I usually stay at the Marriott, but this year I'll be at the Sheraton.  I'm not familiar with the parking situation at the Sheraton, so hopefully you all can help me out.  I've always understood that the general rule of thumb is to try to get to the con by Thursday afternoon if you're driving, since parking is difficult to find after that (I don't trust the public lots).   But it occurred to me that I don't know if that rule just applies to the Marriott, or to that area of Atlanta in general.  When I was staying at the Marriott, I always got there by noon on Thursday, so I never had any trouble.  But I'm wondering if I need to get there that early if I'm staying at the Sheraton.  Also, can anyone vouch for the security of the non-valet parking at the Sheraton?  The Marriott only had valet parking, but the Sheraton has both.  Thanks!

i self parked there for a small 'con one year--had no problems. (but i did go out and check the car every day and made it look lived in.) had to argue with them about the rate though; they tried to charge me something different than was advertised. but they came around. :)

it's not a very big lot though....

I've read quite a few reviews of the hotel where people complain about the walk to the lot, that it's dark and a bit scary and should only be attempted in daylight or in a group.

? the surface lot is attached to the hotel--2 hotel doors open directly onto it. (and then part of it goes under the new ballroom wing, but that may be all valet.)

that said, it *is* a surface lot, and could probably be better lit... there's not much all behind the lot, and there were some trees hanging over causing some pretty deep shadows so yeah, i guess you might not want to go out there at 3 am by yourself...

Is it the lot between the Hilton and the Sheraton? If so, we usually use that one and have had no problems. However, I think I read here that there was some kind of damage to that parking lot? Something collapsed? So, I'm not sure if it will be even open. Anyone else have any information on this?

Ah, that's good to hear!

I *think* it was $10 a day, but I've got a terrible memory.

Kind of off subject a little, but first time staying at the Hilton and was wonder how the self parking was there? By what time should I arrive Thursday to get a spot? (Trying to save a few bucks off the Valet price since I'm unemployed)

Park at MARTA. $4-7/day, and you usually don't even have to pay if you leave on a holiday.

Where is this MARTA lot?

There are lots at most MARTA stations, but not the downtown ones. Lindbergh station is the most popular choice for D*C.

It's probably safer, since it's a higher parking lot deck. Personally, I don't know. I've only parked there for an afternoon when I went to a class requirement. But I had a beat up piece of crap.

Stayed at the Sheraton last year. We got there Friday afternoon, did the self-parking with no issues at all. Our car was like up on the fifth floor of the garage, but made it through all in one piece, lol. We'll be there on Thursday this year.

What does their parking rate usually go for? I saw where somebody said about $10 a day.

I stayed at the Sheraton in 2006 and parked in their garage. Very Easy
