Hi all...its getting close to the time where I usually go to the convention area and take a video of the paths and trails I travel most during the long weekend.  I do it usually just to see what has changed/improved and also for people to get their surroundings.  I think this helps to keep traffic moving and getting everyone to the right spot as soon as possible.  The first few times I went to D*Con I spent way too much time getting turned around and not enough time in each event.  Here is the video I took last year:

This year I am thinking of stepping it up a bit.  I might get a tripod with wheels and record in a higher quality.  Also I want to take videos of the other areas and how to get to those hard to find rooms in the hotels, possibly even the best way to get to the Westin and Sheraton and where the more popular rooms are located.  I am open to suggestions.  What do you guys think would be most helpful?

Thanks!
Rich

Wow, what an awesome idea! I wish I had known about this last year :).

I definitely would like to see where the popular rooms in the Westin and Sheraton are...I'm sure they're properly labeled for normal events, but seeing small plaques/signs through the crowds of Dragon*Con is nearly impossible!

A map to all the hot room parties I never get invited to? :)

Your videos were a great help to me last year, my first time at D*C. Thanks! For this year, maybe you could start in the Hyatt lobby, first pointing out the locations of the Skybridges to the Marriott and the Mall Food Court, then walking over into the International Tower, down to the International Ballroom level, then down to the Embassy level, then down to the Atlanta Conference Center level. Then, walk over on that level back into the main buliding and go back up to the lobby, pointing out what's on each floor as you go up through the Exhibit and Ballroom levels. I live just outside Atlanta and went down there last year a couple of weeks before the Con and made that circuit so I'd have a clear picture of the Hyatt layout, which is the most confusing of all the hotels. I think a video of that would be a real help to this year's newbies. Your idea of showing the way to the Sheraton and the Westin sounds great. I had people ask me how to get to them last year. You're performing a real service to fandom here. Thanks again!

Three DragonCons under my belt and the Hilton and the Sheraton are still the most confusing to me. I can get to them easily enough, but finding the right rooms (and/or restaurants) usually has me going in circles. I'd love a better overview of those. :D

Paths for handicapped con goers? You could try and find paths that might make it easier for people in wheelchairs/scooters to traverse (no stairs or perhaps wide halls). Showing where there are ramps and access points could be helpful.

Now that I think of it, trying to find the "smoothest" path would be good for people with strollers, big props, or a drunk friend they're trying to navigate back to the hotel room. Everyone benefits! Plus it could be fun for you if you want to make it a challenge to yourself to time out the fastest route.

Another helpful thing to point out in your video is where the stairwells are in each hotel. I know that many of us prefer to take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevators. I spent a good 10 minutes last year trying to find the stairwell entrance in the Mariott. Once found though, it made things so much easier.

Thank you. Your video is very helpful. Last year it helped me get through the new skybridge. Thanks for thinking about everyone else.
