A Costumer's Nightmares!

Does anyone have either of the following as a recurring nightmare?!

1.  ONOEZ!  I got to the con and I have no costumes at all!

2.  I forgot where my room is! (cue wandering throughout the hotel and trying to remember... bonus if you really have to pee)

3.  the standard 'naked' dream

I swear to Gods... as DragonCon grinds ever closer, I have been having all of the above dreams more frequently!  Think I'm preoccupied much? :-D

I frequently have dreams of the 1st one whenever it gets close to a con. Last year a few weeks before DragonCon I had a dream (nightmare!) that I was at the con with only half-finished costumes or pieces of costumes. This dream happened several times. I woke up worried and thankful most of my costumes were actually finished.

I have the 'ONOEZ!' dream all the time! -_- Or its "SHIT! My costume isn't done and I have to sew it frantically together in my room!" dream.

Also, Dragon*Con is never at the hotels. Its either at a mall, airport, in the middle of a random area, or if it IS at the hotels, the hotels are all screwy. IE: There's a huge pool on the 30th floor o_O.

You have dreams like that too? I thought it was just me. The places in my dreams never look like the real places. My Dragon*Con dreams are always in weird places, in no city that anyone would recognize.

Me too! My Dragon Con dreams are always in a weird mall with a huge trainstation in the middle and meeting rooms on the top floors. Looks nothing like any of the real hotels.

My Dcon dreams are always at Hotels but they are never the Dcon hotels, they are strange dream hotels that kinda look like Las Vegas

I've had the exact same hotel room for the last two years, and am attempting to get it this year, too. It makes it easier to remember when there's only ever the one room (not to mention it doesn't make me likely to vomit at passersby due to vertigo). So far, the hotel has been pretty cooperative about it, I generally call en route to make sure they're holding it for me.

Oh, but I have had dreams where we show up at a con and we don't have a booth or a hotel room at all. I had one like that a couple months ago, probably because at that point I didn't have confirmation that we did have a table (we do, we're in the Artist's Alley). I'm one of those obsessive types who likes to book everything for the next year before the con's over in the current year, so switching to the Artist's Alley and waiting to book it until January instead of just booking in the Exhibitor's hall was a test of my coping skills.

I used to get the costume dreams (not to mention actually encountering the last minute assembly issue for real!), but I stopped having room for costumes when I started having to haul merchandise. I'm hoping to at least make an accessory this year, though, I miss it terribly.

I had the first one a few months back.. it was odd, since i had some of my costumes but I was so upset because i didn't finish one of them.. so i ran around the day of the con trying to put it together and panicking because it wasn't right and i had to have that costumes and etc.

Amusingly enough, i'm not doing that outfit anymore.

I have the 1st dream all the time and varaiations on it. One of them I had not only forgot my costumes, but all my luggage. All I had was what was on me.

I have also had a dream a few times that the hotels look the same on the outside but are either huge on the inside or are completely different on the inside. One time it even came out that the Hyatt looked like Escher's "Relativity" on the inside.

I had that one a couple months ago! I was dropped off at the hotel, and in my excitement I forgot to grab my luggage out of the car AND my cell phone, so I couldn't even call my ride and beg her to turn around. Nor I could remember her number so I could call her from friend's phone. I stayed outside waiting and waiting, hoping she'd figure it out on her own to no avail. It got dark and I knew I was going to spend the weekend broke with nothing but the clothes on my back (ew). I totally looked up the number the moment I woke up, though!

I thought these stressy dreams weren't supposed to happen until right before con, not months in advance. :-\

I've had this one dream/nightmare on several occasions. Basically it's me forgetting that it's dragon*con time and realizing too late I'm at the wrong place missing my favorite weekend of the year! I've also had weird "mini cons" at odd locales like my college or in a mall. Oh, and one where I checked into the wrong hotel that wasn't anywhere near the con and they won't let me cancel my reservation. Ahhh!

The forgetting one gets me every time though, I wake up anxious that I slept through it or something lol.

I have the one where I'm at Dragon*con, but I have no hotel room and no luggage. I generally also can't find my badge, my cell phone won't work, and then I get on the elevator and it does strange things.

Yeah, my dreams aren't content with a normal level of stress. They have to go all-out insane on me.

I have the 1st one all the time too, sometimes just plain showing up with no costumes, sometimes trying to finish my costumes in the room, sometimes wearing some weird random costume I didn't want to wear... all freaking out during every dream of course!

That is so odd, I just had the first dream last night, for the first time ever. Weird thing is, there was a like...costume rental place at Con, I frantically tried to cobble one together, it was a massive fail.

I have not yet started my costumes, i need to get on that.

I am SO THANKFUL I'm no the only one!! I thought I was just TOO OBSESSED or something.

I always dream that I have no costumes! Sometimes I just mope about the con, disappointed in myself for not finishing. Other times, I drive hopelessly to wig and fabric stores, trying to figure out what I can make in one night, but they never have what I need!! FAILURE! @_@

I also have hotel dreams. I remember where my room is, but I can not get back to it from where I am. Elevators and hallways go in out-of-control directions, and I get more and more lost. That, or the hotel room has somebody else already in it who has trashed the place!!

