Now that the dust has settled a bit, this is a follow-up to zarathud's post on running at Dragon*Con. I'm curious to see how many people braved the heat, humidity, and hills of Atlanta over the weekend, and who might like to get together to run next year. While I wasn't able to meet up with anyone through LJ this time around, on Monday morning I asked someone who was heading out for a run if I could join him, so I did get at least one D*Con running partner.
I would head up to Piedmont Park and around midtown Atlanta, doing 4 to 6 miles a day on Thursday, Friday, and Monday (Saturday and Sunday were just too busy, although I know a group of folks runs the parade route before thing kick off). Doing a half marathon's worth of running over the long weekend is pretty straightforward; it might be a good goal for an informal Dragon*Con running club, maybe even something we could use to benefit a D*C charity. Thoughts?

Date: 2012-09-11 12:00 am (UTC)This year was just plain crazy. I did my runs either really early in the morning (like 5AM) or really late (11PM) in the gym.

Date: 2012-09-11 12:30 am (UTC)I'd love to do one next year with a group, because hopefully by then I'll be heartiter -- at this point I need 8 hours of sleep before a run, which I was not getting at con post-Thursday night, heh.

Date: 2012-09-11 12:48 am (UTC)I walked there in the morning (around 6am), it was about a mile and a half away in Castleberry Hill. Ran the race at 7 and walked back. The only downside was getting stuck in the race foot traffic. I had to cut across the parade to get back to my room at the Marriott.
It was a good time, if they hold it next year then I'll do it again.

Date: 2012-09-12 05:22 pm (UTC)Getting up 30-45 minutes (or more) early when I didn't go to bed until 3 or 4 AM, however, is. Therefore, no running for me at Dragon*Con...lol
