Is anyone doing a Repo! The Genetic Opera costume for next year. I finally watched it last night (I was in the "it looks really bad" group so I never saw it, but I got bored and watched it, and now I really like it) and I really want to make a Shilo costume for dragon*con. So I was wondering if anyone else was doing a costume for this movie. It would be cool to get a group together for photos or something.
Thanks!

Date: 2009-01-30 09:21 pm (UTC)Her costume from the opera (hopefully, complete with contacts)... and I was thinking of doing a Pavi costume...
Both of these will be in the alternate fat-character universe. :-)

Date: 2009-01-31 05:38 am (UTC)Hopefully that won't mess it up too much... I hate being tall sometimes. But hopefully my costume will be good enough, and the people I'm standing next to tall enough that I'll look okay.

Date: 2009-01-31 12:01 am (UTC)My first 'want' is to do a Blind Meg (Her last scene at the opera), but now I see there are going to be a few Blind Meg's walking around so that one can wait for another year. ;o)
My second 'want' is to do a Repo Man (complete with helmet), but then I think "OMG that is gonna be HOT!" And makes me not so much wanna do all that black leather. (Plus I'd have to figure out the whole lighting thing inside the helmet and stuff, and I'm not that smart. LOL)
My third 'want' is to do one of the GENtern nurses, tied with one of Rotti's Henchmen. But to do the Henchmen I'd have to have a partner to do it with. So maybe a GENtern is my best bet.
All of this is of course contingent on if I can figure out which one I'm going to do, within an acceptable amount of time to actually get the costume done in time for Con. Also money is a factor, if there is no cash, then there will be no costume. I'd also need to figure out where to 'plug' the costume into the weekend. As I'm already preparing 3 costumes for the weekend, and would really hate to bump one off or limit it's wearing time to add another costume.
SO which one did you wanna do?

Date: 2009-01-31 12:14 am (UTC)Ohhh! A repo man costume would be awesome! You could probably build a small fan in somewhere... I think of all those people in their many many layers and armor, and they do okay... And a repo man costume would rock. And the lighting shouldn't be too hard, i guess... not sure. hmm..
Yeah, the GENterns are a good, recognizable costume, and they look fairly easy to make too.
HAH. Yeah, I have like 7 costumes on my list... I cut two out for Shilo, namely because it will be cheaper and a whole lot easier to put together. The others will wait a few years, I guess.
I'm officially doing
I already bought the skirt, the undershirt, the wig, and the vest. I just have to mod them a bit (the vest is 12 sizes too big, but it will be easier to mod that way), but I think they will work really well.
I figured they would be easier to buy instead of make, especially for the skirt... there's a lot of fabric in there, and that would get expensive.

Date: 2009-01-31 12:55 am (UTC)Money is really a HUGE factor as to if I'll do any Repo! costumes this year or not.
I've already got 1 costume that is going to cost $100's in prep on just the make-up alone, not to mention the cost of the actual wardrobe. With the money I'm putting into this one, I've given it 2 days of wearing (no worries, there are two wardrobes for it, so I wont stink) for this year's con.
Another costume that is all purchase items, but is nowhere near complete yet and the estimated final cost is $400.
My last costume is the cheapest of the costumes I've chosen for this year, but it too is not going to get done without spending $100.
So again, if I where going to do a Repo! it would probably be Repo Man, and all that leather is NOT cheap, and then I'd have to figure out when I'd be able to wear it. ;o)
I'm not saying it's out of the question, just not looking like it tonight. Tomorrow is a whole other day. ;o)

Date: 2009-01-31 01:02 am (UTC)Oh, yeah. I understand.
o_o that's a lot of money on costumes. Mine are starting to get up there, which is why I'm cutting back on them. What costume is going to be around 400? That sounds elaborate.
Aww. Well, let me know if you decide to do it. We'd love to have a repo-man for a photoshoot. ^.^

Date: 2009-01-31 02:58 am (UTC)And though there where not many people who chimed in to say they are doing a Repo Man costume, I'll bet you that there is at LEAST 5 if not more running around at Con this year. ;o) It's just how it goes.
Yeah this year is a huge money spending year on costumes. I've done a bunch in the past, but they where on the cheap. I've actually budgeted the amounts these costumes will cost. So far I'm staying on budget, but adding another costume can mess with the money.
The $400 one isn't actually as elaborate as one might think, it's just going to be 'screen accurate' which means I've gotta get particular items to make it authentic. Which of course costs money. ;o) The rifle alone is the big money, $200.

Date: 2009-01-31 03:13 am (UTC)Wow.. That's going to be really cool. I love when costumes are screen accurate, but they are hard to pull off. I understand where the cost is coming from then. Its going to be cool. Are the pieces easy to find if you do have the money, or do you have to modify other items to make them?

Date: 2009-01-31 03:41 am (UTC)Items I've already purchased ($203 already spent):
Elbow Pads, Knee Pads, Survival Knife (with blade modified to be Con friendly), BDU Shirt, BDU Pants, BDU Belt, and UnderArmor Shirt. I'd purchased the sidearm in the dealer room at D*C 08, but it's still in the process of being 'finished', as it's an unfinished resin replica.
Items I still need to purchase ($410 still needed):
Dog Tags, Boots, Tactical Belt, Headset, Gloves, Goggles, Helmet, Rifle, Vest, and Sidearm Holster (which needs to be custom made).
Though I've spent plenty of cash on this costume and will spend more before it's all done, it actually isn't the most expensive one for me in 09. ;o)
Again, It's all about budgeting. ;o) I've got exactly $100 to spend on costuming per month, and I've gotta make it all count. ;o)

Date: 2009-01-31 03:44 am (UTC)I'm in college so even with what I'm spending I'm still stretching it thin.. but it's totally worth it. This will only be my second D*C, so I don't have a large quantity of costumes.. Once I build up a stash it will be easier and cheaper to go to cons and to focus on one big costume.

Date: 2009-01-31 03:53 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm not in college, but I've been jobless for the past 9 years, so money is always tight. I've gotten a job recently though, so I might actually get to buy something in the dealer room BEFORE monday morning this year. ;o) LOL
I don't actually have a lot of costumes, since I've only started doing them a couple of years ago, though I didn't do any last year. I just really have a great time and party with my friends.

Date: 2009-01-31 03:56 am (UTC)Hahhaa. Yeah, I only got one thing in the dealers room, and it was a shirt... I really didn't spend much.. this year I'm saving up for spending money. But I understand. ^.^ They have some cool stuff in there.
Yeah, that's the best part... having fun, in or out of costume.
Maybe . . . .
