Hello.
I am looking for either a pair of Jodhpur men's pants with the flared hip things or a pattern to make one. Can anybody assist me in this?

Look for tutorials on Imperial Officer Uniform (Star Wars) - there's a few out there, but they can be hard to dig up.

Basically, you make pants as normal, but cut the outer seams wider than you normally would, curving out at a slight angle and then curve them in before knee height. Interface both sides of the flare and press.

Sportsman's Guide (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/2-new-east-german-mil-riding-pants-gray.aspx?a=70039) has some.

I looked forever for a pair of black ones, but finally had to settle on buying a pair of dress pants at Goodwill and altering them. I just turned them inside-out and did a row of basting stitches up the outside of the leg after I had someone actually wearing them, then sewed them up (you have to stitch out at an angle when you get up to the knee). Turn them right-side out and you'll see that they flare out from the knee. If they don't flare enough all you need to do is get a quarter yard of matching fabric, open the side seams and sew an oval-shaped panel in there.

I hope that wasn't too terribly confusing. If you still need help, just PM me and I'd be glad to assist.

A good place to look would be a tack shop (English style). Otherwise, just try a search with your search engine of choice. :) Try this search:

I use Dogpile because it's a handy meta-search. :) Good luck!

Everybody pretty much rides in breeches these days; even things called jods aren't the old poofy style. I took a quick look and found some Pikeur jods, but they're only pleated, not poofy. And they're quite $$$.

Oh dear. I don't ride anymore, and have quite fallen out of touch with the horse world. :( I know that things were getting expensive, though. Have you tried etsy (in the vintage shops) or ebay? ebay.co.uk might be a better bet than ebay in the US. At any rate, I hope that you will be in luck. Sadly, most of the links that I have for men's clothes are more western than english, these days, and the few pattern sites that I looked into had nothing to help.

Let me check a few more sites and get back to you.

ETA: check with these folks:

They are made as per measurement of one’s body to ensure a proper fit. Breeches (http://www.monarch-garments.com/cat_breeches.asp)
