I'll be staying at the Hampton Inn behind the Westin this year.  This will be the first year that I'm actually staying downtown close to the con.  Other years I've only come down for one day or stayed at a hotel further out.

Anyone ever stayed at the Hampton Inn before?  I would really like to hear of anyone's experiences at/with this hotel.

I think I can handle walking up the hill to everything.  Also, I'm just a bit worried about walking after dark.  I'll have pepper spray.  Are there usually lots of people walking around on that side of the con after dark?  Also, how well lit is it?

And the community should stand up against it. We've had issues with drunk frat-boys, Nascar fans, and the underbelly of fandom showing it's face. I'd like to shine a light on some Internet drama I've found from the Facebook community.

There is a rising amount of Ghostbusters fan-groups attending both the con and the Parade. The level of costuming has been fantastic and I've personally never had any issue with any member of the various groups that combine at the Parade. Last year we had, I believe 7 Ecto-1's at the con!!

The drama is that one particular group, http://www.gbfans.com , has decided that using Kickstarter for fundraising is somehow wrong and insulting to them. They've started a campaign of harassment and threats because one fan DARED not go by methods they personally approve.

I found the issue on the FB page of Dragoncon (edit: Either the OP or the owner of the page has removed the post) and their own forum topic, where it contains threats and justification for bullying. A now locked thread where the Moderator espouses "Kicking people around" because they offend you.

As a community, it's my opinion that we should respond to this. That sort of nonsense, online or at the parade, has no place at Dragoncon.

I previously posted in here asking for 'click to like' assistance with a special project concerning a former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Mr. Sherlock Holmes.  It was until today at risk of being forever changed by property developers.
Yes, that's right- it has been SAVED and will remain a part of history.

I sincerely thank all who assisted with this :)))

Hi guys!

A friend of mine booked a room at the Marriott, but has been so kind as to transfer the room over to me. She was not sure exactly sure of the procedure, so I wanted to see if somebody could give me the run-down on exactly what steps she needs to take to ensure it gets secured in my name (and bonus points if I can get my Marriott rewards number added, too)...

I apologize if this topic has been run into the ground--I realize room transfers are discussed frequently on here, but I don't recall a discussion in recent memory on the HOW aspect. So, if this has been covered before, and somebody would rather link me to the thread, that too would be appreciated.

Countin' down the days.
