Hi, all!

First time DC'er and longtime LJ'er here! I'm so happy to have found this group-- I really appreciate all the links and I've been devouring the info... I feel like I'm just getting the hang of it all now. (We're veteran Burners, so if we can handle Burning Man, we can handle this, I hope!)

ATTENTION ALL BANDS AND PERFORMERS!!

The Performance Application is live. We are going to do our best this year to get acts chosen earlier this year - problem in past years is that the applications just kept coming in throughout the year and we have always kept it open to give as many acts the opportunity to put their name in the proverbial hat as possible.

But in fairness to the performers and to our members (who want to know who is playing) we will be locking in the majority performance slots earlier for 2013.

Moral of this story...if you would like to perform at Dragon*Con (especially if you are a band as there are ONLY 11 Main Stage Slots and only about 20 band slots total), the sooner you can get your app in - the better your chances for consideration.

Regarding fan requests:
We truly appreciate fan input but we receive too many requests every year to reach out to all requested acts...so if there is a band that you would like to see play at Dragon*Con it would be much better for all involved if you were to reach out to them yourself via their website or facebook page and ask them directly if they are interested in performing at one of the most insanely fun events on earth!

Link to the online application is here:
http://www.dragoncon.org/dc_performer_app.php

and the link to the performance categories is here:
http://www.dragoncon.org/dc_performer_app_info.php

So bands...Please Apply Early!

And to everyone else...Please Help Us Spread the Word that the Performance App is Live!

Thanks!

I was wandering around YouTube looking for D*C footage and came across this video. Absolutely adored it and wanted to share! They made a 22minute long one as well that shows even more costumes with a great selection of music. Anyone have any other great videos they've found/made that they would want to share here?

Just out of curiosity, did Jonathon Couton actually make an appearance? I have yet to talk to anyone who actually saw him perform, and didn't feel like going across town for the real gig that he booked over the weekend.
It was a real bummer for me since I've been a fan of his for years now (Thanks, DCTV!)

For those who remember the "Raise Your Glass" cosplay vid I posted before the con, someone did a similar vid at D*C this year! Enjoy!

If you were one of the 903 dancers in the "Thriller" World Record Attempt in 2009, this video is for you!

Many apologies in advance to anyone who may feel left out. Please don't. If I could have had all 903 dancing, I would have! That would be a nightmare logistically and in terms of safety. So, what appears to be a random flash mob was actually a very well planned out event with Dragon*Con, Pat Henry (chairman), and Security.
FYI - Flash mobs are NOT allowed at Dragon*Con and will result in your badge being taken away with you being banned form the con. I just wanted to say this because I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. Flash mobs are (sadly, but understandably) NOT ALLOWED.

Hey, all! Just wanted to say Hi, hope you have a safe trip to Atlanta this week, and here are my scheduled concerts for Dragon*Con:
  • Friday 8:30 p.m. - Hyatt International South Ballroom
  • Saturday 7:00 p.m. -- Hyatt International South Ballroom
  • Sunday 11:00 a.m. - Hyatt Concourse Stage
  • Sunday 8:30 p.m. - Hyatt International North Ballroom
This schedule is subject to change, and I'm also unofficially on a Babylon 5 panel sometime Sunday. I'll have more updates here, at my own LJ, and at my musicians' table over at the Marriott. Hope to see you there!

I just noticed on Jonathan Coulton's website that he is playing a full concert across town from the con on Friday night. Does anyone know if he will be doing a full show at the con, or just the one guest appearance during Gonzo? I was really hoping to see him in concert, but I can't justify breaking our "no moving the car" once we get parked rule to go gallivanting across Atlanta missing part of a "prime" night at the con... I'm super excited that he is going to be at the con, either way, but I'd LOVE the atmosphere of a full concert!!! :-)

As some of you know, one of our dancers (Noel Howell) from 2009 passed away. We are doing something special at Dragon*Con 2011 in her memory and I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in helping out.

This is a top secret mission and there's only room for a a few dozen special people. If you did not perform with us, this mission may not be for you. We seek only those who still vaguely remember the dance, who will gladly refresh their memory to pick it back up, and who will not be afraid to be a little silly in a public space. =) If you would be the right candidate for such an event, email me LaurenLeasure(at)gmail(dot)com

I will quickly respond with details on how to be a part of this special event. =)

Lots of Love,

Lauren

I'm looking forward to seeing Voltaire this year but I don't know if I'll need to line up in advance to get in. Can somebody advise on the popularity of the big named performers like Voltaire and Cruxshadows and how early we should get there? I'm also curious about how early I should plan to arrive to events like The Yule Ball in order to get in?

Thanks

Hey all!

My friends and I are going to be in the parade this year. We really want to play music for the crowds, but it has to be something portable and carry-able for one person to tote throughout the parade. And, of course, we want to have it loud enough for the crowds on the street to be able to hear it in the general vicinity.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to play music in the parade if you don't have a float/car? We'd prefer something not crazy expensive, if at all possible.

Thanks in advance!

I've been attending Dragoncon for many years (this year will be my 13th), and I've always had a burning question on my mind - how does the con decide on its performers? Obviously some of them request it, but do some people on the staff actually seek out performers for concerts and whatnot?

I only ask because several years ago my friends and I were discussing the bands we've seen at Dragoncon and I couldn't help but wonder - <i>why hasn't Coheed And Cambria ever played there?</i> I am dead serious. I couldn't think of a more perfect band to play there. They have comic books, action figures, all their songs are inspired by a sci-fi storyline that Claudio writes... I just can't think of a more perfect fit. Every year I sort of hold out hope maybe it'll be done, but so far it hasn't.

