So... turns out my delinquency in making a room reservation this year has led to my being totally locked out of getting a room at the Marriott, unless I want to pay $250 a night... which, uh, I don't.

The reason I'm insistent on staying at one of the Big Three and not one of the overflows is because I'm Assistant Director for Weyrfest this year, and I really, really need to be close to the action. I WOULD prefer to stay in the Marriott, and not the Hyatt or Hilton, if at all possible, because it's quieter and has more elevators and stuff. If anyone's got a Marriott reservation and is looking to split the cost of the room, I'd be most willing to do so.

Roomie(s) should be:

  • Female. This is not negotiable (well, unless you're post-op. That's good enough for me. Gay men are also acceptable, but I'm likely to have you make out with another Hot Guy of my choosing -- you know. Just to be sure).
  • CLEAN. We all know how many Con-goers wouldn't know a bar of soap if they were beaten with it (and, arguably, some of them shold be). If you don't see why wandering around the Southern U.S. for four days at the height of summer, potentially in full costume, with thousands of other people, might potentially be unhygenic and cause for as much deodorizing and showering as possible, then don't even ask.
  • A non-smoker.
  • A non-partier or, at the very least, a respectful partier. Myself, I don't mind staying up until the wee hours of the morning, but chances are I will be TIRED and will want to crash shortly after midnight-ish. I don't want to listen to you and twenty of your friends yammer drunkenly on until four in the morning. That's what bars are for. That's where I'll be doing MY drunken yammering. After that, it's bedtime.

  • I promise to be a good roomie in return: I'm clean, I'm pretty quiet, and to my knowledge, I don't snore (though sometimes I talk in my sleep; I can be silenced with a well-aimed pillow). I'm not terribly modest, but if that's a problem, say so and I'll, you know, change in the bathroom. But given that I'll be staffing for most of the weekend, I probably won't even be IN the room that much.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

We have a room available at the Hyatt, but only one of us is female, us being engaged and all ^^; Would that be acceptable?

The Hilton tends to be quieter than the Marriott, actually, from my experience.

are you sure you aren't thinking of the Hyatt, where most of the activities are held? The Hilton is two blocks away from Peachtree, behind the Marriott, and they only had registration there last year. Their lobby is rather small and quiet. I've never had a problem getting an elevator, and there really aren't any parties there. The Hyatt, on the other hand, is noisy and chaotic, and the open design inside just channels all the noise up to the other rooms, and of course I wouldn't stay there or recommend staying there.

Which is a good point. I'm just angry that the person who was supposed to make OUR reservations at the Marriott "didn't realize they sold out" despite being told. And this was not their first con. Good luck with the roomhunt!

I may be able to help you out. I have a room in the Marriott and have gone through two roommates who expressed interest, but were then forced to drop out due to unexpected car problems that made them spend their money on repairs instead of the con. So, fair warning: I take no responsibility for bad things happening to your car due to this curse! ;)

Otherwise I too am female, nonsmoking, and like to get my sleep, so I got a room on the quiet floor. I do use a white noise generator at night due to tinnitus but can shove it up close to my pillow.

I am also interested in having just one other roommate. Two beds, two people.

I'm also a Pern fan, but will probably be spending most of my time with the Browncoats. :)

When it's perfectly quiet I can hear my ears ringing, which is annoying when I want to sleep. So I have a little doohickey I got from Radio Shack that plays a variety of quiet, repetitive sounds that I can leave running all night. It's got sounds like wind, ocean waves, that sort of thing. It's just enough noise to drown out the ringing but not really something that keeps me awake. When it's hot I sleep with a fan running which serves the same purpose. Places like Brookstone have expensive players with lots of different sounds and extra bells and whistles.
