Is the mall now a DragonCon only area? I always thought that was always open to the public?

It isn't, it is "an entry point from outside the hotels" and there was no checking of badges from the mall/food court this year that I saw or that anyone else has remarked on, thus making it an easy way around the badge checking.

Last year they checked badges out of the mall. That they didn't do it this year is an oversight I hope to see them correct next year.

I saw badge checking where the habitrails from the mall went into the hotels. I may not have seen it from the mall to the Hyatt during the day. But I definietly saw it at the Marriot's entrance from the Marquis tower. Marquis tower is an office building, i don't know if it would even be possible or wise to do badge checks in there. Best kept at the hotel entrances.

There is a choke point out of the food court and into the hallways that lead to the Marriott. There was checking there last year, there was not this year.

They may have moved the actual checkpoint location, but you still couldn't go directly from the food court to the Marriot without getting checked.

Then you and I had significantly different experiences with that, which doesn't invalidate my wish for consistent checking between the food court and the Marriott. My experience was zero checking, and I am not an isolated commenter on that.

Yeah, I don't remember EVER having anyone at the food court door. The Hyatt door, yes.

i got checked every time at the foodcourt-hyatt habitrail, and the marriot-hilton walkway. when it was super crowded I'd tuck my badge away safely, so I see where people asssume it was a lot of non badged folk. I was surprised to see them stop badge checks by around midnight saturday but then it was pretty much calm by then, on the skybridge to the hilton.

I didn't feel like I had gone unchecked all weekend. Last year they were extremely diligent, but this year, I didn't find it a problem. milage. varies. Y'know.
