Solo in NC... Please help!!!

Ok, so I have something of an emergency. My friends, who were flying in from Canada to NC to ride to the con AND room with me have bailed, last minute.

I live in Winston-Salem, NC, and am desperately looking for:

1) 1-3 people in the North Carolina area to occupy seats in my car (a very clean Jeep Grand Cherokee with PLENTY of luggage room). Even if you can make it TO Winston-Salem and ride in the rest of the way!! My car is empty so far. Fun, dorky personalities preferred. Bathers also preferred. ;)

2) Hotel room space, even floor space. I'll be happy to chip in, of course. As long as I get a shower every day, I'm cool.

We will be caravaning with another car, as well; that one's full, mine is not. There will be plenty of music, DVDs, and other dorkery for the ride down. Bring yours along to share!!

Hey all...

Sorry to have to do this a few days from the con, but making a slight rule addition.

As the veteran community members in here know(and I should have done a decent job of restating for the new folk), anon comments have been screened in here for the past few years. This is due to problems the community has had with a few anon trolls in the past who for whatever reason tried to start trouble in here. I would usually unscreen any nonproblem anon comments, though I obviously couldnt guarantee finding them all.

Unfortunately tonight one trollish anon comment got thru unscreened somehow (prob my skimming thru the particular thread and unscreening without reading more carefully...no excuse) and caused problems.

Therefore I have turned off anon commenting here in the community. Anyone who wants to post or comment in here must get a LJ account. I'm not happy about doing this especially during the week of the con, but circumstances force measures to be taken.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

So because everyone I know down here is cheap and convinced me NOT to buy a plane ticket so I could carpool up with them and split gas expenses with them and is ALSO completely flaky and suddenly inform me JUST NOW that they can't make it, I find myself 4 days before the convention with NO WAY TO GET THERE. I'm considering the train, but that is a 12 hour ride and only one leaves each day... at 7:00am. And NOW plane tickets are upwards of $600 and I'm not paying that!

So, readers, anyone driving up from New Orleans or Baton Rouge, LA and have room for one, possibly 2, more? I can pay for gas.

Please let me know! I don't want to take a 12 hour train ride!!

Also: I never got a pre-reg confirmation card and have a sinking feeling that I am about to be fucked at the drive-thru if I can't find the form I filled out last year on-site when I pre-registered onsite. I wish they'd just mail the badges out like GenCon does.

You've probably seen her work on myself and several others from last year. Full body designs are a new thing she's been experimenting with, larger bold designs stand out much better than intricate designs (if you are interested in something that big, let us know in advance and we'll be sure to pack enough).

It usually takes about a day or two for the design to fully cure from the nice bright orange brown to the deep brown, so get it early. If you must return to the 'Real World' on Tuesday, upper body, legs, and feet are ideal rather than hands which might freak out conservative office folks :)

EDIT: To answer a question I got, We have a Private room at the Con in the Hyatt. So it won't be floor to Ceiling people. This was very important because we want you to hang out while it dries! Last thing we want is undry henna walking around all the cosumes :D

Also in preparation, don't Scrub/exfoliate heavily in the area you want the henna done. Henna is a skin stain, and needs those layers of skin to soak into. The more layers the darker the design. Palms and soles of feet last about 3 weeks, top of hands/feet about 2 weeks and faces only a few days (yup, we've tried it).

It would seem that our friendly Caribbean hurricane will show up for the con just in time for our Con.

Its gonna make landfall on Tuesday night Wednesday morning in southern Florida, make its way out to "sea" and skirt the coast all the way up to Virginia, hitting Georgia the hardest on Thursday.

Now Atlanta is fortunately in the northeast of Georgia, as far away from the hurricane as it can get and still be in Peach state.

What I'm mostly concerned about is flight delays on Thursday, can anyone familiar with Atlanta and local hurricanes give me an intelligent opinion on possible flight delays and the such?

I am not going to be abel to make it to DC this year I hate to say :<, I am not going to point a finger but because of a person from last year win I was working wanted to be a a** hole and pulled my badge it made it where I could not make it to the cone this year.

But it is all kool, I can live with it I will not blame it on the rest of the CON for what one person did lol.

I hope all of you have a blast and those of age have a drink for me and make merry all the way :>.

Hey all! FOUR MORE DAYS, CAN YOU STAND IT?!!? Ok, ok... Now that THAT is out of the way! :D

I will be staying at the Hyatt all four days for the first time this year and I have a question that I'd rather ask veterans than the staff of the hotel... I was thinking of bringing a cooler in with me to keep beverages (and maybe some snacks) cold with throughout the con. I remember seeing friends have coolers in their rooms in the past, but didn't think to ask if they got a charge on the room or had to sneak it in or what. So I wanted to check with you all to see what's the scoop. I imagine since they know our room doesn't have a fridge and it's going to have multiple people that they would understand we don't want to be spending the entire weekend filling up a tiny little ice bucket. But then again, they are a business and if they can charge for it, they will. My room is in my friend's name so I'd hate to add to the bill on accident. Please advise and I will see you all in a few days! XD

Any clue how long it typically takes to pick up your badges if you're pre-registered?

The earliest we can physically make it there will be 10:30 AM on Friday after driving 15 hours plus and we're hoping that we can get through the line in a reasonable amount of time so that we can take a nap before hitting a few panels. Is that a possibility at all?

CONFIRMED:

There is NO Garden Level Access to the tunnels from the Marriott...you have to go thru the motor lobby round by the fountain into the office tower and go up the escaltors to get to the tunnels to the Food Court...the doors are locked at 2200...dont know Sat/Sun /Holiday hours...

For the last time the big reminder:
Georgia prohibits all retail alcohol sales on Sunday, including beer and wine! Bars and restaurants can serve on Sunday but they must close down at midnight. If you have Sunday booze plans, get your stuff early and plan accordingly.

At least this year, no worries about Atlanta running out of gas.

Again, I'll be working with the Holistic Design crew at their booth in the Exhibitor's Hall. Come by and love them with money...without them, I wouldnt be able to do D*C.
Wont know schedule till my arrival but most likely will be closing shifts(Fri 4-7 is a strong possiiblity). If you dont spot me there, just look out for the big drunken moron in the big tall Guinness hat in the evenings...

I'm sure both hotels have gyms, but where are they and will they be available for our use if we're hotel guests?


(It is, of course, HIGHLY unlikely me or my boyfriend will actually make our way to the gym since we're not THAT committed, but we like lying to ourselves. :P)

And it might be a good way to burn off some excess energy when there's a lull and I'm hyper...

Just thought I would let you know that on the Dragon*Con website, on the right hand side under "Announcements", I have added a revised Walk of Fame chart and the 2006 Schedule Grids in PDF formats.

Please note, the Walk of Fame is still subject to change, and that the grids are pre-changes, so be sure to check the Daily Dragon for the most recent information.

I am also aware of the desire for an XLS version of the Grids, and I promise I will try to get to it tonight.
