Is anyone doing a Repo! The Genetic Opera costume for next year. I finally watched it last night (I was in the "it looks really bad" group so I never saw it, but I got bored and watched it, and now I really like it) and I really want to make a Shilo costume for dragon*con. So I was wondering if anyone else was doing a costume for this movie. It would be cool to get a group together for photos or something.

Thanks!

I thought this might be an interesting topic for discussion since we tend to have a fairly diverse crowd of well-educated people who regularly chime in on this LJ:

I've been alive long enough to have lived through a few economic downturns, but young enough to probably not have been cognizant of their direct/indirect impacts when they occurred. With that said, I was curious as to what people's expectations/observations have been in regards to con-going (specifically D*C) during these times. For example:

1. Attendance: Does attendance dramatically change (or is con-going one of those things like beer and cigarettes which tend to stay steadily "consumed" during any economic period [although I have no intention to imply going to Cons is a drug or an addiction; lol].

2. Guests/Panels: Are the general guest pools better or worse, due to celebrities maybe looking for some additional income?

3. Dealers: How is size affected? More or less products? Is it easier or harder to shop for bargains?

4. Security: Anybody noticed/experienced an increase in theft or other petty crimes around the Con? Is the general demeanor of the con as jovial, or is there more hostility?

I guess I'm just curious what other people's experiences have been and if it's warranted to rethink one's approach to certain aspects/expectations of a con in a "bad" year.

P.S. Thanks for humoring my "talkative" nature this week--work's been slow. :)

I am hoping I can afford to get an Eternal Membership this year, but I am not sure yet if I can.  Therefore, I was wondering if I went ahead and pre-registered at the current rate, would that amount be counted toward the $750 of the Eternal if I can purchase that after all?  Or would I have to pay the full $750 even after pre-registering?  I need to know because I would like to get my registration in ASAP, but don't want to pay more than I need to if the Eternal Membership works out.

Thanks!

Please, does ANYBODY know who this lady is? I'd love to use the shot for my book! I think her name is Jen, but I'm not sure...

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on my request for geek/fandom related vocabulary. Between you guys and my own blog, I ended up with over 250 words! I'm not sure yet how this will fit into my final project, but it's delightful to have so much rich material to work with.

Pretty soon, I will be posting a link to a poll about geek culture; I hope some of you will be willing to answer it, and perhaps pass it along to your other geeky friends. :) Coming soon!
