Looks like the football game in the Georgia Dome on Dragon*Con weekend next year will be Boise St and UGA.  Not that anyone should be terribly worried about either of those schools booking Dragon*Con hotels for that weekend. (I can't imagine too many Boise fans travelling to Atlanta... Most UGA fans won't need to travel... and most of our rooms are booked up anyway.)

Just something that might be useful to know for next year...

Actually that’s terrible – Boise St fans will travel and they all seem to have a chip on their shoulder because nobody else believes they’re as great as they think they are. That almost makes me not want to go…if not for it being the 25th anniversary of DC I would pass. Freaking Boise St……great….

I know some Boise fans that are going to be thrilled to hear this.

This is good news. Georgia fans know who we are and probably have attended before and Boise State fans will be dazed and confused.

And most Georgia fans will be traveling directly to and from the game then heading home...

Correct, but not at the levels that an out of state school would have...

This is great! I am going to try and get tickets for the game. I am a big Boise State fan(gotta love the smurf turf) and can attend a great convention and a great football game in the same weekend. It will mean I would miss a good deal of the Saturday festivities at Dcon, but this makes we very happy.

If I get go to the game I will go in my zombie costume. Expose my fellow football fans to some geek culture.

Ooh, my dawgs are going to be playing that weekend? Damn, I hope there aren't any interesting panels on Saturday, 'cause I gotta go to that game (even though we're just playing Boise St)!

"even though we're just playing Boise St"

Just playing Boise? Oklahoma thought that in the Fiesta bowl a few years back and ended up losing.

You shouldn't miss any big panels, the game is at 8PM.

they play (and have played) a joke schedule...until they have to grind out a season against teams that aren't a joke they will never get any respect. The only plus that comes from them being ranked so high right now is that hopefully they finally have to play a quality team and will get destroyed and go away...

Oh great. UGA fans? Really? The same people who left unbagged trash, rotting food, and couldn't follow basic parking instructions. Great. Sorry, I lived in Athens for a while. I do not like UGA fans.

I think plenty of UGA fans will still be traveling. Just Athens is far enough away that anyone coming from there would probably want to stay overnight in Atlanta if they didn't want to spend whatever time they weren't at the game stuck in crowds and traffic. Even average home games for big SEC schools are crazy as far as crowds go(used to live down the street from the stadium at Auburn).

So they have won 4 games against decent opponents in two years while also winning what amounts to scrimmage games against 20 other weak teams? Still not impressed, strength of schedule really determines not only how good your team is but how deep as well. Having to slug through a schedule with QUALITY teams really takes it’s toll on your players. I would be willing to bet if you put UGA, who I’m not a fan of by the way, into Boise’s conference they would run through it as well.

While they did beat Va Tech, they struggled – if they had to face Va Tech level schools for a whole year we wouldn’t even be talking about them.

Only losing one game in 3 years is not that impressive when you consider they have only played quality opponents 3 or 4 times.
They don't have to play against a top 25 team every week but they do have to play against teams that are at least competitive. I don't think they could go undefeated in the ACC or the SEC and the SEC is filled with teams that could destroy the schedule that Boise plays.
Having losses in the SEC is still better than 0 losses against teams that routinely rank near the bottom in offense and defense.
The only reason I have such strong feelings about this is that most BSU fans I've encountered are like Tarheel fans...very vocal about what they think based on forums, Sports Illustrated articles and ESPN and hardly ever based on experience gained from coaching or playing.

Sorry no gambling for me...I can't back UGA anyway - I'd get kicked out of the Ga. Tech alumni association. :o)

With the new security measures that are going to be implimented I'm looking forward to the Con.
It should be interesting to see who actually buys con badges though after seeing the freaks on parade (happens every year, it's awesome)
