I know that, in general, a person can pick up another person's badge at registration with a note and a government ID.  *MY* question, however is, can the "helper" (i.e non handicap person) pick up the "disable's" badge at the DS services line, without said disabled person present.  If so, what would you need for proof of disablity shy of the afore mentioned actual presence of that person?  Would a copy of their hang tag do??

BTW last year me and my buddy waited in the DS line, and didn't notice till AFTER we left that WE didn't get the special "sticker" for our badges.  That was ok for me, I come with built in proof, however,my helper had problems.  Beyond that, I want to thank you again for the super wonder work you are doing so all us handicap folks can have a happier DragonCon....

thank ye

We need you present so we can identify which services we offer best meet your needs. Your companion does not get a sticker unless they are also disabled. You are free at any time to fire that minion and get another one, so they don't get marked. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I've addressed this before but myself and my husband are disabled. I use a scooter for mobility and he has hearing aids and a bad back. When we arrive at DCon, I usually drive to the Sheraton (We are staying at the Marriott), drop off my husband to get our badges and stickers and drive around the block until he gets back because my scooter is delivered to the hotel and I will not be mobile enough until picking up the scooter to walk into the Sheraton. Also, once I get the scooter, I do not feel comfortable using it to transverse streets and get to the Sheraton along uneven sidewalks. Since we had no problems the last two years my husband getting the stickers, why is it a problem this year? Thank you.

Since it relates, I'm going to piggyback off of this question to ask about getting around... My wife is disabled; she & I have only been to the con once before (2008) and didn't use the 'courtesy buses' that time, but with registration being all the way over at the Sheraton (we're staying at the Hyatt), I'm trying to figure out the best way to get her there without her having to walk 7 or 8 blocks round-trip. Will the courtesy buses be running on Thursday afternoon? If not, do the hotels themselves offer any kind of free local shuttle?

I'm going to be picking up my roomies badge when we pick ours up at disability services because he can't make it until much later. We did this last year too, but I can't remember if just having a photocopy of his drivers license was enough. Anybody know?

According to some other threads, you should also have a written note to the effect of "I (so-and-so) give permission to (whats-his-face) to pick up my membership badge."
