states the 3 circle tripadvisor rating is based on 500+ reviews. Westin has 503 exactly.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60898-d114387-Reviews-The_Westin_Peachtree_Plaza-Atlanta_Georgia.html

It's also been a widely reported hotel available on hotwire for Dragoncon by the Cheap Hotel Klingon. Here is her blog. This was the last posting on the Westin, but this has been going on all year.
http://xiandesi.livejournal.com/21644.html

The Westin has been reported all year on Hotwire off an on. It matches all the reports exactly, and there are no other hotels in that area that have been reported with those Icons and ratings. The price has also fluctuated all year long.

The thing I don't understand is why they're moving DragonCon people at all. When they were looking for volunteers it was one thing, because they know DragonCon attendees will be back next year and can therefore through in 2012 booking to sweeten the deal. But now that they're moving people against their will, why choose DragonCon people? They always hold back some rooms at non-Con rate, why not move those people first -- the people who *aren't* there for the convention, and who didn't book and pay the first night 11 months in advance. My gut feeling is that it's because DragonCon people pay a lower rate than rack rate bookings, so they want to keep the rack rates and move 100 con rates over to the Omni. Which is total BS. This was *their* mistake, both in the scheduling and delay of the construction and in booking rooms as recently as 6 weeks ago, when they should have *known* they were overbooking. It's their mistake, and good customer service demands that they eat some of the cost for that. They should be moving the rack rates first, and those that booked last first. I get that theres nothing they can do about construction falling behind schedule, but the way they're handling the overbooking leaves a lot to be desired.

Frankly they better hope they don't "randomly" pick my reservation to move. I choose the Hyatt for a reason -- because of my chronic illness, I need somewhere central, quiet, with zero elevator wait that I can return to easily multiple times during the day. The Radius Tower is the only thing that fits that bill. Being moved to the Omni would be a non-starter for me. I might as well stay home. I could make the Westin work, but I'd probably spend a lot more time in my room watching DCTV than I have to now. And I know I'm not the only one with health or mobility issues who books early to get a room that can accommodate my needs. But I'm sure the Hyatt hasn't taken any of that into consideration.

I wish people would use your logic and morals in life, however it's about money ultimately. That is why they choose DragonCon people. They make more money of Rack Rate folks.
Secondly, the reason they chose the OMNI most likely is that is saves them money over the other host hotels that have availability. It's probably cheaper to comp them one night at Omni than Westin, but still using that business decision to throw up their hands and say 'Hey we are throwing you a bone..your reservation has simply been moved'. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We were some of the ones who got the call. We base our whole trip on being in a host hotel because we bring our 10 year old. We need to be able to go back to the room easily to chill out and I'm not totally comfortable walking around downtown Atlanta, during Dragon*Con at night with him. We plan and book in advance to make sure this happens and we don't buy our memberships until we have a host hotel confirmed.

I get that the hotel itself, can't control the renovations, but to offer the Omni as a comparable hotel is not acceptable. I booked in a host hotel and that's what you should offer.

We've booked at the Westin now, not really our first choice, but the Marriott and Hilton weren't available and it will still limit some of the things we can do, but it's closer than the Omni. It's definitely going to be a more low-key Dragon*Con for us this year.

I will not book the Hyatt ever again, in Atlanta or elsewhere.

I will not book the Hyatt ever again, in Atlanta or elsewhere.

This. A thousand times, this. You can bet your boots not only will my husband and I never give money to the Hyatt again, ever, but all of our friends, family, coworkers and internet friends will hear about this. Heck, I have personal problems with the Marriott in Atlanta, but having stayed at Marriott's elsewhere I know it's a local problem but don't have issues with the chain itself. This, though? This blatant disregard for some seriously loyal customers? No.

And they had at least some control over the construction. They could have started it sooner. They could have stressed that the guest rooms were more important then the bar. They could have told people MUCH SOONER when they had a hint this might happen. They could have sweetened the pot to entice the construction workers to not only finish on time, but finish early. They could have done a whole lot of things, but they haven't. Have they even apologized to anyone yet?

One more reason to be glad we aren't coming to DragonCon any more. We usually stay in the Hyatt. Wondering if there are any football fans with reservations, and if so, whether they are bumping them or not?

Just got off the phone with the Hyatt, and the woman at the desk assured me that no one was moved against their will and that only volunteers were relocated to the Omni.

That contradicts some stuff in this thread, so I don't know if there was miscommunication somewhere or if she just didn't know what she was talking about, but that's what I was told.

Hey guys, just to make sure people are clear on this. I'm in the room with JoshtheStampede. I checked the reservation online - all good. He was paranoid and called - all good and 'we aren't forcing people'. LITERALLY FIVE MINUTES LATER I got a call from someone at the Hyatt telling me (polity) 'Fuck you and your 11 month old reservation.'

Long story short, you won't know until they call you and they're still making those calls as of 1:30 today. Have fun!

Just spoke with Janice at the Hyatt front desk, who said that she can't confirm who will or won't be asked to move, but she *thinks* they might be done calling people. I asked her to put a note on my reservation that moving to the Omni would not be possible for me, because of my health issues, but somehow I don't think that'll make any difference if my number comes up.

I have some friends staying at the Hilton this year, so I might check out the elevator situation over there for comparison. I love the Radius Tower, but Hyatt's mismanagement of this whole situation really makes me think twice about ever booking with them again.

If this is the 800 number, it's an international front desk, and they have no idea what is going on. I spoke to a woman who said the same thing, that she THINKS they're done calling, and my reservation was probably safe.

Then I called the hotel itself, and was told the same thing. And we still got moved.

Melia room for 5 nights at $500.

From: [identity profile] richardlt.livejournal.com
For those who get bumped, and who can't get the Westin, I have a room at the Melia I'm trying to get rid off for BELOW con rate. If you're going to have to stay at an overflow hotel, don't pay con rate!

I obtained a room through Hotwire at the Melia for 5 nights for $500 total (that already includes all fees and taxes). Check-in is Thursday, September 1; check-out is Tuesday, September 6. Even if you're only staying 4 nights, it's still cheaper than the official DC discounted rate ($139 per night X 4 = $556), and cheaper than the con rate for 3 nights at the host hotels ($180 per night X 3 = $540). (And none of those con rates include taxes and other fees.) For more information, please see this LJ roomshare link:
