Voltaire back on the concourse

Looking through the pocket program I noticed that after being banned from a concourse performace last year by the fire marshalls, he's actually got 2 performances this year. (Saturday night & Sunday night). Great news considering I'm a bit underwhelmed by a lot of the musical choices this year; although to be fair any year without The Last Dance is a dissapointing selection for me.

Underwhelmed... ?

Normally there are what, 3 or 4 musical performances from a pretty narrow genre, and this year there are 22 bands and 3 DJs listed on the guest list. If you can't find something to distract you, you're trying too hard to be put off by the Last Dance's non-appearance.

Well, I could have been more specific. I was really only talking about the "main" bands, of which their are only 13. I love Emerald Rose, Three Quarter Ale, & the bards, and I expect anything having to do with Paul Mercer to be outstanding. And last year out of 13 their were 9 that I would consider top tier artists, this year their only 4(again, just my personal opinion, there's going to be plenty of people who love what I hate and hate what I love). Also, to be honest if anything I see slightly less musical diversity this year than last year(but only because of the metal bands in 07). Besides, I'll be plenty distracted, it just won't be by the music.

I am not really a fan of any of the bands, but I do enjoy the shows that I do see. There were metal bands last year? Man, it amazes me what a person can miss... Must have been scheduled against one of the movies in the film fest I wanted to see, or during a can't miss science panel or something.

I'll let you discount all the filk singers and the comedy acts, but outside of that, and the metal bands, aren't nearly all of the same bands from last year back again?

Actually, only the Cruxshadows and Voltaire were at the con last year, well and the Cemetery Surfers who weren't bad but they're not in the same league as the other bands. Last year, TLD, Bella Morte, Serpenteens, Calabrese, Ghoultown all amazing bands(and like I said someone that I'm not excited about right now could end up blowing me away). And don't feel too bad about missing the metal bands, they did a horrible job of promoting themselves so I honestly don't think a lot of people did know they were there.

OMG i know how you feel about THe Last Dance. Heck, i have them tattooed on my left arm.

I'm probably going to skip MSI at the con, I'm going to see them in Birmingham in October after some friends of mine start opening for them. I'm also a little aggravated with the way they're handling things(although I'm fairly certain the blame lies with someone other than the band). They're playing in North Carolina on Saturday night, which means they won't even be getting to Atlanta until the day of their show. I expect my Dragoncon bands to be AT Dragoncon. Same reason I ended up skipping the metal bands last year, and yes I realize how dumb that sounds if you don't feel the same way about it that I do.

I am looking forward to seeing Ego Likeness and Abney Park again, and Psycho Charger sounds like a band I'm absolutely going to love. Most of the rest, I don't have anything against them I'm just pretty much apathetic(a couple of them I can't even find anything on so I could end up loving them, I don't know yet).

ITA. I'm not huge into the who goth band deal (which is what it seems like most of the D*C bands are), but I do love The Last Dance and do NOT love Cruxshadows. So, I usually check out the list of bands for D*C and listen to some of their stuff before I get there. I didn't really find anything that sounded good enough for me to bother with this year. Meh.

I'm looking forward to Hellblinki Sextet. They're an amazing live band, and super nice people as well. Their live show is completely different than their recorded stuff. Both good, just very different. Not exactly the same, but if anyone likes Voltaire, I believe there is a good chance they'll like these guys.

Ego Likeness will be cool!

I am excited about seeing Ego Likeness this year! They played a couple of years ago and blew me away. I really enjoy their new cd and having more female representation in the music will be refreshing! Hellblinki Sextet sounds intriguing too since they sound like Tim Burton movie songs. I always enjoy Voltaire's wickedly funny songs and Cruxshadows always puts on a stage show with danceable, melodic mix of songs. I have never seen Mindless Self Indulgence, so I'm looking forward to their show too. The huge numbers of Gothic people attending the Dark Fantasy Track will enjoy the music this year. I used to live in Atlanta, but I'll be flying in from Houston this year. I am so excited and can't wait! It's always a blast!
