Sometimes you can also catch them with their booths. I heard people say they got autographs from Sherrilyn Kenyon down there and I got one from Margaret Weis down at hers. You just have to catch them when they're not scheduled for anything else.
The media guests are usually sitting at their table unless they're in a panel. The authors have scheduled signings that will be in the pocket program. A lot of times, they'll be in their booths in the dealer room or exhibit hall when they aren't on a panel or at a scheduled signing. I've seen Sherrilyn Kenyon, and John Ringo, among others at their booths that way.
some booths in the Exhibit and Dealer's room host writers to sign if the writer didn't buy a booth. About the only full time writer that I know on the Walk of Fame is Peter Beagle. The writers are usually given a one hour session in an Autographing area that IN THE PAST has been in the Marriott. Not sure where it will be this year. I will be hosting several writers at my booth in the Exhibit hall but I haven't finalized everyone yet so no announcements. I wait since two writers I spoke to earlier in the year were planning on going but had to cancel do to scheduling conflicts.
At this time Autographs are on the Marquis level in the Marriott. (Just below the lobby level.) They are located behind the Elevators. Yes it is kind of hidden, but there will be signs.
We have a large number of guest and room assignment are subject to change.

Peter David sometimes does autographs in Comic Alley, and will often go to extra lengths for someone who donates to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
Miss Selina Rosen will autograph just about anywhere one can catch her, but she's worth catching after the end of a late-night panel if your tender ears can withstand it!
Definitely for the current NYT-list authors, if you go to one of their scheduled signings, show up more than half an hour early to get in line. On the plus side, you'll have something with you to read! I was in line Monday morning last year for Ms. Hamilton, and we chatted with each other a bit, helped each other up to our collective feet when it was time to move forward, and held place in line for each other when someone needed to run to the restroom. I fully expect the line for Ms. Bujold to be more of the same, this year. (I also spent about a third of my time in line trying to make up my mind what I would say, and rehearsing in my head so I wouldn't go slobbery-fangirl-with-coffee-breath. "Thank you" is good but generic, "thank you for $specific_thing_no_other_author_did which I appreciated because $reflection_in_my_life" is better; I didn't see any reactions I could interpret as "okay, nice kid, clean up slobber and have a nice life".)
