Can someone tell me how DragonCon obtains their guests?  If there is an author I would love to see there and that would def fit in well how do I make this happen?  I know I have no control over that.  I was just wondering if the author has to request "guest status" or if DC officially invites them.  If DC invites them then how to you get a buzz in their ear to do this?

Everyone has to fill out a guest application.

D*C will tell you that the person has to contact them. The potential guests will tell you that D*C contacts them first.

We have to fill out a guest application. If there's someone you want to see at the con, best idea would be to send that author an email suggesting that you'd be a happy, happy fan if he or she applied to be a guest.

The guest application of which everyone else is speaking is here: http://dragoncon.org/dc_guest_app.php

Honestly it is a little bit of both.

The application to be a guest is the best way to go.

You can also suggest people to the various track directors which is the best way to get a name in front of the PTB.

Unless that author is hugely popular, their chances aren't great. I've had to author friends apply and get turned down. And even Peter S. Beagle (who has been a guest in the past) can't get back on the guest list because he isn't a big enough name.

So, have them apply but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Well that blows about Beagle. I met him when he was a guest before and I'd love to see him again. Where did you hear that?

I follow him on FB and I have friends who are good friends with him. He tried to become a guest a couple years in a row and was denied - he posted about it on his FB.

And yet, I've seen guests with an autograph session where I wonder why they're there... Some sit there lonely the whole session or only have a small handful of fans and then nothing after they leave....
