Questions! =)

Hellooo everybody! This is my 1st year going to Dragoncon (well any con for that matter) and I had a few questions.

Firstly, me and my friend are driving up on Friday evening from Tampa (yeah I know its late but we can't get out of work). I know by the time we get into Atlanta its going to be too late to do anything, but I was wondering how early we should line up to pick up our badges on Saturday (we both prepaid).

Secondly, I reallyyy have my heart set on meeting Morena Baccarin (there are obviously other guests I'd like to meet too but she is my favorite actress ever). I know she's been at the con previous years so does anyone know if she usually does autograph signings? And does she allow pictures? Feel free to share your experiences haha.

Thirdly, this is kind of a stretch but if anyone else is coming/wants to come from the Tampa area we do still have room in the car for 2-3 more people. If you'd like to tag along let me know and I'll give you more info. You'd just have to be cool with getting there kinda late and helping out with gas $. ^.^

1) Get tp the Sheraton as soon as you can. The lines are loooooong

2) Yeah, she does autographs, where she'll be in the Walk of Fame, we'll have to see when you get up there.

Really like her Black Canary from the Justice League Unlimited animated series.

Friday: Even if you won't have a badge until Saturday, you can still roam the common areas on Friday. In fact, take that time to get familiar with the layout and go costume watching. It will be one of the highlights for you! And on Saturday, as soon as it opens (which is 8am according to the main FB page). The sooner you get it, the sooner you can go to the official events.

Morena: When I met her in '08, she did autographs for (I think) $20. But that price may have gone up since she's more popular thanks to V. At the time, she also did photographs at her table with your camera for the same price. Not sure if she'll do that still because of the Froggy deal, but some guests do both. Aside from her photo-op time with Froggy and her Stargate/V/Firefly panels, she'll be in the Walk of Fame for the most part.

Each celebrity has their own line. You have to walk around the tables to figure out which is which. I'm pretty sure they'll let you line up ahead of time if the celeb isn't there yet.

Mildly off-topic but does anyone get a kick out of how James Marsters seems to always charge the most for his photo ops?

[identity profile] majorsamfan.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Patrick Stewart was $200 last year - and both Nimoy & Shatner were $80 each ($160 together). I think Sir Patrick wins the competition!

[identity profile] iblamemovies.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
But, but... It's Patrick Stewart! 200 is high for anyone really, but I just get a smile at the 60 for James Marsters when there are actors coming that are, you know, working regularly or have been in just as iconic roles or series that are half that.

lol yeah, but that's not his fault, it's his manager's. And to be completely honest, while it's really the only thing I'll be able to spend at the con this year, it's so worth it. He doesn't just smile at the camera - in the few seconds before froggy shoos you away he'll give you a hug or whatever else...eh doesn't sound like much, but you can really see how he feels about his fans. So for me it's worth it.

(I do get one hell of a kick though that stan lee's only charging $40)

I thought 60 was too much the first time I went. Thought I would regret it. But he makes you his focus for that short time. If you ask for a cuddle shot he will wrap his arms around you & then after the photo will give you a tight squeeze. I floated away afterwards. And I have to say, the best photo I have ever taken. Go check out the photos when they are laying on the tables waiting for pickup. Even people who you can tell don't photograph well normally look radiant & happy in his pics. Better than the "don't talk & don't touch" the celebrities attitude that some have. Oh & he is going to be starring as the villain in the new Hawaii 5-0.

the photo ops seem to get more expensive every year. Also less guests do pictures at their tables

pre-reg pickup on Sat.

[identity profile] meinken.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
There should be absolutly no line in pre-reg on Sat. 50% of the folks pick up their badge on Thurs, and 49% by Friday. By the time Sat gets here the pre-reg area is a ghost town. So you should be able to walkin and out in minutes.

Re: pre-reg pickup on Sat.

[identity profile] meinken.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
and it has always been my contention that even if you can only come to the con for 2 days, if you buy your badge at the previous years registration at half price($50 at last years con for this one), you've paid the same or less as 2 one day badges, you don't have to wait in line after Fri. to pick up your badge. Normal Sat and Sun on site lines run 2-3+ hours each day. If you're comming for only one day, its still only about 15-20 dollars more for the 4 day badge for next year, and that 15-20 buys you hours less of lines.

[identity profile] bonzoid.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
The Saturday pre-reg line will be very quick. The Pre-reg line is the longest on Thursday night (no loss as nothing really is going on and you get to meet and talk with folks) and Friday morning. After that you should be able to breeze in and breeze out.

[identity profile] sffilk.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who has picked up a badge on Saturday, allow me to suggest you get in line NLT 6:30 AM, unless you want to wait a few hours for your badge.

[identity profile] meinken.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I presume you are talking about paying for the badge on Sat. Yes, Sat onsite is the longest wait of the weekend. However, the OP said that he had already paid for his badge. Pre-reg is empty on Sat.

my apologies.

Morena Baccarin

[identity profile] ladygolden.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she is part of a group that you pay for the autograph right outside of the autograph room. I bought a ticket for her autograph & got into a line that was for all the celebrities managed by that group. But they are well organized & when the celebrity has no one in front of them they have a spotter who will call out to see if anyone is getting that person's autograph only. It works well & runs pretty smoothly. I got bumped ahead to her line & then waited a bit for Jewel Staite. I imagine she will be a bit busier this year. Don't remember how much but I don't think it was over 30. That group is conservative & pretty reasonable.

I am from the Tampa area as well, but me and my friend have already got a rental car. Maybe we'll see you up there though! :D We'll be there from Wednesday to Monday :D

Just wanted to shoot you a note, I am driving to d*con from Tampa as well. Not looking for a ride but thought I would say hello, because this will be year 4 of dragoncon for me, and it's always nice to meet/ see others from the same town.
