But hell, I'm used to getting flamed for anything I say anyways, so what's one more right?

*grins*

But I am just really suprised to see SO MANY people complaining. I got hit by Hurricane Frances, our flights got all screwed up so we had to leave seperately and a day early w/o no accomodations set up, one of our flights was cancelled so we had to rent a car and drive what was supposed to be a ten hour trip into an 18 hour trip on 2 hours sleep. Our car died, and that's just the beginning. I didn't get to see even a fraction of the stuff I wanted to see or do or buy what I planned on buying, etc. But you know what?

BEST. CON. EVER.

Your experience is only what you make of it. If life gives you lemons? Grab some salt and some tequila and have yourself a shot. If you had a bad time? IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT. YOU are responsible for how you react to things, not the staff, not the con, not the people. YOU.

I thought the staff was fantastic, the congoers/crowds for the most part very polite and accomodating, and security was just great. Of course there were wrenches thrown into the mix, but you know what? Didn't matter. I simply refused to let that affect my vacation. And now I have some kickass memories and photos to show for it.

Hell, I'm not even a cheery person by nature, and I STILL had Permagrin. I guess some people will just always find a reason to bitch. SMILE DAMMIT, IT'S DRAGONCON!!!

are we there yet? *counts 361 days*

Hi hi all. I have my dragon con photos up this year. Last year I had almost no pictures due to a mishap with the film. This year I didn't make up for it but got a few good ones. Also would like to day kudos to the staff and security this year. I had a great con and there were realatively few incedents. I even brought my brother for his first con. He had a blast. Also have a review on my livejournal of my experience if anyone wants to see it there.

Hey, my Dragon Con photos are up on my live journal so feel free to mosey over and check them out on there.

There is now a public group for posting Dragon*Con photos all in one place. Please contribute to the mayhem by adding your photos to the group on the FREE Flickr service, an interactive photo sharing site!

http://flickr.com/groups/dragoncon/

Flickr is the best way to store, sort, search and share your photos online. There is a huge mass of photos in the world, and Flickr provides a way to organize yours, and for you and your friends and family to tell your stories about them.

The best way to learn about it is to upload some photos, explore the site, join some groups and make some friends.

No, I don't work for Flickr, I just like the site.

I have been going to D*C since 1993 (only skipped ’96 due to not being able to afford both DC and the Olympics) and this one by far is the best D*C!!!  Just seemed more like the D*C I used to know and love.

Got to Atlanta Wed. nite for the Dimmur Borgoir concert at The Masquerade w/ my fiance'

wrstcasesnario .
Awesome concert (stayed for heavy metal karaoke)!!!  Checked into the Hyatt at 9am Thursday morning.  McFly rocked the house that nite.  We asked him if they played at weddings.  About a grand more than what we wanted to spend but if we take donations from friends it could happen.  That nite I wore schoolgirl plaid pants and plaid zipper bikini top w/ devil horns to go along w/ the McFly catholic schoolgirl theme.  Their drummer asked me where I bought my clothes since it was similar to what the girls in the band wear.

Friday hit the dealers room and bought a sword.  Loved the metaldude work!!!  Caught the Julie Benz panel and the Gothic music panel.  Talked to William Faith for awhile (Chris loved to see me oh so star struck talking w/ him and Monica).

Friday nite I did my kind of version of Moulin Rouge w/ a red corset, vinyl booty shorts, top hat w/ feathers and thigh high boots.  Ran into Jsin from secretroom.net and the other secretroom fetish performers and talked for awhile.  Really cool…he is always busy so it was really nice to hang w/ him for a bit.  Threw around ideas for our wedding themed fetish nite in January.

Saturday hit the art room.  Front row at Faith and the Muse acoustic set.  Talked w/ Bruce Hopkins from LOTR (Gambling).  Later that nite he saw us in the matching fetish red vinyl medical outfits (I had syringes on my top and skirt) and loved it!!!  He wanted a pic taken w/ us and ended up talking w/ him for awhile.  We asked him how this compares to other conventions he has been to (very nice guy!!!).

Sunday ended up buying a violent wand set from Achella.  Yeah, we so did not plan on it but we have been wanting it for awhile and she was offering them at a good price!! Can’t wait to use it!!!