So much anxiety over such lovely events.

I have dreams 1 and 2 all the time! I either forgot to make costumes or I forgot to pack them and I'm running through the hotels/mall trying to cobble something together.

And lately, I've been having one where I get to DragonCon but I keep forgetting to pick up my badge. And then when I go to get it I can't find Registration or it's in a hotel really far away or some such weirdness.

i have a booth in the dealer hall and this year, earlier than ever, it's
1. i get there and spend the weekend in the hall and by the time i'm done, everyone's gone home. i've missed it all.

2. that i get there and my booth space isn't there. or i don't have anything.

3. the new one this year: that no one's actually WATCHING the damn thing.

4. can't find anyone I know. miss all the fun.

Thank you ALL!! I am so glad I'm not as batshit flobotsky loco in the head as I thought I was!

I seriously can think of nothing other than Dragoncon right now, and we're still months out from it. I can't wait to see what a ball of spazz I will be, say... a week out!

But damn well I won't forget my costumes!

My Dragoncon dreams involve Escher-esque hotels, with escalators connecting floating platforms, and I often have to jump from on level to another. The dreamland dealers room is labyrinthine and is being torn down and put up at the same time. So, ultimately not that different from the actual event.

I have 'transit' dreams, too, where it's hard to get around or I have to climb things somehow. I don't recall one being at a con, yet. Watch; now I'll have that very dream. :-D

I seem to have the "end of con" costuming nightmare. It's always 5 minutes until I have to vacate the hotel room and I'm frantically trying to pack up a truckload of costume baggage, always failing.

Since I Don't costume, I don't have that nightmare. I do have the second nightmare though occassionally. My worst con related nightmare is when someone says you aren't staff or someway I have to fend for myself at a con in a strange city. Basically, The without room, badge or return ticket home nightmare.

I've already started having these this year! My main one is that the con has somehow arrived sooner than I thought, and I'm having to pack quickly, and realizing that there were all these tiny finishing touches or extra things for my costumes that I didn't do, or whole parts that I didn't finish, but I have to pack them and there's no time to do anything else. I've also dreamed about packing everything up and then forgetting the suitcase at home, and realizing it when we get to the airport. (In reality I think we might drive home for this, since the airport is close and my husband and I arrive stupidly early for everything, especially flights, lol.)

Last year was my first D*C, and I did my first screen accurate costume with all these tiny little details and accessories. I had two ziplock bags for all of them, organized and triple checked weeks before the con, I was so worried I'd forget something. Of course it all went swimmingly (one extra flourish piece got tangled in transit, but it was totally fine without it), but I think I'm still holding onto some of that anxiety, hehe.

As far as the naked thing, last year my husband got me a bit drunk and convinced me to leave the hotel room in less than I would wear anywhere besides poolside. And I had a *great* time. So I think that cured me of any naked dreams, lol.

I always have a dream with messed up costumes, I usually bring 12 costumes and I get a dream where is leave the one main box that has all the accessories for all the costumes, or the worse one is where all the costumes have major pieces missing like only the skirt or the top is there when i arrive
Another one I have is of being in such a confusing maze like place that I never get anywhere, and that Thursday get messed up (I really like Thursday at the con) - and as I said above I never have dreams where they are actually at the place but in other stranger dream like hotels

Wow.. I didn't know this was so common.. I've had dream #1 quite a few times, usually related to DragonCon. The last time I had the dream, I dreamt my friends came in form out of town on the weekend of a con - they didn't want to go to the con and the times I actually got to the con, I had no costumes and it sucked and I just missed everything good, and my friends were still pissed at me for going at all.

The time(s) before that it was totally straight up - went to dragoncon, had no costumes, missed everything and I was headed home before I got to do anything. Very stressful, actually..

A variation of one of those I've had repeatedly. Not only did I forget my costume, but all of my luggage AND my money. Oh sure I had my membership ticket and the clothes on my back, but nothing else. I woke up in a panic and had to remind myself that not only was it just a dream, but that even if it happened IRL, I only live four hours away. I could send the husband home to get the stuff or get someone to drive it to me.

The one dream I DO have repeatedly is that I'm at con, drunk and being a goofball so of course I meet someone like Ryan Reynolds or Gerard Butler and embarrass the hell out of myself. JOY!

Oh boy. my dreams...

THe most frequent one is me being at the con but as a few people have already said something is not right because it's not the con we are familiar with, it's a dream con in a place or venue that should be what it is but isn't.

This year I have not been craving because I've been thinking about other things as I'm sure others have but sub contiously a part of me is attatched to the con, enough to screw with my dreams :)

I dream that it's already Sunday and I don't have my badge yet, or that I'm checking out of the hotel and suddenly realize I slept through the whole con. Sometimes, even though I'm an Atlanta native, I dream I am lost downtown, unable to find my way back to the con hotels, wandering into increasingly scary parts of town.

My BF had an interesting variation though. He dreamed he was at a con in costume, but he forgot what costume he was in. So in his dream he was running around asking people, trying to get them to tell him who he was dressed as.
