I am located in Atlanta, Ga and having the worst time finding someone to cut/style my wigs!
A lot of the salons around me will not cut it because of the risk on their end. :(

If you live in the Atlanta area and are or know someone who can cut wigs proficiently, please email me at
jessi.l.reid@gmail.com

EDIT: I got them cut today and they are marvelous! A big THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] the_lady_j for recommending me to her stylist!

I have two questions. ^^

One is....
We can by three day passes at the door right?
My plans were only finalized a few weeks ago so I'd like to be sure. ^^

And number two is...
I'm bringing a riding crop for one of my costumes. Does this have to be peace tied as well?
I didn't see anything in the rules which would say yay or nay.

=^.^=
Thanks!

Someone earlier today asked about tags. I put in several a while back but did a rather bad job of letting community members know. Mea Culpa.

Community tags.

The list was taken from the dragon_con community(thx [livejournal.com profile] dementia and [livejournal.com profile] robio.

Havent used tags very much so not all that familiar with them. Will go back and tag up master list entries and other entries of major interest to the community.

Not sure if I have permissions correct where folk can go back and add tags to their own respective entries. Those who want to tag back their entries let me know if you succeed or not and we'll go from there. I do want to keep the list standardized and not have umpteen variants on the same thing; please adhere to the list. More than happy to add on any nonredundant tags anyone may come up with.

Again, mea culpa for not giving better notice on tags in here.

Thanks everyone.

Groceries?

Hi, will be staying at the Westin Peachtree for Dragon Con. Anyone know of a nearby grocery store and pharmacy?

Thanks much!

I bought a badge from a friend of mine, but the problem is he never got the postcard with his number on it so I have a transfer form with no number. When we get down there will he be able to go to the solutions table with me to get the number and transfer his badge to me?

I wanted to ask what most of th ladies of dragoncon will be wearing with special costumes this year. And I mean back less costumes.
short skirted costumes. The risky ones that if you were normal undies you'd flash everyone. To keep this from happening what
would you wear? I know this sounds stupid but my  Code Geass Kallen costume is going to be riding alittle low to the hips and I'm wondering how I could cover that up? How about black spankies?
Any advice?

okay, i have a question about picking up my significant other's badge for him. i'll have all the requisite paperwork in order to do this, but our last names are at opposite ends of the alphabet (i'm "R" and he's "B").  after picking up my badge, will i have to go aaaaaaallllll the way to the very end of the line to get his badge or will i be allowed to just hop to the back of the "B" line? thanks!

Can anyone advise on handicapped parking at the con location?  Mrs. Animal uses a walker and requires handicapped parking spaces.

Hello,

I bought three ticketmaster tickets for friends, and I am unsure now if they will be able to attend.

Since we would not be picking up their badges and actually registering until we were on-site anyway, would I be able to sell my ticket to someone in line without being flogged?
[identity profile] ceruleanlobster.livejournal.com
On the Daily Dragon, it lists that An Hour in the Firefly Universe (with the very dreamy Fillion and Tudyk) is going to be in Hyatt Regency VI and VII at 2:30 p.m., Friday.

I'm going through the Pocket Program to update the schedule I already had made out. Under the Apocalypse Rising track, Sean Astin is listed as being in the Hyatt Regency VI and VII room discussing Jeremiah (I loved that dang show) also at Friday 2:30 (Meet Mr. Smith).

I've looked at it like five times. Am I missing anything? Does anyone know which one is going to be where?

Tank you very much,

I've seen a few questions come up recently about peace-tying and the con weapons policy, and it occurred to me that since I'm actually doing a military sci-fi costume for the first time, I ought to know about things like this.

I know how to peace-tie a dagger or sword in its sheath, but guns are a new one for me. I picked up this little plastic doodad at the dollar store and spray-painted it silver, so there's no way it's a working gun, but I know from a distance appearances can be deceiving. Can anyone tell me if I need to do anything to this to set Security's mind at ease?

So I never got my fabled Yellow Postcard. This is my first D*C, so I must ask: What should I do? I seem to recall there being some sort of backup plan involving waiting in a long line. Is this going to suck?

Looking through the pocket program I noticed that after being banned from a concourse performace last year by the fire marshalls, he's actually got 2 performances this year. (Saturday night & Sunday night). Great news considering I'm a bit underwhelmed by a lot of the musical choices this year; although to be fair any year without The Last Dance is a dissapointing selection for me.

I am looking to sell my two 4 day memberships to Dragoncon. I got West Nile Virus and am too sick to go. I am selling them on ebay. The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=190246034156

I'm askin $120 for the pair. There is a $20 per tix fee for transfer but at that price it would still be less than the door price and you wouldn't have to wait in the crazy long line that my husband and I did last year.

Thanks

I just wanted to remind everyone that myself and a team of three other film students will be filming a documentary at Dragon*Con this year.  My first post got a lot of really positive responses, and I'm very thankful for that.  But there's room for more.  We are keen to get as much footage as possible, and we're still trying to determine our itinerary so don't hesitate to suggest friends of yours we might want to interview or events we shouldn't miss.  You can contact me by leaving a comment on this post, or you can visit my blog (http://dragoncondoc.livejournal.com/) to find out a little more information on what we're planning.  A big part of the documentary will focus on costuming, but costumes aren't a requirement.  If you have some great Dragon*Con stories, please don't be shy.  And if you responded to my earlier post but you haven't heard from me, comment again please.  I don't want to miss anybody.  Thanks for reading this.  And I hope to see you at Dragon*Con.

>.< I'm looking for a party that I attended last year. I can't remember the name but I want to attend this year..one problem, I only know that it was in the Hyatt last year!