Sunday nite we did out version of oriental fetish.  I wore a red latex geisha dress w/ a red vinyl corset over it, thigh high boots, and had a strip of red paint on my face.  Chris wore his hakama pants w/ a cincher and whips.  Faith and the Muse was an orgasmic experience!!!  Kept alternating between secretroom’s dance and the other concerts!!!

We met some cool people and I will always cherish D*C 2004 more so than other years!!!!

Edit: I changed the links to a server that could handle the load. They should be flowing more rapidly within a few...

This was the first time in a number of years I actually bought the weekend pass and got my geek on in full. Many highlights, chief being a descent into geekboy fandom and getting the Firefly DVDs signed by Nathan and Jewel (missed Adam). Also, I <3 Jewel.

Thanks to all who made it happen, I'll see you next year.

First of several reports on the convention. Each in their own places...

I will admit that most people's observation of the con being smoother than most is backed up by our records in the Secrurity Department. We had about as many reports as last year and about as many problems with the same kinds as usual, but they all seemed to happen in small bursts and waves (mostly about 230 AM). Most all of the reports (and all of the arrest reports) involved Mundanes who were crashing the con. It helps restore our faith in the fanbase that we have and especially those who honor the family by entering it honestly through registration.
I want to thank the fans for being as easy going as they were. That made our job much easier and therefore made things for them easier as well. Special thanks need to go out to the Cobra and Stargate troups for coming en mass to the Security Office for peacebonding and weapons approval. I think that dedication and respect should be noted by all. We were even able to adjust some of the weapons policy rules to help accomadate the con as a whole with their input and that of the APD present on Thursday.
The bulk of the issues that we faced were alcohol related. This is unfortunately to be expected, but it is again nice to know that when sober our convention is very courteous and friendly. I want to extend my thanks to those who helped contain themselves and their friends as they endulged as well. This again made things better for everyone.
On the matter of honesty, I must send a special thanks to all those who turned in wallets and cameras (digital and non) and cellphones and even loose creditcards/IDs to the lost and found. We had about a 90% return rate during the show. There are still about a dozen electronic items and eight or nine wallets still in the lost and found and they can be claimed through the DragonCon Office starting in about a week when it gets back up and running. I know that all those who were able to reclaim their stuffs (especially those who got their wallets back wtih the cash levels intact) are even more appreciative, so I will extend a thank you to all from them. We would also like to thank the hundreds of people who turned in badges they found during the con. We had a very high level of return there as well (our tracing records showed almost 200 badges turned in over the weekend and only about thirty were left at the end of the show.)

So from the Security Department - A very big thank you to the fans and their behavior and honesty this weekend. This was a very smooth weekend for all of us as a result. I hope we can continue this trend we have established over the past eight years of improving the show each year. Let's keep up the good work and keep enjoying the convention as much as we can.

I have to say that I had a BLAST this year at the con! I was hoping that some of you could help me track down some pictures of me... ^_^;;; Friday I was dressed as a pirate (all black with a brown tricorn and long hair with dreads and dangly bits), Saturday was my lolita drag day (see picture below), and part of Sunday was my "Matrix-esque" (kinda like Trinity) drag day. Each night, I changed back into the pirate costume (sans the hair) 'cause I wanted to get drunk in style! XD Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of myself! DOH! My weekend roomie [livejournal.com profile] thanophile did get this shot of me Saturday though...
Only picture I've found so far )

If ANYONE sees ANY other pictures of this outfit or the others I described PLEASE let me know! Our digicam died and didn't get used during the weekend...

Hello all! Just wanted to say that I had a great con. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work (both for the con and in their amazing costuming) and for making this quite a memorable first (but definitely not last) DragonCon! I can't tell you all how great all the costumes were. You guys rock!

There are not many pics of me in existence to my knowledge, but if you happened to have met or seen me (or just collect lj friends) by all means feel free to add me and I'll add you back!

For reference, here's a pic of me the night of the Dawn Contest. It's a bit blurry, but it'll give you an idea of what I looked like. )

Cheers, lovelies!

