Super8, where I stayed this year, has gotten some bad reviews in this community. While my experiences there haven't been as bad as some of the posters here, I don't think I want to stay there next year. I am considering staying at the Courtyard or the Fairfield Inn. What are those hotels like? Are the rooms comfy? Is the walk to the Hyatt and Marriott very bad? What have your experiences been?

I stayed at the Courtyard this last time. It wasn't too bad...The room was a fair size (best for four people AT MOST)...

But the walk was a bit of an excersize, you could say. If you're going to be in some large, heavy, or thick costume, walking a couple blocks will not be the best of decisions.

If you want somewhere close by, try the AmeriSuites. Just across the street from the Hyatt.

Ah, wise choice then.

Well, if you can't seem to get a deal with the Marquis, then I imagine the Courtyard/Fairfield would be a good second choice. It's not terribly far, but it does require crossing about...Three or four streets before getting to the Marquis.

I'm one of the Super8 haters, but I will recommend the Residence Inn by Marriot, it's a couple blocks, but it's all flat, unlike from the Super 8 where it's uphill. Nice size rooms, beautiful old building, plus a little economy kitchen.

I stayed @ the Fairfield Inn this year and it wasn't a bad room really but the walk to the con is uphill so if you are in heavy costumes it would be a major pain in the ass. It's only a few blocks from con but being that it is uphill it kinda feels like more.

Actually there is a travelodge right around the corner from the Marriot. I stayed there this year & it wasn't bad. their breakfast isn't worth mentioning but for how close it is the price is good.

I stayed at the Courtyard this year and the AmeriSuite last year. Amerisuite is definitely closer, but both of them are pretty effective for less expensive than the main con hotels, not to mention QUIET. :)

There is a shuttle that runs from those hotels to DragonCON and back. It's paid for by the con and runs like every 20 minutes. The information on it can usually be found in the first few pages of the program.

Oh, and for the late night people, the latest run this year was 3am.

I stayed at the Fairfield this year. I loved it and will probably stay there again. The "hill" is more of a slight slant, and it is only three or four blocks from the convention hotels. It was not scary walking back at night, and they had a free breakfast buffet in the morning with cereal, muffins, milk, OJ, make-your-own waffles, bagels, fruit, coffee, etc. My boyfriend and I stayed there at double occupancy for about the price it would have cost us to be in a quad in the Marriott and had a king bed and room to ourselves. It's a quiet place to stay, too, which was nice - but we aren't partiers.

I actually stayed at the Sheraton this year. I booked on Priceline and paid $65 a night (plus taxes and fees -- with all that added, it came out to less than $77 a night).

The room was a bit small with two doubles, and there wasn't even a fridge, but it was only a block to walk, and the beds were the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in!
