Laurell K Hamilton is already scheduled for DragonCon 2010. I'm of mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the first few books of the Anita Blake series while on the other hand, the last handful of books in the series really turned me off...and if you ever read the books, you'll understand exactly what kind of irony that is.
I already have one book signed thanks to the efforts of a good friend, and would probably like to have another one signed, but the question would be: Could I keep my mouth shut about using smut to the detriment of the plot? I'm not sure I can since that was what ruined the series for me. I could excuse the Meredith Gentry series because smut actually had a purpose in the plot...until I got to one book that started with smut and wasn't even finished with the first scene when I was half way through the book.
Don't get me wrong. I like smut in my urban fantasy as much as the next geek, but preferably not when it overshadows the plot. There are books specifically for smut's sake. If I wanted that, those are the books I would buy. Needless to say, I stopped buying the Anita Blake and the Meredith Gentry books.
When will Jim Butcher come to con???!!!
