Looks like the football game in the Georgia Dome on Dragon*Con weekend next year will be Boise St and UGA. Not that anyone should be terribly worried about either of those schools booking Dragon*Con hotels for that weekend. (I can't imagine too many Boise fans travelling to Atlanta... Most UGA fans won't need to travel... and most of our rooms are booked up anyway.)
Just something that might be useful to know for next year...

Date: 2010-11-20 09:01 pm (UTC)Georgia played 3 ranked teams. BSU plays 3.
Boise is undefeated. UGA is not.
In fact, Boise has only lost 1 game in the past 3 years. Only lost 4 games in the past 5 years. They have 3 undefeated seasons in those 5 years(2010,2009, and 2006),which is one more than UGA has *ever* had, and one 1-loss season (2008) Meanwhile, UGA has averaged 4 losses per season over that same span of time. Harder schedule? Sure. But BSU has scheduled games against the BCS "power conferences" in each season during the past 5 years, ACC, Big 12, Pac 10, and now the SEC. They only lost one of those games.
I'm not saying they could run Auburn or Oregon off the field this year (although I think they'd make a game of it in either case), but they deserve their ranking. Don't be shocked if they run Georgia out of the Dome next season.
If you'd like to place a friendly wager on the game... You know where to find me. =D

Date: 2010-11-20 09:33 pm (UTC)They don't have to play against a top 25 team every week but they do have to play against teams that are at least competitive. I don't think they could go undefeated in the ACC or the SEC and the SEC is filled with teams that could destroy the schedule that Boise plays.
Having losses in the SEC is still better than 0 losses against teams that routinely rank near the bottom in offense and defense.
The only reason I have such strong feelings about this is that most BSU fans I've encountered are like Tarheel fans...very vocal about what they think based on forums, Sports Illustrated articles and ESPN and hardly ever based on experience gained from coaching or playing.
Sorry no gambling for me...I can't back UGA anyway - I'd get kicked out of the Ga. Tech alumni association. :o)
