We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Andrew Young International, which was a tiny hike from the host hotels.
In our three-day experience, we had unsanitary conditions, a shortage of towels, a shortage of respect, and were treated with a generally un-Southern attitude, as though we were idiots. As Dragon*Con veterans, we highly recommend never staying at the Holiday Inn. They do not recognize that there might be multiple guests in the room, and for the clogged sink and lack of towels we had to deal with for close to twelve (12) hours, we were given a wonderful $40 off our parking (or we could have received a generous offer of free breakfast, which most hotels offer anyways).
I would rather stay at the roach motel on Piedmont, the gaming room, or in the Claremont Inn, than stay here.
I decided to make a list of all of our problems with the room for when we need to complain to the corporate office. I shall present the highlights to ya'll.
Someone came to our room at 4:35 in the morning, dressed in street clothes and a Jesus hat. He said he was with housekeeping and that he needed to get into our room regarding a non-existent breaker issue. There was no breaker in our room. We called the front desk and say that someone just came to our room purporting to be housekeeping and they say they'll take care of it. We call again because we don't feel safe. They send security up, and inform us that he actually was a staff member. It was 4:35 a.m., we didn't have a breaker in our room, we didn't call him, and he wasn't wearing any sort of uniform.
The doors of the hotel were supposed to be locked from 11 P.M. on, they never were.
One of the outlets in the room had exposed wires. Not cool.
There's so much more, so very very much more. I've never had such a horrible hotel experience.

Date: 2009-09-07 08:52 pm (UTC)We were at the Sheraton - had a good experience all around... would stay there again, without going into details. We used to stay at Amerisuites - good experiences several years in a row. The Marriott last year - great as well.
I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad time. Please do complain to their customer service department coz I can just about bet they do not know about these things and will appreciate knowing that.

Date: 2009-09-08 09:27 pm (UTC)May move to the Marriott for next year though, seems to be where most of the party that once used to be the Parasol Bar at the Hyatt has moved to. Also, with the Sheraton added last year; the Marriott is just a bit closer.

Frankly, most Holiday Inns that I have stayed in over the years have been piss-poor at everything. Most of them need renovations stat!
I've stayed in Holiday Inns for SF cons, business trips, SCA indoor events, and family vacations. The customer service is usually lacking, the bar and restaurant staff is woefully lacking, the rooms need a serious cleaning, and, as you say, so much more could be said. :(
Holiday Inns in general aren't places to have cons in. Sure, they have function space, but they never have enough staff to handle a convention. Their function rooms seem to be for groups that meet for a couple hours at a time, and then they are done for the day.
The only hotel/motel that I have ever stayed in that was worse than Holiday Inn is Best Western. There's nothing best about them, unless it's that they are best at being not clean. Ugh.
Here's a tip:
