Just curious if anyone is planning any belly dance activity (aside from the drum circle) for Dcon 2010?

I believe last year there was a belly dance show thrown together at last minute for the Silk Road track, but I wasn't able to participate due to scheduling conflicts.

Any news on belly to-dos for this year?

This has been on my mind for quite some time, and after throwing it out on my own LJ and getting a great response, I thought I'd try it here!

Think Masked Ball scenes for 'Marie Antoinette' or 'Casanova'.

It would be strictly fancy 18th century attire with 18th century decorated and styled masks. Bauta masks, half faced masks...etc.

Would anybody else be interested in making this happen?? I think it would be great fun! I also have plenty of music and decorating ideas in mind!

I thoroughly enjoyed this years D*C* and while I wish I could have been everywhere at once I couldn't.

I noticed a few posts about the Alderaan dance party and I was wondering if anyone had some photos or videos of the event. The previous posts didn't have anything in the comments, but maybe that's because they were looking for more specific stuff. I just wanna see how much fun I missed out on. :)

I am fairly new to this community and I hope I can meet up with some of you guys next year!

Thanks so much!!!!

LOVE!!!

Were they more fun when they were in the Hyatt?  Maybe. I dunno.  But we thought maybe last year's Sunday night 80's theme was strange fluke, but it happened again this year.  Is this going to be a regular thing now? We miss the other types of music from previous years.  I mean, an occasional 80's hit here or there is fine with me, but I really can't deal with a whole night of it, not for raving.   We were told by friends who'd been in there before us, that the DJs were going to do an hour of 80's and then progress to other stuff, but that didn't happen, so they were wrong, and eventually we just left.  :(

Also, why are they starting so late?  2:30? Or later.

I think there could be a smaller room somewhere dedicated to starting an actual rave-type thing earlier than that, (like previous years at the Hyatt. there was sometimes a dance going right next to the ballroom which had a band or something else happening) For those of us who are not interested in concerts, and would like to get our dance/party on before  3 a.m. I think there are enough people attending Dragon*Con now to guarantee that both types of activities would get some attention.

I met a nice guy at the Alderaan dance on Saturday night. He was a good swing dancer too. We talked about a lot, but somehow forgot to exchange information. If he happens to see this, I would like to contact him. Since I was dressed in red boots and a long red, white, and blue cape, he should remember.

What is the best way to hunt down someone you met briefly at the convention but failed to exchange info? I've got a first name and the handle he put on his badge. For reasons I can't even explain to myself, I need to find this guy...

Want to meet fellow fanfiction-lovers? My friend [livejournal.com profile] mosellegreen  is an Atlanta local and a longtime fan and has decided to host a fanfiction meetup party at her house in the Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw this Sunday. There will be a backyard barbeque, dancing and a vid show. Filking is also welcome if desired.

All listed activities are optional, anyone who wishes to avoid any of them is welcome to hang out elsewhere in the house or yard and avail themselves of provided fannish media or impromptu activities. Costumes welcome! Warning: house contains a cat.

Food and drink will be provided, including vegan-friendly soup and salad, but contributions of any variety are welcome.

All flavors of fanfiction fan are welcome, from slash to het to gen from all fandoms. This party is not limited to D*Con attendees - all are welcome, and local fans will be attending. This is not an adults-only party, so if you have children, feel free to bring them along.

Currently taking suggestions of vids for the vid show.

Fans with disabilities - Mosellegreen's backyard, where most of the festivities will be held, is accessible from the street without the use of steps.

RSVP is appreciated but not required. Please, if you have a vehicle, consider offering to carpool other guests, as this house is not convenient to public transport. Mosellegreen will be happy to ferry guests to and from the convention, but only three seats are open, and these are on a first come first served basis.

Festivities will begin at 2:30pm and let out at 6pm on Sunday in order to give everyone plenty of time to get back for the Masquerade.

Please comment or email me at fitzrose @ email.msn.com and you will be provided with an address and contact details. Will be checking email up until Sunday morning, so don't worry if you notice this post a little late.

ETA: Cancelled due to lack of interest. Only got one RSVP

Let's start a Dragon*Con Roda!

If any Capoeiristas(someone who practices Capoeira) or anyone thats just interested in Capoeira would like to get together at the convention this year, please let me know.   I would love to get some Capo practice and play in while I'm at the con.  Cinemastique has mentioned doing some stuff at the Drum circle in previous years.  I would love for this to continue and grow this year.  I would also like to get some Cap going at one of the raves, I will have glowsticks for my hands and feet.  Respond to this thread, message me on here, contact me on Capoeira.com, or contact me at myspace.com/vamphunterx

Ok all you Mad Scientists and Evil Geniuses - we got the news we've been waiting for: ARCATTACK is officially BACK!!!! Received the word today that ArcAttack has been invited to Dragon*Con for 2009. That means that the 2nd Annual Mad Scientist Ball will be bigger and better than year 1. And that's saying something. lol Although it doesn't seem possible, ARCATTACK has added even more to their show so if you're saying to yourself, 'I saw them last year', you have to come to the 2nd Annual Mad Scientist Ball and see how hot ArcAttack is now!! lol The Ball will again be on Sunday night beginning at 10pm and it will again be in the Hyatt. BUT, the Ball is currently scheduled into Regency 6 & 7 (the room next to where we were last year) and that means lots of extra room; actually almost triple the space from last year.

We're also adding to the craziness. Have you been 'Bobtisted'? NO? Well Stang, Suzie the Floozy and a whole cast of Church of the Sub-Genius will be there to amuse and confound you! lol As it was for our 1st year, if you show up in a lab coat, or goggles, or a space suit, or anything space or Mad Scientist related, you will received goodies to brighten your night. We are also expanding our LN2 ice cream production to ensure more of you get to enjoy the icy goodness. : - )

Mark it on your Dragon*Con calendar now and join the Space and Science Tracks as we show everyone that Geeks know how to PARTY!!!!
