some newbie questions
Registration -- I haven't bought my membership yet. I've heard some horror stories about lines and I know I'll arrive too late on Thursday to pick it up then. Do you think it will be faster to pre-register or to buy my membership at the door on Friday morning? Also, does Dragon*Con sell out?
Parade -- I know I have to sign up in advance if I want to walk in the parade, but do I have to sign up in a group? I'm not sure yet which costume I'll be wearing for Saturday. Should I just register individually, then look for people wearing costumes from the same fandom?
Also -- does the consuite have a microwave and/or hot water available? I'll be at a hotel too far away to go back and forth for meals, but I want to avoid paying too much for food, so I'm planning on bringing stuff in and am trying to decide what sort of groceries to pack.
I've read several of the first-timer guides, but any other info you think would be helpful would still be appreciated. Thanks!

Desperate author needs dealer table space
I am Angelia Sparrow, author and a panelist on the AltHistory track. To make a long story short, the usual dealer plans for D*C have fallen through.
I need to find someone willing to host five books, two with steampunk content, 4 of them GLBT focused, for a commission/flat fee and booth help over the weekend.
The titles are:
The Curse of the Pharaoh's Manicurists
Alive on the Inside
Howl at the Mistletoe
Ellora's Cavemen: Flavors of Ecstasy III (steampunk content)
Shell-Shocked
I have two other titles I would like to have out, Nikolai and Niko-chan, but they are optional.
Help me, Dragon Con Community. You're my last hope.

Hyatt Space Available!!!
He has room for two at the Hyatt. I think check-in is on Thurs and check-out is on Monday. Male or female is fine. :)
Turns out my boyfriend and I had two room bookings and we need to give this one up. Alas, I'd feel like a douche to put people in tough spots so I'm passing this on to whoever wants it (obviously you'd have to pay for it).
If interested, please let me know here or email me at msmarvelgirl(at)gmail(dot)com so I can give you more details and put you in touch with my friend.

parking
I've heard in the past people talk about reasonable parking at dragoncon but wanted to see if anyone has any tips on where to park... not really looking at paying 30/day for parking at the hotels... Thanks in advance
Questions! =)
Firstly, me and my friend are driving up on Friday evening from Tampa (yeah I know its late but we can't get out of work). I know by the time we get into Atlanta its going to be too late to do anything, but I was wondering how early we should line up to pick up our badges on Saturday (we both prepaid).
Secondly, I reallyyy have my heart set on meeting Morena Baccarin (there are obviously other guests I'd like to meet too but she is my favorite actress ever). I know she's been at the con previous years so does anyone know if she usually does autograph signings? And does she allow pictures? Feel free to share your experiences haha.
Thirdly, this is kind of a stretch but if anyone else is coming/wants to come from the Tampa area we do still have room in the car for 2-3 more people. If you'd like to tag along let me know and I'll give you more info. You'd just have to be cool with getting there kinda late and helping out with gas $. ^.^

I have an idea....need help/suggestions.
I had a bit of a brainstorm for something I'd like to try and do for D*C. I'd love to do it for this year, because it's very timely, but there's obviously not much time to pull things together at this late date.
Here it is. For those who pay attention to this stuff, there have been Free Clinics held at various cities around the country. They're organized and run by the Naitonal Association of Free Clinics, and are entirely funded through the donation of money, supplies, and volunteers who staff the events. At each free clinic event that's been held, they see thousands of people, many of whom have not been able to see a doctor in years, and come from all across the economic and demographic spectrum.
I was watching again last night as they just held another such event in Washington D.C. where thousands lined up for hours just to get in and hundreds had to be turned away at the end of the day.
I'm very fortunate in that I have a decent paying, fulltime job, and I have health insurance. But I have friends and relatives who have had to go without health insurance for years, and have been brought nearly to financial ruin because of an illness, a car accident, or many other reasons.
I would really like to see if there is anything that I might be able to put together to do some fundraising for this organization at D*C this year. Our geekdom and fandom populace is some of the most generous I've ever known, and I think it could be well worth making the effort. I suppose my thoughts are that I could do something as simple as a table looking for donations, but would love to see if I could even do something more elaborate involving con guests who might volunteer a half hour of their time to do autographs in exchange for reasonable donations to the free clinic events.
Could anyone give me some suggestions as to how I might be able to make this happen?
Thanks to everyone in advance for your assistance.

Last Call for D*C PARADE Pre-con Sign Ups!!!
Every member of Dragon*Con is welcome to participate and show off those incredible costumes and crowd pleasing talents. Don't worry if you aren't part of an organized group - same fandom costumes march together in the same parade section. This is a great way to make friends, btw. And, as a special bonus, you get a nifty ribbon to affix to your badge that says you participated!
We ask that you sign-up before the con starts. Actually, we ask that you sign-up by AUGUST 20. :) And how do you do that? Easy!
- Use the email webform in the "Contact Us" section of the Dragon*Con web site (www.dragoncon..org)
Use the pull down menu and find "Parade." - Email us directly at dc_parade(at)dragoncon(dot)org or
- Join our Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dc_parade/ and use the handy database form found there.

question about buying badge on Friday
As I posted earlier, this year I will only be able to attend on Friday. But it's better than not going at all. I did not pre reg this year so I have to buy my badge on Friday. Every time I got a badge on Friday I had done a pre registration so I never paid attention to the line. I know one year I arrived saturday and did not pre reg and I waited hours in line. How bad is the line on Friday? I am arriving at the airport around 745 am and will take MARTA to the con. Thanks in advance. Any tips for just one day at DC? I am usually there at least 2,

2. How do you get a membership? We can't get there until Friday night because of work.

DragonCon Board Gaming
I am very new to posting here on LiveJournal so forgive me if I come across a little boorish :)
I am the director of boardgaming at DragonCon. We sit down in the basement of the Hilton with our strange games. I just wanted to let everyone know a couple of things:
- Once again Dragon Con is offering an all weekend boardgaming pass for $5. This pass will allow you to check out games from the Dragon Con Library and play with your friends or you can get in on a game and make new friends. Boardgames is open starting at 9 AM on Friday and we don't close until Noon on Monday.
- DragonCon is also pleased to be hosting a North American Catan Championship Qualifier this year. The winner of this qualifier gets a trip to GenCon Indy in 2011
