Really? Please tell me there is some miraculous way they put the street entrance on the 8th floor of the Westin. (I know, yeah - right.) Just visualizing the lines for the elevator / stairwells. (mentally replaces stairs of death with stairs of the eternal wait.)
Like what has already been mentioned is that from the Peachtree Street level Entrance is actually the 6th floor of the hotel once inside. it's not really that hard for you to enter from a street level and go down. it's just a hole.
the ballroom is 2 floors up from that.
either from the bank of 10 elevators, the 2 dedicated elevators behind those on the left, the 2 square stair towers to either the right or left after you pass the initial bank of rooms upon entry, or the semi-circular glass encased stair case to your right that is behind the square concrete one and before the elevator banks.
The layout of the Westin is about as logical as the five and half minute hallway from "House of Leaves" or that M.C. Escher painting. Do not trust the maps in the pocket program, for everything will change once you step inside. Follow the signs, leave a trail of breadcrumbs and hope for the best.
The Westin Hotel. :) Where the Steampunk and (most of the) Whedon Universe stuff is this year. The Peachtree Ballroom is there too - the exact location should be in the maps of the Westin in the Pocket Program.
Someone helpfully made a Google Map of the area covering all five hotels, MARTA stops and so on, here (http://community.livejournal.com/dragoncon/2507641.html).
For the Peachtree Ballroom, enter the hotel from the entrance on Peachtree Street (across from Hard Rock & Hooters).
(BTW Immediately inside the door, on the left, you will find International D (Whedonverse) and on the right, International C (Alt History).
For the Ballroom, continue down the hall to the elevators, take the elevator to the 8th floor, and proceed to the Ballroom (in the opposite direction from the aforementioned track rooms).
I've never been in the Westin, are there escalators or other methods to get to the ballroom other than elevators (and presumably stairs)? If not, this could be a nightmare trying to move people in/out of that ballroom.
Great, didn't realize the Peachtree entrance was on the 6th floor. I can't imagine getting a lot of people up to the 8th floor from the 1st without issues.
Upon entering from the Peachtree entrance, it is a mere two sets of escalators to the 8th floor. The Peachtree entrance is actually the 6th floor. There are also stairs but not the best for those who suffer from vertigo. And, it is actually two floors above the Peachtree entrance. So when you make it up the elevator/stairs/escalator, come back towards the entrance.
Very welcome! I was very afraid it would be a mess to get people up there until I saw the space, and truly, with all of these options, it will not be that hard at all.
Not a problem! My first time there during the director's meeting to scout the location, I was a bit confused at walking in on the 6th floor at street level. :)