I've seen other big bands there before - Spock's Beard (which has a CRIMINALLY small audience... man, they should have packed that place), Clutch, Mindless Self Indulgence - so it isn't like it's completely unheard of. But we seem to get the same performers every single year (I'm looking at YOU, Cruxshadows...).

Is there some sort of selection committee? Do some actively seek out going? Who can I petition to get Co&Ca there, damn it? :)

(BTW, been reading this place for a while, but never posted until now)

We were wondering if there was going to be a cabaret again this year. In the past it has been late on Saturday night, and had great attendance, so we were hoping that it would be happening again.

I did look all over the official D*C website, but to no avail.

If anyone has any info, and also any contact info for the organizer of the event (if it is happening), that would be lovely. Thanks in advance!

Hey, all! Tom here. (If you have no idea who I am, I'm a comedy musician who first attended D*Con in 1994, and has been here every year but one since 2004.) I'm very pleased to be returning to Dragon*Con, to be musical and silly and all that. It's gonna be a heck of a year, what with Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm joining me and Marc Gunn on the crazy side of the aisle. (Still trying to figure out why Jefferson Starship is coming. Oh well.)

Anyway, I just got my schedule for the con -- three shows, all at the International Tower in the Hyatt:
  • Fri 08:30 pm Location: International South - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
  • Sat 07:00 pm Location: International South - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
  • Sun 08:30 pm Location: International North - Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)
If I know Robby Hilliard, I'll likely also have a set or two down in the Filk Room, just around the corner from the Motor Pool on Hyatt Basement 3, and I'm hoping to get a set or two at the Concourse Stage on Hyatt Basement 1. (The past couple of years, I've also sung at the Awards Banquet during the Sat. 7:00 p.m. slot, but this year they're having country singer Bobby Darren.)

Anyway, I will have new songs, new merch, and who knows all what else goin' on. I'll also have a table over at the musicians' concourse at the Marriott. So please do come by and say Hi. :D

Hey everyone,

Well we are just over a month away for another great time at Dragoncon. Frankly I am looking forward to the convention. Although the current guest listing as of 7-26 is very good overall. There are some fine names to the film and televison catagory, I just feel there is something missing. Like a guest that would make you jump out of your seat and say wow they really got that person to come to Dragoncon. For the past month guest list announcements for film & television has fell to mediocrity. I counted only 9 names announce for film and Television since 6-27 and we lost one to cancellation. So we net 8 new names and from my point of view they are meh guest. No one that stands out making me say wow. I really hope that who ever is responsible for getting talent to attend Dragoncon will pull out some aces in the next 30 days with names that will surprise me. I want to be wowed.

So here is my final top ten of who I would like to see come to Dragoncon. In no particular order.

1. Richard Dean Anderson: He has attended a convention overseas recently, so why not join Amanda Tapping.

2. Jared Padelecki & or:

3. Jensen Ackles from Supernatural, they already gotten some great talent from the show. So lets top it off with these two.

4. Allison Scagliotti from Warehouse 13. She is one of my favorite characters from the show who I haven't met yet.

5. Eliza Dushka She has been attending conventions this year, so why not come to Dragoncon

6. Jeri Ryan nuff said

7. Jolene Blalock need to complete my Enterprise main cast autographs.

8. Gina Torres of Firefly, same reason as above

9. Grace Park same as above but with the success of Hawaii 5.0 it is very very very long shot of that happening.

10. Sanctuary anyone from the main who isn't have been announce yet. Ryan, Robbin, Agam or even Emilie

Well, that is my list on who will get me to say wow they are coming to Dragoncon. So what are your thoughts on the current guest list and who would you like to see come. For you it can be someone from Authors, Music, or Comic category. So lets hear your thoughts.

Four weeks people! Is your costume ready?

[identity profile] acciochocolate.livejournal.com
I've been looking for the deadline information to turn in the Band/Performer application, and don't see it on the application itself or in the info section on the Dragoncon site.

The Guest application clearly lists a deadline of June 30, 2011, but I am not seeing any thing like that on the Band/Performer application.

If anyone has any info about the Band/Performer application regarding the deadline for applying, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

"WE ARE THE FUMP"
Download it now at http://www.thefump.com

This is the 500th song posted at the Funny Music Project.

As a way to say thank you to all our devoted fans over the past four plus years, without whose support we wouldn't have made it to this milestone, we present the following song as our gift to you.

The song features, in order of appearance: Rob Balder, Tom Smith, Worm Quartet, the great Luke Ski, Raymond and Scum, Robert Lund and Spaff, Power Salad, Carla Ulbrich, Devo Spice, Carrie Dahlby, The Gothsicles, Possible Oscar, TV's Kyle, Seamonkey, Dino-Mike, Insane Ian, Steve Goodie, Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Project Sisyphus, Kobi LaCroix, Eric Coleman, Morning Sidekick, Odd Austin, Marc Gunn, Flat 29, Positude, Soggy Potato Chips, Max DeGroot, Beth Kinderman, Feng Shui Ninjas, DJ Particle, Art Paul Schlosser, The Consortium Of Genius, W. Randy Hoffman, Carl Hatmaker, Derwood Bowen, Flibbertigibbet, and Hot Waffles. With this many FuMP stars involved, you can probably easily guess what song this is a parody of.

Song idea by Devo Spice. Lyrics by the great Luke Ski. Music, mixing, and mastering by Bob Emmet.

All the proceeds of this song will go to support Heather Kenzie Gunn, newborn daughter of the FuMP's MARC GUNN OF THE BROBDINGNAGIAN BARDS. She was born with a heart defect and will need several surgeries throughout her life. Keep in mind when I say "all the proceeds", that doesn't amount to very much. So if you love the FuMP and are feeling generous, please go make a donation to help SUPPORT KENZIE: http://marcgunn.com/about/support-kenzie