I think it was either a Babylon 5 or Battlestar Colonial Fleet party?? There was a giveaway for a nifty light saber and there was also a "Best Chest" contest ... >.< Does anyone know which party it may have been and if it's going on this year as well?

Thanks

I have a friend of mine that is wig-hunting for her costume...one of the Kingdom Hearts characters, i believe.

Any good place, either in marietta or in atlanta that sells wigs at a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance.

Some people I know are doing costumes from The Warriors. I've seen some people wearing Baseball Furies costumes before, anybody know those guys and if they are coming? Would be good to co-ordinate things.

Gail Kim

My huband loves wrestling, TNA in particular. So he asked me today if Gail Kim was still coming to Dragon*Con, and I said that I thought so.

The reason he asked was that it seems like she is no longer in TNA - apparently her picture and bio is off the TNA website.

Does anyone know if this development will affect her coming to Dragon*Con??

Is there any word on if there are guest panels where photography is prohibited? I've been to panels in the past with guests managed by JCB that have not allowed photography or video recording of the panel. I would prefer to skip any guest panel where photography is prohibited.
[identity profile] stigmund.livejournal.com
I apologize if this was ever addressed before, but I haven't see it mentioned at this point:

Dragon*Con is replaying a good deal of its high-profile panels this year at different times so that we can make sure to maximize our con-going experience. For this I applaud them greatly.

However, I have a question that hopefully somebody on staff can answer for me (perhaps even the DC*TV people can address this): If these panels are being recorded for rebroadcast, will they eventually be available for purchase/download/etc. during or after the con? I ask, because even with the replays, I'm STILL bogged down with soooo many good panels this year. Thus, I am hoping I can alleviate some pressure by skipping over some panels I know I can view at a later date.

I have seen some tracks occasionally do this in the past, so I am assuming it's not entirely against D*C policy nor something totally objected to by the guests.

If it just turns out that D*C hasn't considered it, I would greatly encourage them looking into it, as it may become another viable source of income.

Thanks for any information!

Another thing I've never done is troll the Walk of Fame for photographs. I didn't see a schedule of who'd be there when listed in the pocket program. Did I miss it? Or does such a thing not exist?
[identity profile] craftypug.livejournal.com
Never having done the professional photo route at DragonCon before, I'm thinking about it for a couple of the guests this year. From previous comments I've seen, Froggy's work is very good. I'm curious about who he is. There were rumors a couple of years ago that Julie Caitlin Brown's husband was taking professional photos. Is this the same guy? Different people totally?

If I'm going to pay that kind of money, I'd like to know who it is going to. :-) Other than the guests. One would think they get a cut.

thanks!!

I've just been informed that next Thursday night is going to be parent conference night at the school where I work (so not happy). Can my boyfriend pick up my badge with his if I give him my ID? Anyone know?

(Yes, another costume group-photo call!)

Sunday Aug 31
2 pm
Marriott 10th Floor

It was suggested last year that the Sparrows try to all be in the same place at the same time. Since I’m doing the costume this year, I figured I’d go ahead and organize it. Any and all variations of Jack Sparrow welcome! (And everyone else too, for that matter. My Norrington will be managing the camera for me. )

Rumor has it that the 10th floor will be accessible, even if you have to take the stairs from the 9th or 11th floors.

See you there, mates. And don’t forget the rum!

Masquerade

Suppose there is a band. This band is very popular. The band begged for months to play DragonCon. So popular that a few months ago
they were scheduled to play the sold-out 3500 seat Tabernacle, and had
to move to Masquerade due to Tornado damage. So popular a band, fans
camped out all day, and the crowd outside that could not get in that
night equaled the indoor crown. The act was so popular they could have
done two shows.

Now, imagine when the fans of this band hear they are playing a 'free
show' at DragonCon? Well, they plunk down $40 (just slightly more than
they would pay for a concert ticket), and head straight to the
ballroom where the band is playing, and camp out all day.

All Day.

We are talking thousands. Then, of course, after the show they all get
to roam the halls and hit the parties and all that free booze, mock
the costumers, etc...

Now, lets say you are a fan of this band and you have a 4 day pass.
You decide to allocate an hour to stand in line at this free concert,
only to be met with pandemonium.

Think of the security nightmare of non-congoers clashing with the
hoards of con folk. One timers who may or may not trash the place, not
caring about the damage done to the Con in general because of a few
hundred wild drunks who could give two sh*ts about the reputation of
the con.

Can anyone think of a band that is playing the Con on Sunday that fits
this description? Can anyone imagine such a scenario?

And this, IMHO very real scenario is the reason why DragonCon should
only sell 4 day passes.

ETA: oh please, my youthful groupies, quit with the 'elist' accusations. Look at it from a safety standpoint. Anyone want to argue that DragonCon is a safe one, given that there was a rumored 62,000 badges issues last year? I am not the only one to discuss safety and excessive numbers.

(forwarded for a friend on another forum)

Over the last nine years, the Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pageant has become one of
Dragon*Con's most well-known, best-attended and highly anticipated events. It has
drawn thousands of fans and received worldwide press coverage, including several
nationally circulated magazines.

For 2008, I'm pleased to announce that our celebrity judges will include Dominic Keating
(Star Trek: Enterprise's Malcolm Reed), Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager's Neelix) and the
world's most famous Klingon, Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation's Worf, Son of
Mogh). Additional judges include James Cawley (Star Trek: New Voyages' Captain Kirk) and
Miss America Organization certified judge Autumn-Skye Boothe.

With less than two weeks to go before this year's Dragon*Con, we have only five
contestants registered to compete in the tenth annual Miss Klingon Empire Beauty
Pageant. Given the fame of this event, the celebrity judges confirmed for this year, the
certainty of high-profile press coverage (Time Magazine, for one) and the $500 worth of
prizes that are awarded to the winner, this is a disappointing number.
