Does anyone have the web address for the Marriott reservations site? I've been e-mailing the Marriott, Passkey, and Dragon*Con and have been getting the run around (Passkey directs me to Dragon*Con &/or Marriott, Marriott directs me to Passkey, and Dragon*Con doesn't respond).

I know reservations open up 8:00 a.m. EST on Friday, October 1, 2010 through Passkey only. I just need the site.

Thanks!!!

OK, PLEASE no one post the link here unless the post is locked, because we don't want what happened last year to happen again where football fans stole many of our reservations at our rate.

to answer your question, just go to the dragonconrooms community, join, and look at the first post ^_^

But couldn't the football fans join the community if anyone can? :/

yes they can, but less people will find it if it's kept to one place and a place that's locked. if you were to google "passkey marriott dragoncon" this comes up as the first post, if you were to lock this post, it wouldn't show up at all. honestly, I probably shouldn't have said to go to the other community, but it's better than just putting it out there.

basically best thing you could do would be to go edit and lock this post

My concern as well. And all it takes is one, who will spread the link far and wide.

But what are the community mods supposed to do? (And there are quite a number of football fans who are lovely mammals, so it's not like we'd necessarily want to say "fie on all sports hooligans" or suchwhich. And probably some D*C goers who either are, or are related to, aforementioned football fans. Baby, bathwater, wupsy.)

But, yeah...aggravating. The race is on (or will be, in another few days.)

There is a post with this info in it but you have to be a member and login to see it. We are keeping it locked - its the same thing for Dragonconrooms and thier link.

Hilton and Sheraton are both taking reservations and the Hilton is charging a one night's NON REFUNDABLE deposit up front.

Please lock this post to [livejournal.com profile] dragoncon members only.
We don't need to make it easier for the football fans to get our room rates.
Thanks.

I'm a bit confused, when exactly did we discover that Football folks were stealing rooms? From what I understand, they mostly were in the Westin and such, and the folks that were staying at the Host hotels were paying full pop.

A couple years ago, a link to the D*Con website popped up on a couple sports forums - that was the first year the football fans showed up and the rooms all but disappeared after said link was posted. In the following years, the hotels have been selling out earlier and earlier as D*Con fans scramble to make sure they get their reservations (so in some ways, we are creating our own shortage).

Haven't found any links on sports forums yet this year, but I guarantee you that I can once Google's index catches up.

I hope not. Wishful thinking.

This all started two years ago. A link was posted on their forums with our codes. The race has been on ever since.

The whole "evil football fans are stealing our rooms" issue is largely overblown.

The hotels would much rather rent our 3 or 4 or 5 room nights than 1 room night. Do this as a social experiment: Call and see if you can reserve a room Friday or Saturday night at the convention rate once rooms get tight. The likely answer is no. Wait a bit, call back and ask for a Thursday through Sunday reservation. The answer will magically change assuming there are rooms. Hotels know they can book for multiple nights and not single nights.

The last couple of years the hotels do sell out pretty quickly. Do you think football fans are reserving their rooms in October? They aren't.

No doubt you have football fans willing to pay full freight (the hotels almost ALWAYS will have a full freight rooms) and then lie about getting the reduced room rate. More likely they are Diamond Encrusted Platinum Bar members of whatever points system that hotel uses and they can get rooms mere mortals cannot. And, before you ask, we have tried to get our room blocks expanded. The hotels are very reluctant to do that. It's not good business for them because they know they will eventually sell out just about every room and higher rates. Yes, they love us, but they love to make money too.

We also know the phenomenon ripples outwards from the Marriott. The Westin, Sheraton and others etc. are more likely to have more football fans because when they do finally try to get a reservation at the Hyatt, Marriott or Hilton they are already booked.

Thanks for the clarity. I know it's been a popular thing to shout about the Football fans, but I just don't see a huge block of them booking this far in advance, not to mention the Kickoff rotates the teams participating and I find it hard to believe that so many bitter rivals in the SEC would be happy to lend a helping hand. :)

Hyatt???

Well, I've gone back to the dragonconrooms page, and don't find any links active...and I am logged in.
Pixie always insists on the Hyatt, though. I've got my alarm set for the date and time to call in.... at the Hyatt line I guess. I wonder if the online reservation system will work then???
