[identity profile] rock-biologist.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] dragoncon_lj_archive

Now that the dust has settled a bit, this is a follow-up to [livejournal.com profile] zarathud's post on running at Dragon*Con.  I'm curious to see how many people braved the heat, humidity, and hills of Atlanta over the weekend, and who might like to get together to run next year.  While I wasn't able to meet up with anyone through LJ this time around, on Monday morning I asked someone who was heading out for a run if I could join him, so I did get at least one D*Con running partner.

I would head up to Piedmont Park and around midtown Atlanta, doing 4 to 6 miles a day on Thursday, Friday, and Monday (Saturday and Sunday were just too busy, although I know a group of folks runs the parade route before thing kick off).  Doing a half marathon's worth of running over the long weekend is pretty straightforward; it might be a good goal for an informal Dragon*Con running club, maybe even something we could use to benefit a D*C charity.  Thoughts?

My husband might be interested, so long as it doesn't interfere with football.

The most I've ever run is 3.5 miles, and I go sloooow, but you never know how next year will shape up. We shall see?

Well, cumulatively, yes. ;)

And we shall see.

Hello, I'm super interested for Thursday and Friday, and usually I can even swing Wed night, if people are there Wed (I know some ppl who are).

This year was just plain crazy. I did my runs either really early in the morning (like 5AM) or really late (11PM) in the gym.

I only had one run during the con, early on Friday, and the 'All Your Base' remix ended up coming up on the random shuffle on my mp3 player for the first time in a longgg time, and it was very con approrpriate and great, a good moment. Also D*C people in the elevator on the way back up to my room asked me how my run was and complimented my nail polish. :)

I'd love to do one next year with a group, because hopefully by then I'll be heartiter -- at this point I need 8 hours of sleep before a run, which I was not getting at con post-Thursday night, heh.

Put me down. I don't know if I can run *every* day, but I would participate.I ran last year (2010) and enjoyed running through Atlanta and Olympic Park.

I ended up running the Atlanta 20K on Saturday morning. It was the first year it was held, I'm hoping they make it a regular labor day thing though.

I walked there in the morning (around 6am), it was about a mile and a half away in Castleberry Hill. Ran the race at 7 and walked back. The only downside was getting stuck in the race foot traffic. I had to cut across the parade to get back to my room at the Marriott.

It was a good time, if they hold it next year then I'll do it again.

I'm sorry I didn't manage to catch up with you this year. I'd like to at least try for a Thursday run next year.

I live fairly close to Atlanta and I always run outside, so heat/humidity/hills are no issue for me.

Getting up 30-45 minutes (or more) early when I didn't go to bed until 3 or 4 AM, however, is. Therefore, no running for me at Dragon*Con...lol

I've run it up the flagpole to see if there could be a zombie run right before the parade. Meeting with a wall of silence, alas
