Note that Convention Registration will be moving to the Sheraton for 2009. That hotel will also be hosting several popular programming tracks including our British SF and TrekTrak programming, plus a 1,000-capacity ballroom for large programming events, including nighttime events.

Was the a major announcement about this on the DC Homepage?  We only found out about it when it was mentioned on another forum.  And then I had to go hunting on the DC Homepage to verify that Registration had indeed been moved.

That's the first I've heard about it, and I was at the staff meeting this weekend. It makes sense, though, since it'll relieve a lot of congestion. Could be that it was just settled and just hasn't made it to the main page of the web site yet. I can't get into the site right now to see where/how it's posted, but I imagine it'll get a lot more publicity closer to the con. Not like it makes any difference at this point. ;)

It was so hard to hear at the meeting because people wouldn't stop talking that it's not surprising I missed it. *g*

It was *very* briefly mentioned at the staff meeting this weekend. I also can't get to the site to find out where I originally saw it posted....

It says registration will be at the Sheraton on my pre-reg postcard.

I noticed it on my pre-reg card a few months ago. Might as well take advantage of the extra space, and free up the space in the Hyatt for something else.

yay -- hopefully this will be like the year it was at the Hilton and we just walked right up, grabbed our badges and walked out! Who knows, but every time it's been in the Hyatt it's taken a lot longer to get badges.

The area in the Sheraton is much larger than what is used in the Hyatt right now. The Sheraton has tons of space for registration ... that allows the Grand Ballroom level of the Hyatt to be used for other events.

How would the Sheraton being a new host hotel have any impact on the speed of badge pick-up?  Speed is based on the number of people manning the registration booths and the amount of training they've had.  The number of people/registration booths is dependent on the size of the room - if the Sheraton has a large room, there's more room for D*Con staff which means more people picking up badges faster.

I totally agree with you on that. Going by scooter from the Hyatt to the Sheraton is to put it bluntly, a pain in the ass. Not even sure if the walkway between the Marriott and the Hilton will help any because at some point you have to get down on the street. Those sidewalks aren't exactly made for scooters and wheelchairs. I'm just hoping and praying that any panels with Leonard Nimoy will NOT be in the Sheraton but brought to the Marriott like some of the bigger Trek events last year.

Now that would really suck...If they have to move it, it should go in the Marriott instead.

Regina Kirby, Dragon*Con’s Senior Director of Programming, contacted us to correct some of the information we shared about bands on our last podcast. She said…

“The bands will not be at the Sheraton. They will continue to play at the Hyatt and Marriott and their tables will be at the Marriott. The FAN tables will be split between the Sheraton and the Hyatt.”

Yes, we made a mistake

I really hated the TrekTrak being over there last year and I'm sad it's there again. It was so out of the way we only made it down there for the Klingon Beauty Pageant. I know the con has to expand somewhere but I hate that it's my favorite track.

It is a walk, but TrekTrak needs a bigger space than what was available in the Hyatt. Regency 6-7 is smaller than the Sheraton Grand Ballroom by a few hundred seats. You can't put the goth stuff over there due to the risk of actual sunlight exposure between events ... maybe Eric will have that transporter running this year :)

We did, too and hardly made it there... but the Luck Fairy has aligned events so that we actually are staying at the Sheraton, after ranting about not getting a Marriott room...

And because my ex-frakkin'-boss pitched a fit last year coz I took Thursday off to fly in early in the day, I booked a 6:00 p.m. flight from MI, arriving about 8:30... then will be taking MARTA to the Peachtree Center... (Now not working for her, but it costs too much to change flights now... )

We will now be able to actually pick up badges Thursday night!!!! That wouldn't have worked if we had to schlep from Peachtree to the Sheraton, check in, drop stuff in the room then haul ourselves back to the Hyatt... Thanks, Luck Fairy! LOL

Kinda along the same lines.....how is registration on Thursday night....will the Sheraton have any effect on it? We're planning on getting in line right after we check in. We're at the Sheraton this year :)

First I've heard of it, but it totally makes sense. Hyatt was crazy last year, and Sheraton really isn't as long of a walk as one might think looking at the map. :)

My argument is more personal than practicle- the Sheraton in my humble opinion, for want of a better word sucks. I do not believe it should be called a host hotel since it has not got it's act together. I'd have prefered the hyatt. Roll on the con guys.
