So if you get the shirt and the party pass, the booze at the events will be free?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I am debating trying to get the free pass due to limited funds.. about how many will y'all give out? If I get there like a half hour/hour early to the meet n greet do you think I have a high chance of getting one?

I wouldn't chance trying to get one at the meet and greet. There were a lot of people who left last year without a pass unfortunately. I can't speak for what will be done this year but last year it was a lottery where they drew tickets for the remaining passes.

What is the appeal of the Con*tourage parties versus other late night parties?

The biggest differences for me .... The atmosphere, the camaraderie, the organization that goes into C*T parties.

This will be my 15th year at Dragon*Con, and I swear ... I don't even really bother with any other parties any longer. C*T throws the absolute BEST parties, hands down. I don't want to waste my precious con time attending other lesser quality parties, when I know the C*T ones never disappoint!

This is only my sixth DC. But I agree with abreeskye. I've been to lots of different parties, some DC sanctioned and other room parties. To me you can't beat the Con*Tourage parties. I'm going to put my reasons in list format:

1. Camraderie - The people in these parties are just plain friendly. I've been to a ton of DC parties where you hardly don't get spoken to or you don't feel welcome. At the CT parties, there are plenty of friendly folks who go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

2. Organization - These parties are top notch and planned very well. I think these started 4 years ago and the parties have gotten better and better each year. You can really tell that planning and thought that go into these parties. The amount of work that has to go into this organization and it's activities puts CT over the top.

3. Atmosphere - The decorating, DJs, themes all make these parties stand out from the rest. It's not just a bunch of people standing around in a boring room. Also, it's a 21 and up only crowd with security at the door checking ID's. I've been to too many room parties where there are a bunch of under 21 year olds that keep having to be asked to leave and end up causing problems. Since these parties have been going on I've never seen any problems due to that "one guy or girl" Because of the camraderie that has been built these problems are virtually non existent.

4. Limited attendance - There is a cap to how many people can attend. Space is limited and you have to have a ticket. That means noone just showing up to get free booze or popping in unexpectedly. This is a nice bonus so that you aren't crammed into a tiny little space.

5. They are tons of fun!

I could comment on and on but I'll stop now :)

Regardless of your gender, race, personality whatever, you are welcomed. They just want to have a good time without any trouble and they want you to have a good time too. If you like to party, dance, drink then you'll have a chance to do that. If you just want to sit back, relax and talk then you can do that too because the music is never too loud. Speaking of the music, it is always awesome. They usually have a kick butt DJ. The ambience is great too. Rather it is a rock party or an 80's party, the decorations fit the theme so you never feel like you're walking into just another hotel room/suite. I went to my first con-tourage party with the intent of staying just a few hours and ended up staying the entire time.

Keep in mind the party organizer asked over on Facebook for group members to come over here to answer you, so you're not getting exactly unbiased opinions. ;)

IMO, parties like these that either charge to get in or make you fight over their passes are generally loud, hot, crowded, and serve watered down drinks if you can even make it to the bar. And that's not saying the rest of the con or other parties aren't loud, hot or crowded, but Contourage parties are ridiculously so, and while herded into a suite. On the plus side, they do have excellent decorations! So this is the opinion of someone who has been to their parties in the past, but isn't part of their "in group".

When I went to my first Con-tourage party, I wasn't in their group, but what made me want to be was the fact that they were so welcoming. I didnt think it was too loud or crowded, just maybe a little hot but then again I was drinking a bit and wearing a jacket. :)

I can be shy and the group made me feel comfortable and they weren't uppity, standoffish or pretentious like some con groups (not trying to be rude but that's how I felt as a relatively con newbie who happened to be shy). Anyway, there were plenty of people there dancing and partying but it never felt crowded. Personally, I prefer to relax, people watch or talk. I was able to do that comfortably because the music wasnt too loud. I didnt know many people but random people would come over to talk and they werent rude or pushy and didnt make me feel silly for just sitting on the couch most of the time.

This is just my opinion. I really wanted to share it although it may seem biased. But, it should be noted that most of the people who are part of the so-called "in group" were strangers who attended a Con-tourage party and had a great time. By the way, there really is no "in group" because everyone is welcome.

It's not just a party of folks. Con*tourage is more like a community of costume geeks who love to get together, dance a little, drink a bit more and costume on top of that. I actually met the gang on line several years ago, and THEN went to my first party. Always felt welcome, never threatened (I'm a girl, btw), and it was like going to a friend's place.

I'm probably not doing this justice, but I wanted to chime in. (Not known for being the most literate of posters). Of course, you can visit con-tourage.com and lurk the forums, check out the pictures, and see a little about "what it's all about".

I'm not being skeptical, I was just curious how this party is different from others since a majority of people at DragonCon love costumes and all-things-geeky. :)

I've been going to Dragon*Con for over 10 years now, and I CONcur (haha. sorry, I couldn't resist) that the C*T parties are something awesome. I agree with what has already been said above.

I will also chime in and say that you don't have to be a scantly clad female (I am female, btw), a drunken idiot, or a con celebratie to get invited to these parties like you do with most. Just a con goer that is looking to meet some good people and have a good time.

I've been to many con parties over the years, and have always remembered waiting in line to get into most of them, walking in after waiting for 10-15 mins, and leaving after about 5 mins of being there. I'll stay at C*T parties all night!

Free booze, prizes, contests that revolve around how awesome a person's costume is according to theme...how can you go wrong?

Good grief - t-shirts are already gone!!

I've emailed asking if there are still spots available on suite set-up / takedown crew. I've volunteered at conventions, worked paid event staff at concerts, and am good at asking what else needs to be done and where do we hide the "staff-only" cases of stuff. :) I may be too late to get on the crew this year, but I figured I'd give it a shot. :)
