I'm currently going to just live under the assumption that when I check into my hotel on Friday morning, the valet parking provided by my hotel will no longer be available due to all the people who checked in on Friday. This may be inaccurate, but again, we're just going to assume this.

Now, with this being the case, what are some preferred methods of overnight parking that you guys have? The Lindbergh Marta place has been suggested to me, but I'm just curious what else is available in the area that is at least somewhat safe? I'm also living under the assumption that someone in a parking garage will not attack 4 nerds with swords, fake guns, and a sonic screwdriver, but you never know....

The Lindbergh MARTA station is going to be cheaper, easier to access, and probably safer than anything you'll find downtown. We even parked there when we were locals.

I used to live in walking distance of the Lindbergh Marta. I always saw troupes of people in D*Con costume leave their cars there and take the train in. It's two buildings worth of 7 or 8 story garage, so it's pretty hard to fill up.

+1 Lindbergh MARTA. Best bet.

I've used the parking garage across Harris Street from the Marriott. Anything near the hotels will probably be full of other con-goers, so it'll be about as safe as it gets (that is, you'll be surrounded mostly by other nerds with swords etc.).

Lindbergh MARTA is safe as it is guarded and has cameras. I just left my car there for a week while I took a trip out of the country.

The rate is $8/day, and if you get your parking pass validated when you return to your car, they shave off a day's parking. The MARTA ride is short and easy, and it drops you off near the Peachtree Center food court.

Where are you getting your Lindbergh MARTA pass validated? I wouldn't mind saving another $8.

When you arrive at Lindbergh and go upstairs, there's a yellow machine near the exit with a flashing yellow light on top. Just slide your parking ticket in there and it will validate. It's pretty quick and easy.

I've never had a problem with the garage next to the Marriott. On Friday, it's working people and nerds.

I've used this garage every year, and I like it a lot.

Last year I used the nearby parking garage without trouble. A few friends used a farther away MARTA garage, but I was traveling alone and didn't get there til 10pm so I drove around for an alternative.
If you're in a group of four I wouldn't worry about safety too terribly much unless you get an uneasy feeling, just look for price and convenience.

The Lindbergh area is quite safe (like another commenter, I also lived within walking distance of that station), but keep in mind that MARTA doesn't run between ~1:30 and ~5:30, so if you need access to your car in the early early morning you're pretty screwed...

I actually work downtown, at 191 Peachtree Street across from the Westin. I park in the Lanier Deck at 161 Peachtree Center Avenue (Quiznos & Agathas Mystery Theatre on the ground floor). I've left work late plenty of times and never had any issues. There are elevators and ever-present security. And since I have a monthly pass, I park there during D*C and have left late several times from that deck and felt very safe.

I'll second this suggestion. I used to park there when I was driving in to work at Peachtree Center (I take the express bus in from North Cobb, instead, now) and have never had any problems there. There is a security office inside the entrance (double glass doors) next to Quizno's, and the elevator bank is there as well.

Can you park over night there?

Yes. A couple of years ago I parked there overnight for D*C. For the entire long weekend, actually.

In 2008, I did the parking garage shuffle since I stayed with a friend in Atlanta. Each garage ended up being worse than the last, though I only feared for my life on Friday night. Never again.

However, on Monday, I ended up parking in the Hilton's garage, and was kicking myself for not using it the entire weekend. It's expensive, but it was wonderful being able to park in a garage with direct elevator access to the hotel. Not sure if they'll have space still when you get in. The convenient entrance was on Piedmont Ave. at Baker Street.

Anyone think Lindburgh will be filled up by 3pm on Thursday? I live an hour north of Atlanta and I plan on driving down there after I take a nap after the night shift so it'll be about 2 or 3.