My hubby and I had a great time this year, as usual. It seemed a little less crazy busy for us as far as the crowds were concerned and that is something I see as a serious positive. The guests all seemed to be polite and sincere, and the con-goers were also awesome. I was concerned the hurricane was going to head in the direction of my house (Mississippi), so I had to keep a close eye on the weather, but it didn't and we were able to stay, yay us! And now, for randomness:

Comments and suggestions and replies, oh my! )

Wow!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone involved in the con. I was working the overnight LARP staff and had very few problems with any of the attendees. I was the guy on the gaming floor in the wheelchair drinking coffee by the gallon. Special thanks to the LARP kids who were awesome to work for all weekend. Super special thanks to the guys with Security who were always there to disarm folks for me when necessary.

Well another DC is over and the wicked can finally rest. I been reading the DC lj post most have been good. A few have said many negative things about the staff. The cries of bad attitude being the most. I have to say that I'm sorry that some of our staff had bad attitudes, must be something to do with the fact that most of them were averaging about 4 hours or less of sleep. Instead of complaining try to help and see what type of thing you get into. Will go on latter.

Thought of the day: Need more sleep.

I posted this in comments to Yeager but I wanted the rest of you to read it as well. DC has child care for most of the day and if you can't watch your own children then leave them at home with family.

On Sunday at about 2:00 I made a report to a few security folks in the office beside the con suite. My husband overheard 3 teenagers in the con suite earlier in the day talking about having 'made out' with a nine year old the night before. One of the teens, who appeared older, identified himself as 15. He commented on how easy it was to get into some of the room parties and how even though there were folks gaurding the doors they thought he was an adult and told him to make sure his younger friends didn't drink. Now this all may have been teens bragging to there frineds but I would like to remind parents that just because they have been coming to Con for several years and they may feel safe it is never 100% safe anywhere. And please if someone was letting their 9 yr old run around at any time alone they should be shot.

This brings me to the little boy, age 7 maybe, who was riding up and down in the elevators while his parents gamed. Anyone could have snatched that kid on many floors. I told a security person about him. I hope she spoke some sense into his parents. I spoke to the kid and he said oh it's ok I have a badge and I'm checking in with my parents every 30 min. Do you guys realize how dead this kid could be in 30 minutes?

I have always brought my kids to con. I am also very lucky as to have family with me who can help keep and eye on my girls when I attend a panel thats inappropriate for them. I loved seeing the large amount of familes that attended the con this year but one missing or dead child could really effect the con, (not to mention the family) if not ruin it all together. It's not up to security to mind our children.
[identity profile] strickland.livejournal.com
Friend of mine and I were pondering this at con.

With the sudden increase in Cobra costumes, the Stormtroopers and various Cobra personel should go at it in an all out fight. However the safest place to be would be in the middle of the shooting as most Stormtroopers and Cobra troops can't hit a barn... well if the cartoons and movies tell us anything at least.

While at Dragon*con I saw a few people I knew! Xtoph, IMMORTALLANDER, kashirakashira, and a few others! Anyway! I have stated previously that I was the Raven in the shiney blue cloak on Saturday and the Alice In Wonderland in red and black with the bloody rabbit pelt on Sunday. I have seen one of my pics, but I really want to see the Alice ones. I still have a couple of pics left on my camera so I haven't developed the film yet. Anyway! I am off to things and stuffs!

Well, I figured it's about time for me to join the rest of you in a quest for pics of myself. I was dressed up as Spike on Friday night. At the Buffy Prom I was "swank Spike", I had on a white shirt and a tie so for some bizarre reason, everyone kept mistaking me for Draco Malfoy even though I was still wearing the trench coat. Anyhoo, there's a pic of me under the cut so you'll know who to look for. If any of you have any pics of me, please send me the links, I only got 1 or 2 good ones.

It's probably going to take me days to post and/or fully process all that happened these past few days, but one thing that hits me right away is the number of really cool people I met and hung out with, many of whom I'd never met. I think I've made some new friends!

Among the guests I got to know a lot better, from moderating panels & hanging out:

Anne Sudworth, Neil Robinson, Lynn Flewelling, Jacqueline Carey, Caitlin Kiernan, and Rogue )

I also met a couple of "old" friends I've only known online, like Deb & [livejournal.com profile] vaysh, plus a couple of other Wraeththu fans who came up to me briefly.
