I'm sure someone else will have submitted this already, but just in case they haven't, here's a link to the specific comment that details the plans to change up next year's badge pick up.  They're going to a bar code system!

Is this legit? The poster is a new account with no other info.

I desperately want it to be true.

I thought the director's name was Chip?

I think Chip runs the DC office, but if you look at the DC website at the Administration/Liason's list then you'll see that Troy is head of the on-site pre-registration.

I don't know anything about the account, but the information being presented there is in line with everything that was being discussed in the back offices at Con, so I'm inclined to believe it.

It's not their membership fee.

This is a commonality that anyone who serves other people in any capacity has to go through.

I guarantee you, these same people probably undertipped their bellman, and their waitstaffers, and were rude to them, too.

It's like they turn off the part of their mind that acknowledges other people as human beings with feelings.

THIS.

*applauding*

Similarly to how Israelis have to serve in the military, every United States citizen should have to work in retail or in some other service industry for a period of time--including Christmas.

This sounds good, but I'm afraid that I'm gonna forget my postcard now!!! LOL! I wish they could like email us our barcodes too or something

This year I forgot my postcard because my parents discarded it or something... I had it sent to their house since I wasn't sure where I'd be living after I moved. Yikes!!!

I reposted this also on dragonconforums.org and I'm out right giddy if this is the case and really shows that the powers that be are listening, mostly. :)

Awesome news. Thanks for pointing me at it.

I pointed the Facebook group at it.

This would be awesome - they do it that way at ComicCon and it takes about two minutes to register! REgistration line was my only real complaint this year!

I'm just concerned about those of us who never seem to get our postcards in the mail. Mine never showed up this year and I know that there are a few people who don't get theirs every year.

Looks like you may be able to have it emailed to you, and then you print it out as you finish packing up for D*C.

Hopefully they'll email the barcode as well as a physical copy. That way if you forget it at home you'd be able to print a new one out at the hotel or a copy shop

Finally excited for next year!

Hallejah!!!!

Thanks so much!

To the previous posters concerned with the postcards, I think it stated that it will be emailed too so if you don't get one you are bound to have the email with the barcode needed.

If you have your smartphone, a lot of them come with barcode scan apps, too!

Yes, this would be awesome. The scanners made play well with smartphones are slightly more expensive, though. So I wouldn't count on it without a test run in 2011.

thank god! I was going to suggest this, as it's what Otakon does, and their pre-reg lines are sooo much easier to get through!

I'll believe this when I see it. People have been telling them to do this for YEARS, and for YEARS the response has been "the 5 hour pre-reg line is perfectly acceptable to us."

I'm in the pessimist camp with Maxine. If there's a taker, I'll bet someone a drink at the Pulse bar that we'll see the same old registration line next year. Mind you, this is one bet I'd be happy to lose.

I'm going to go get a suite at the Marriott this weekend and hold another room party, JUST because this news pleases me that much. :)

hopefully they'll have tech support on hand if the system crashes. it did the year i went to anime-expo & had to wait over 1 1/2 in the hot sun. doesn't compare to the 4 hours that i waited this year, but it's sept. vs july (A-X i in july is los angeles)
