On the same note, if you've in a scooter or wheelchair, recognize that it is not your god given right to go everywhere FIRST. You can wait to move through croweded areas like the rest of us.
If I find the 300 lb cow on a motorized scooter than ran over my foot in the Mariott 2 years ago, I will bitch slap you into next week and crash your scooter for good measure. (trust me, after my scream, she just barreled through the crowd.)
I'm sorry, people on scooters with no obvious disability other than obesity... you will never have my sympathy after that. Police your own.
That's all well and good, and I do understand that some people decide they want to play spped racer regardless of humanity around them, but none of us really have an idea about anothers physical impediment.
Sometimes there are accidents and in my line of work I have really learned to 'look' at a situation rather than assuming, not to disrespect you of course.
It's a tricky situation at con. It's courtesy vs logic and safety.
Was the Mariott (hotel in middle of the 3 main hotels?) under construction at that time? If so, there was not much room for a crowd.
I have used a scooter for the 05 to 08 D-Cons. While I am almost a "300 lb cow" that u mention, I would never intentionally run over anyone's foot on purpose in a crowd unless it happened by accident. If I was the one to run over your foot or anyone else's foot, I apologize and beg your forgiveness for causing you discomfort.
Please do not refer to an overweight person as a cow. There are many contributing factors that may cause someone to gain weight or not be able to loose it. You can use a search engine, consult a medical professional, or read medical journals if you really need to know why some people are heavy. If you are female approaching 50 with orthopedic and immune system health problems, it can be very hard to not gain weight and loose what one has gained.
I will not be attending this year's D-Con for several reasons, primarily financial, health, and the fact that my lover has been missing since September 28, 2008. He is known on LJ as Notnormal or Ben Lott. No physical evidence has been found anywhere. Many people at Dragon Con knew him from the beautiful face painting done by Marrus on him. If anyone at Dragon Con knows anything, or sees him, tell him to at least contact me or a family member to let us know he is alive or notify legal authorities.
One other thing regarding scooter use. It is not free. I had to rent mine for several hundred bucks. Despite the commercials that claim your medical insurance will pay for it, mine did not. Most people need the scooter or w/c to be independently mobile without lots of discomfort or pain. I have a right to be in any public place with any adaptive device helping me to be more mobile. Should I give up convention going just because I have been ill. Or should I lay down and die like a dog. I do not know who you are PKTAXWENCH! BUT someday you or a family member could be sick or disabled too. Please grow up and realize that Dragon Con is a crowded place that you freely chose to go to and YES! one's foot might get stepped on. You might be bumped into. Please accept the risk you freely engage in when you are in a crowded place. I do when I leave my home. I was knocked over in the street at a crosswalk going for lunch due to a crowded situation. My fall was dealt with, and I enjoyed the con. I hope yu do do this year, also! Lisa
